- Luton Town have completed a fairy-tale return to the top-flight of English football after beating Coventry City on penalties in the Championship play-off final.
Roared on by 36,000 Town supporters soaked in the late May sun, Rob Edwards’ team showed their nerve at Wembley as they defeated the Sky Blues 6-5 on spot-kicks.
A decade ago the Hatters had just finished their fourth consecutive season in the Conference Premier in seventh, the club’s lowest ever league position.
Fast forward to now - four promotions and one Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu later - the Hatters can look forward to their first ever campaign in the Premier League, a division they voted to create, but never played in after suffering relegation the season before its launch.
A lot of water has flowed under the bridge in those 31 years since - a special mention for a 30-point deduction - but the weight of history was shrugged off by the Hatters.

I have supported the Sky Blues since 1964. Both Luton and Coventry have been through hell in recent years. It's never a nice way to lose a play-off final but that's football. I hope Tom Lockyer is fully recovered. Good luck Luton.

They were among the 22 clubs of the old First Division who signed the Premier League Founder Members Agreement (FMA) and at the time, Luton and another signee Notts County, were mocked as 'turkeys voting for dinner'. Indeed the very last Division One (English top tier) season saw both relegated and missed the first ever Premier League season. Even worse, both eventually fell out from the Football League but Luton has scaled up to the summit of the English football pyramid now while Notts County has returned into the FL. Such an incredible and superb achievement for Luton, so until Notts County achieves the same feat (a founder member of Premier League who dropped down the divisions and out of the League, but then climb up and play in the league they helped in founding), the glory is all Luton's now!

Luton were silent except for their goal and when they won. Kenilworth Road holds about 10,000 so most of their "fans" at Wembley were day trippers, prawn sandwich bridge types. Half of their fans weren't even in Luton shirts

I am an American who has never watched Football until both Ted Lasso and Welcome To Wrexham. I am a huge Wrexham fan and Football in just two years is my second favorite sport. Since they show Premier League games on TV over here in the states, I am going to adopt Luton Town as my Premier League team. My absolute FAVORITE thing in sports is an underdog story, and this team is that, and they have captured my attention. I wish I could go to a game at your stadium, I watched a video titled the worst stadium in Football and I have to say it looks AWESOME, the environment is better than anything I have ever seen here. Sadly I am a disabled vet so I don't think I will ever get to see this team play is such a special place.

I really like Luton Town and have followed them for about 5 years now. I am extremely happy about their qualification to the Premier League. It's definitely a great moment.
But at the same time I am sad for Coventry, who also have a great history. I remember them in the 1st English championship I followed in 75/76 and many others seasons after that. They have a lot of tradition. I hope that next year they will achieve their goal.

Luton fans had a dead atmosphere, except for their goal and winning, all the noise came from the Cov end. It's not surprising really, their ground only holds 10,000 people so about 2/3rds of their "fans" at Wembley are just day trippers. Half of their fans weren't even repping their shirts or colours

What a journey! From non-league football to now the highest tier in English football. Only something you would see in a movie. Although it looks like you guys might be getting relegated from the Premier League, I still believe in you guys and hope you don't get relegated. I believe that Luton Town can start getting to a higher level. I believe Luton Town could work up the ranks from non-European football to conference league football to Europa league football to Champions league football and maybe even win some domestic cups along the way! I hope that in the future, we can say that Luton Town was a team that started in non-league football to Champions League winners making them the best club in the world. Considering how easy it is to predict the teams aiming at competing for the top of the table in leagues like La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 etc., lower divisions sure keep the interest for football fans since the teams who win it get promoted so they cant really make them a farmer league.

This match has so much of what has been lost in modern football. Got the love the passion.
Love and passion is a stretch. Luton' s ground only holds 10,000 so 2/3rds of their "fans" at Wembley are day trippers. You could tell by the fact that about half of them didn't even wear any Luton shirts or gear and because you didn't hear a peep out of them all game except for their goal and when they won. All the noise came from the Cov end.
