My father bought his Alfasud even before I was born in 1979, and sold it completely in running condition in the 90s. The car was amazing, he would use it for traveling to work 900km every weekend to come back home to us, his job was 5 hours of driving away crossing a mountain path and then highway. The beautiful Alfa was a rock, incredibly reliable, never left my dad on the road. Amazing memories.

The Alfasud is extremely rare because they fell to bits if a raindrop fell on them, very fast for their time. The Avenger and Toyota estates are also very rare. Nice to see a fellow Capri fan appreciating the best looking coupe ever made.🙂

Its funny what we thought of as fast back in the 80s
Actually same goes for the 90s before the EVO cars.
What made them great was the handling. A lot better than my XR3i was.

Hi Chris & Rob, another great video and I’m very much a 1970s escort and Capri man as me and the wife had several during our courting and early married years before the kids came along…However I also want to say that recently, I’ve had the most fun watching you rebuild all the recent model cars that may only be a few years old, but come out looking almost brand new again and I know they will all end up going to very proud new owners, truly “salvage” rebuilds, and one of the very best ways to recycle what would have ended up as a cube of steel somewhere in China! Rock on lads you are magicians! Best regards from an old Thanet boy 😊

Being born in 1966 the 80's were really my formative years. The angular lines of those Escorts play havoc with me. LOL. They look just right, don't they. Same with Audi Quattro and the 1.9 Peugeot Gti. and those Alpha Sud's sold here in Australia in the 80s. Not in massive numbers but enough to be seen on the roads, they had a good write up in Wheels Magazine. Went rusty rather quickly though. The El Camino was probably a 283ci. I enjoyed you little walk around. Thanks you.

My mate did exactly the same. He had a series 2 R.S Turbo and he had to sell it for a deposit on his first house. Said he was gutted when he sold it and had to go down spec to older 1.6 G.L Escort as he couldn’t afford the mortgage and Insurance on his R.S Turbo. Mind you even his 1.6 G.L carb fed think it was the pinto engine? That shifted for what it was. It had a really nice interior as well like blue valour to go with the dark metallic Blue paint job, think it’s had electric windows in the front and wind back sunroof, rear head rests it was a nice spec Escort. But after you’ve had the cream of the Escort line like a R.S Turbo I suppose nothing comes close.

Same here. I remember my dad used to do everything to his own Fords on the drive years ago when I was a kid. He’d do everything himself brake pads and drums, oil changes, exhaust changes the lot. He’s 70 now and although in good health he said he wouldn’t dare work on a modern car, especially his 4x4 Nissan, that’s straight done the dealers if he needs anything done. You’ve got to have a laptop half the time now to diagnose any problems. Crazy how technical cars are now.

Just looked at car and classic 1557 Morris isis for sale £15,750.Reminds me of my travels in India where they were still making the 50s Morris and calling them ambassadors the torsion bar suspension seemed to handle the Indian roads realy well!
Nice video guys thanks for sharing your day out.

    Really enjoyable video.
I remember most of the cars on the roads back in the day and it's interesting to note just how many favourable comments the Alfasud drew despite the rust problems it had.
Car for me would be the Citroen DS. I had a Xantia for 14 years and it had the same hydropneumatic suspension system that the DS had. People are so scared of it but it's so simple to work on once you take the time to try to understand how it works.
Thanks for making the video and for taking the time to upload.
