Let me know if these tips are helpful, and if you want me to do a cinematic Color Grading deepdive, for F-log. Also if any tip is not clear, just feel free to reach out, I'm happy to help
Thank you for demonstrating different options for output color space and gamma. When it comes to grading F-Log, too many other people try to sell their LUTS in lieu of demonstrating CST methods.
This is without a doubt the best Fuji F-Log color correct tutorial on the whole of YT (and I've seen them all) Up until finding yours nothing worked, these tips work amazingly! Awesome awesome!
Nothing wrong with cheesy intros! This was nice.. appreciate the way you speak to the audience, and found this pretty useful. I'm subbing for more - just breaking into Fuji from Lumix.
I hope I didn't miss it after watching a taking notes - but how / why choose the Gamma 2.4 output - what does it do? I took some test footage right after watching this and it worked great and looks really good. THanks so much!
I am glad the test footage worked well for you! Most displays today are set up for 2.2 or 2.4. generally for darker scenes 2.4 is what works best. Gamma just adjusts the overall “brightness”. You can also try 2.2, its not set in stone. I tend to stick to 2.4 in case some people watch it on big screen/ dark room:)
Hello I'm french. I really appreciated your concise way of presenting the color space transform. On the other hand, I also film with a fuji X-T5, and I would like to shoot in F-Log2 but I can't find it in the color space transform list. How to do ? Good for you sorry for my english !
I unfortunately have no access to an x-t5, i have not upgraded myself. As far as i am aware only f-log is in the list, maybe in the future f-log2 will be added by blackmagic. I believe it is also in the rec2020 space but maybe they have some data on the fuji website.
If you recorded CC in camera, and not in log i would not use anything. Its already a rec709 image. If you are planning to add CC profile in Davinci and recorded in F-log, using the CC lut will be sufficient as it also moves the footage into rec709
Nice...actually if you go the Color managed way, you can disable it in individual clips by right clicking the clip in the color page and ticking Bypass color management...what I'm currently struggling now is to correctly export to HDR, grading in a XDR Apple monitor...lot´s of banding in blue skies...
HDR grading in general is something I never fiddled with, but to be honest, as more and more HDR devices are popping up, you are right we may want to start getting our workflow hammered out ahead of the curve:)
The output is what you deliver for, that means if you would choose f-log you would keep it in log. Ultimately if you deliver for youtube/broadcast you always want to be in rec709 and gamma 2.4. If you wanted to add one of the provided davinci film luts i would go Cineon . And add the kodak / etc lut on a node after! Any other case i would go gamma2.4
I1ll be honest I tried HLG maybe once, but it never got my interest.. for some reason I feel like log is what gives me the best results in any camera. But you made me curios so I'll give it a go and see. :)
@@RCWolfFPV Thanks for your answer! I'm shooting in HLG since few months ... There's no official Fuji-LUT to convert HLG into R709 ... (I tried Leemings Luts, but to my eye it seems to work better when I use Color Space Trans) I wonder what's the best Color Space Transform combination for you guys ... I Personally got a decent results using this formula : Input Color Space: Rec. 2020 Input Gamma : DaVinci intermediate Output Color Space : Rec.709 Output Gamma : Gamma 2.4 ( Bit punchy result though...it's ok for a fast delivery, but It looks a bit too punchy for being used as a starting point conversion ) What I still don't get is why there's nothing mentioning "FUJI-HLG" as a format to select as Input Gamma on the Color Space Transform panel ...? Why FUJI doesn't even provide an official LUT? What's the "Correct formula" to convert FUJI-HLG ??? Anyone has ideas? _Peace&Love from Berlin everyone_
It depends, if you can get the exposure and the WB correct and you are not planning to do crazy colorgrades, f-log is still beneficial I think. Otherwise, probably I would go with Aeterna profile.
Hey there! great tutorial. I have a question regarding fuji f log: do you just apply the lut without any other conversion? if so, how much do you lower its key output? i find its too hard on the material if i just apply the lut over that. Been trying converting to cineon first, and then applying kodak film look, but i keep getting a saturated color breaking some highlights. I'd appreciate any comments tyvm
Is it a 10 bit F-log? With the cineon film looks things can get tricky. I would add a node prior the conversion lut and pull back saturation to 35 ( 50 is default) and tame the highlights before conversion
@@RCWolfFPV i think its a 8 bit log, since its recorded in h264 internal sd card. I'll try that, thank you man. Great to see some fuji content and research!
@@xzyyt2875 yes 8-bit f-log will have sone limitations with luts. Try to expose to -1 so you can save the highlights, if the highlights are important. You will have to balance a little so you dont loose the shadows.

TImestamps added for easy scrubbing!

hello, very useful tutorial! i also use flog with my xt3, i love fuji video files.
Finally, something that worked for me.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video and that intro was great.
Thanks!

thank you
This is very helpful, would love to see a more in depth color grading video in Davinci Resolve for F-Log
Thanks, glad it was helpful! I am already working on a few vids for grading so stay tuned:)

Great video! And what CST settings should be used when using Fuji film simulations, for example, classic chrome?

Great Video.. Question: Can you recommend a budget friendly monitor for color correction work?
THank you in advance
Honestly i bought a 34” 4k lg monitor, all i checked was that its not reflective and can be color calibrated
it definitely helped me out. Liked and subscribed! Quick question: why do you use gamma 2.4 on the output instead of FujiFilm Log?

It is good idea to work on flog if I have only 8bit in my camera?
(I dont have external recorder for 10bit)

This was great. Thanks. One question. What is your screen set up for the color page? I can't get mine to look that way.
I think i have it on default, which part looks different for you?
