Releasing tension from horse's pectoral muscles

- The pectoral muscles lie on the front of the chest and attach to the sternum at one end and inside the front legs at the other. These muscles, along with other locomotive muscles that attach the scapula and forelimbs to the trunk, are part of a network of muscles that comprise the thoracic sling which supports the trunk between the forelegs.
The pectoral muscle tissue is delicate and the knots you can feel with your fingers will be squishy but tender to the horse. The Pectoral Points Technique can help release tension and soften those knots. We start by searching at the point of the sternum between the two pectoral muscles. Here's how you can do this technique using the Search Response Stay Release (SRSR) principle:
1. Place your hand on the point of the sternum. You will feel the sternum in the visible groove that runs vertically down
the chest of the horse.
2. Search down on the side of the pectorals nearest you as you watch for the blinks SRSR.
3. Use Air Gap, Egg Yolk or barely touching. Watch for the blink while searching for tender areas as you follow the
muscle down the inside of the front leg where the leg attaches to the thorax and right behind the elbow.
4. Stop where the horse blinks and move the skin lightly toward the side as if you want to bring it away from the center line.
