Whenever the Rose bowl isn't in the playoffs the first two left out should always play in the rose unless they're in the same conference. So it should be Georgia vs Ohio State but Ohio State gets another easy bowl win and Georgia will destroy Texas smh. They gotta start matching up the NY6 bowls better

Super Butterfree I’m fine with a group 5 team never getting a shot. They should have their own league anyhow. They never did before yet college football has always been awesome. Frankly, adding the four game playoff has not make it better in my opinion. I prefer the traditional. Owl setup and also having fewer bowls. College football is much bigger than just determining the #1 team. For example, traditional rivalries are a huge deal for me.

Dude they just pulled up Ohio’s state resume and said we were 3-0 against ranked teams this year last time I check Michigan M state TCU and Nortwestern and penn state were all ranked and if my math is correct that is 5 not 3
Dude they count where they were ranked at the end of the season.....but its still better than Oklahoma or ND. Think of it in reverse, according to your logic if you beat an unranked team in week 1, you wouldn't get credit if that team ended up being ranked in top 25 by the end of the season; they weren't ranked when you played them..

Think if anything this year shows that they need to expand the playoffs. You got a non-conference team in ND in the top 4. It shows that the conference championships are not really worth it to the committee. Chop off the CC and make that a playoff round 1.
The Conference Championship games should count for nothing outside of the Conferences. That game should have no bearing on which teams make it into the playoffs. The cutoff should be 12 games and whoever is in the top 4 after 12 games is in the playoffs.

Kevin Danner, Washington already had a rather bad loss, their defense has weaknesses that can be exploited, Ohio State has the offense that actual presents some of those issues that can exploit the few weaknesses they have.

Urban is diplomatic. The committee is in the pocket of the SEC. the semifinal matchups of two touchdown underdogs OU and ND show what a bad process this is. Putting 2-loss never beat anybody LSU and and UGA ahead of one loss conference champion OSU shows the committee’s SEC bias. Similar arguments can be made for the ranking of WSU.
Ya this is pretty much spot on. There is no way the committee honestly can tell the public they put who they thought were the 4 best teams in. The reason why is very simple. The first 2 games are double digit underdogs. So obviously there is some other motivation than having the best teams in the college playoff. God forbid the fans get that. It's not enough that corruption lives in every business and bank everywhere in the united states but now also apparently inside college football. Great!!

ESPN pushed for limiting the influence of computer polls in determining the top two teams during the BCS era thus allowing them to influence the human polls. The result was a brilliant strategy to create the myth of SEC dominance during the BCS era Who knows how many #3 or #4 ranked teams could have knocked off all those SEC champs....never got the chance.

And ESPN was the one who lobbied during negotiations of how to run a 4 team playoff when they decided to switch from the BCS process, to eliminate computer polls from the decision making process....why?....because they can't influence computer polls. Listen, it was an outside shot for us to make the CFP anyway, going into the BIG 10 Championship game. We knew that when the committee had Oklahoma ahead of us last week. Does it suck, sure. Is it fair, I don't know, but it is time to move on.
This committee was anti-Buckeye the entire year, it's not new to us. There was NO WAY they were going to allow them in based on the overall circumstances of the year. I just don't believe they had a 2-loss Georgia ahead of them after the Conference Championship "they" put so much weight on. Blows my mind a loss in the last game of the year for a team with 2 losses stays ahead of a 1 loss Conference Champion with 5 Top 25 wins??

Yet they lost to Purdue nearly lost to Maryland and nearly lost to Nebraska. Notre Dame might not win flashy games but theor deffense hasn't given up nearly as many points as ohio states.

@@bsavage3651 I am not a Ohio State or Michigan fan, I'm a MSU fan, but I do agree with a lot of your points, except the one about MSU. Our offense was putrid all season, so that is not an accomplishment to hold them without a TD, really. We kept declining, to where we almost lost to Rutgers. Just sayin' from an MSU standpoint. OSU's victory over U M was awesome. They really showed the potential. Many fans forget the player OSU lost early this year. And they still played well. The defense needed to be better, maybe to avoid the games they struggled like Purdue and Maryland, but I wish they were in the top 4 too. They have more potential to challenge than ND or even Oklahoma. I like Urban Meyer a lot. There are too many haters in MI for him. He knows how to coach, and knows how to handle players. He just is dealing with health issues, and I'm glad he is retiring on top of the Big Ten. Wish he could stay in the game. We may see him on ESPN

First year of the playoffs showed how much the ESPN proclaimed SEC dominance of the BSC era was a myth, when #4 OSU, who would never have made it to a BCS championship game in the former setup (#1 vs #2), "Rolled" the #1 Tide and manhandled the #2 Ducks, the team that everyone said was unstoppable. Pretty ironic how since then, ESPN openly lobbies to keep OSU out! And how convenient that when ESPN found out about an alternative plan of a 4 team playoff with an all human committee "choosing" who were going to be the participants, they insisted on a longer 10 year contract, allowing them a much longer time frame to further manipulate the myth about SEC dominance .....now thats organized crime!

SEC always gets over ranked, no way Georgia is 5. Big 10 is stronger than the SEC, but they always get a lower ranking from committee. Who has Clemson played? Why not 5 vs 6? Why? Chardon Lacrosse Correct. D1 college football is fantastic. This is why stadiums across the USA pack in 80k to 100k on a Saturday for a basics conference game. It’s different and special. It’s about so much more than just determining #1. That’s part of it, but only part. Think of Army/Navy tradition and what that means to the people involved. Think big rivalry games. On and on. So yes all other forms have it wrong.

Your original post is full of contradictions to what you stated in your reply to my post! Under your scenario I would think that you then prefer the old bowl system where there were no playoffs only mythical National Champions, but that's not the position you took in your original post! How does an 8 team playoff take away from anything that you describe that is great about college football? The pageantry of 12 Saturdays remains the same as always, as do all the rivalries. Picture an 8 team playoff with the five Power 5 conference champs getting in with 3 at-large spots. Those at large spots go to the highest ranked conference championship game LOSERS(retaining importance of winning your division), UNLESS a Group of 5 team(s) are ranked in top 10, then they get one or more of the at-large spots, as does ND if ranked in top 4(they really need to get into a conference to play a 13th game against a quality opponent). So as an example this year; Alabama*, Clemson*, ND**, Oklahoma*, OSU*, UCF**, Washington*, Georgia*** (in that order). With top 4 hosting 5 - 8 the weekend before or 2 weeks before Christmas, 4 remaining winners back to same bowl style semi final schedule that we currently have!!
Chardon Yes, in fact I do very much prefer the old bowl system (with fewer bowls). It's not mythical, it was just using a different system of measurement. You could criticize the method, calling it many things, but "mythical" is incorrect terminology.
I loved that pac10 played big10 in the Rose every year. Such a great tradition! Very special and getting to the Rose for any team in either of those conferences was a damn big deal, someting that mid-level teams could realistically strive for and achieve every so often. Same for the other big bowls. Now it's being diluted. Now it's trending to one winner and everyone else is a loser. It was obviously working very well as college football has been and continues to be very popular, even "regular season" game.
The end-of-year "championship" is not the most important thing in college football for me. This isn't the NFL. We already have the NFL.

When i referred to mythical National Championships I was referring to pre-BCS days, where if # 1 Oklahoma beat #7 Alabama by 2 and #2 michigan beat # 10 UCLA by 15, The AP Crowned Oklahoma, the UPI crowned Michigan, and yes it was always mythical because very rarely did #1 and #2 ever face each other on the field, .... you must also like the idea of participation trophies, no losers, everyone's a winner......... but hey we agree to disagree.
