Thank you Thank you
Correct, except the second line says "The autumn leaves of red and gold" So many, many people confuse/flip "autumn" and "falling" in these first two lines. But one easy way to keep "the falling leaves" in mind when you sing it is that "falling" is sung against a rising line. This contradiction opens the song and sets the stage for the wistful emotion of the lyric. It's part of the brilliance of Johnny Mercer's writing. Check out Mercer's lyrics for Moon River and Days of Wine And Roses. These are also simple melodies with perfect (if that is possible) lyrics.
Rob from RealChords Pro iPad app here. As to what to play over Autumn leaves: This is a special song as in contains all the chords of an Em Chord scale: Em, Fm7b5, G7, Am, B(7), C, Dm. These modes are, in order, Aolian, Locrian, Mixo', Dorian, etc. The point is to let the modes follow you. Play ONLY in Em (G Major) AND THE MODES WILL FOLLOW YOU THRU THE SONG. This is the first step in soloing. Understanding the tonal centres is critical. That when the modes follow you in the master Key. Once you have mastered this you can add other tones from the chords. The lesson: begin soloing over Autumn Leaves in Em with just the Em scale/ same as the notes of the G Major Scale. But remember: more complex is not necessarily better. Try to play what you sing in your mind using these notes and you will have a ball and sons better that someone who is playing patterns.
First slow jazz track I used for jam.. amazing
For the people who like their jazz a bit faster, speed up the video to 1.25 or 1.5. This gives you a more lively jazz feel in the track. 8)
Brendan Johnson This song isn’t supposed to be lively, it’s supposed to be slow and time-consuming
thanks for this! New and late to the party i did not realize that could be done :-/
It is performed at many different tempos. Play or sing it as you feel, but be in control.
Thanks a bunch! I was terribly confused by all the really fast versions and this really helped me get a grip
The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold
I see your lips the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
What is up with all the br?

I prefer this slower version to the faster backing tracks readily available. Great Post much appreciated
exactly
I have learned this over the years. I constantly see new/novice students preforming inadequately at fast tempos, and frowning at those who practice technique at a slower tempo. Those faster students are less soulful or lively compared to my students who practice at slower tempos when we fluctuate tempo during practice

Great arrangement and I love the speed. Thanks a lot!! I just did a performance on sax with your Summertime backing today! Just the right number of repeats (3)! I played it in a Rest Home in case you are thinking I am making money from the goodness of your heart! Love all your arrangements.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Me gusta esta muy bueno
Excellent job!!!!!!🎹🎼🥁🎷🎺🎸
Thanks. Great track and perfect speed
Thanks for all the backing tracks!
Awesome bass!
This is so great! Thank you for the intelligent tempo and the bass is awesome to practice with!
This is great, thank you
It's kind of a dated sound and I like it and the beats just exactly right for my skill-set. Great
you're a dated sound...
Sick bass!
Muito bom, está me ajudando muito nos estudos ❤
Thanks for this video Bro!I just learned something new, Good job!!!
That F# minor seven flat five at the end is usually played as a c major to resolve that chromatic chord movement before
+jakemf1 the F#m7b5 is played exactly as an arpeggio. It does have a C sound because it is an Amin triad. If you mean a C major triad, than it still in G, and you could thinkg C Lydian, but that would be WRONG

Play the lick over it in every transposition
Thiiiiiiis is awesome. Thanks :)
Just a heads up - sounds like the piano on the backing track is hitting B7b9 (or substituting Adim7, depending on your schoolin') pretty hard instead of that B7b13. If you're trying hard to stick it to the G implied in the B7b13 and it's sounding off, that may be why.
Nice thank you!
AMAZING
Do you have the piano sheet for this example. This would be brilliant! Thank youu for this backing track!
thank you

Awesome backing track! Who plays bass here?
am i wrong to feel relieved when these things show up in the lame ass real book key that i already know?
Thanks
I’m trying to learn how to read these-how do you know when to got to next section or repeat? What are double lines?
What is a good source to learn these types of charts?
👍👍👍
It would be nice to know the substitutions played as well though :) Can you provide them in a comment? (if possible)
joyful joyful hymnal
Can anyone refer an instumental version, thats played at this tempo? There is one by Nat Kung Cole that has about this tempo but a sung version is a bit irritating to me. A Saxophoneversion would be perfect.
someone can explain me how to play the Em6 chord in guitar? i really can't get the sound... that chord is with C natural or C#??
Em6 has a C#.
Hi I really enjoy playing to this but would it be possible to upload a version like this one but without the piano please? thanks you
Have you tried these?

The tempo is slightly faster but there's no piano...
As soon as I have the time I'll produce a few new tracks and I'll include another "Autumn Leaves" with bass and drums only.
There you go, enjoy!

Can somebody tell me what scales I should use to improvise over this? I'm really confused about how to know when to use which scale :/
You don't _necessarily_ have to think in terms of what "scale" to use. It's in G, so you can use all the notes in that key (i.e., the G major scale). But to follow the changes, want to focus on the _chord tones_ (i.e., notes that are in each chord). And there are lots of ways to go outside the scale - you want a little dissonance before you resolve a phrase, or else there won't be any colour in your solo!
Judging from the amp in your pic I'm guessing you're a guitar player - try this website for info on jazz improv (scroll down for beginner lessons if you've never done jazz improv!): www.jazzguitar.be/jazz_guitar_lessons.html
+Brigham Just a quick Add to this: in therms of phrasing you think chord tones. In terms of harmony, think G 6th diminished scale (which is a G major scale with the D# in it). Hence why it pops up a couple of times within the chord tone frame. :P
isn't the B7b13 the same as a b7aug5? great video !
When I will can to know what to play upon a diminished?
Diminished scale or arpeggios
Hello. I'm justing starting to play jazz guitar and I'm really confused about the structure of standards. I understand how on autumn leaves you repeat the a section then do b then c but what goes after? Could someone please explain.
Hi. The structure is AABC and then it goes to the first A and repeats itself.
@@Livsie Thank you. That's what I thought it was but I wasn't sure. Thanks
what are the chords with triangles ? G(triangle)7
Kristijan Medved It's a major seventh (as opposed to a dominant), so G B D Fsharp
Nick Lawrence so i write it Gmaj7 for example, maj instead of a triangle ?
Kristijan Medved
The triangle is a jazz notation. It's expected you know it when you read charts with people.
Nick Lawrence So if there is a "7" shown in the chord it is automatically dominant unless there is a triangle? Like whee it Shows B7b13? How about if there is that little circle with the slash through it? Is that a diminished? And finally are there any other symbols?
1) Yes
2) The circle by itself is fully diminished. The circle with a slash through it is half-diminished.

Can I use this to play along for a video?
It's Band in a box? can I download the mgu file?
I know this is in G Major, but it says the key is E minor. I'm very new. Is there some correlation between Gmaj and Em or is it just a typo?
+Ken Blaznek (Quatzu) Actually G and Em are relatives, as Am and C , it means that they have a minor-major sound using the same notes but taking one, or the other as a root note
Could anyone tell me please what does that percentage sign means
Repeat the previous measure
do you have this in Gm?? I've been looking all over for a slow backing track for autumn leaves in G minor
heartsforanne I have this is G minor, but it isn't particularly slow... ruclips.net/video/qx-HCblpkN0/видео.html I'll put in on the list for the next videos.
entrada no segundo 2 (1 e 2, 1 e vai)..
Dm7 maybe?
im having a harder time soloing over the slow version lol

is this from IReal pro?
was the bass part played on a 5string bass?
Sounds like an upright to me!
good job, what does G(delta)7 mean please?
That's G Major7
G B D F#
The 7th note is Half note down from 8th(1, octave key) note
Using a triangle for major (rather than a capital M) is common in fake books because it's easier to read and less easy to confuse with lowercase m for minor. When using the triangle for major, you'll usually see a minus sign used for minor, but for some reason iRealB (the app the pictured chart came from) uses a lowercase m.
what does the triangle mean?
I believe it is a major 7
Sirens?
If I add my own lyrics to this and make a video of the song can I post it on youtube ? Or is there a copyright on the backing track that won't allow me to post it ?
I sang along to it and came up with a cool sounding song
Do you have tabs for the bass part?
+VincentK13 use ur ears
+VincentK13 You work with Gp6? If you want, we can try to make the tab for the bass, cuz I can't find the tab too.
+Otto Ignacio Spreng yes I do! that would be great
what’s the key?
G major
