I hope this is same for Chevy Sonic 2013. Very Informative. And that fan can come on by itself if cold or not, never touch or try to spin it. I seen it happen. Even with key off.
I put power to mine on each setting by pulling top tab off resistor without pulling fan; I'm getting all three speeds with direct power from battery, all relays and fuses test good. The AC and all coolant sensors are new, I'm stumped, ready to buy a switch and run it direct.
most of the videos you did are helpful by the way i got a question, is the radiator fan had 3 speeds? (low, med and high speed?) or it's just low and high speed?

I change the fan to a new fan and still won’t come on , checked the fuses box and all fuses are good . Still fan won’t turn on . Where can I find the problem ?
@@bishop_98 I ordered a whole new cooling fan I'm thinking its the resistor bc I read somewhere the car won't allow High to stay on long before switching to medium or low. I'm thinking low and medium is burnout on the resistor which is causing the fan to only stay on for a few seconds. Check back in a week or so when I get it installed and ill let you know if that what it was or not.
@@CalebEckenrode do You fix the problem? Mine stop working some times when it's to hot (like un raffic jam or in a hill) i have to turn off the car for 10 minutes and it's Start working.
the fan on my cruze only turns on when its at 230 or past. im trying to figure out the issue because ive changed the heater hoses, thermostat, water pump. now its spitting out coolant on the air filter side. If im driving at high speed its fine once im stopped it overheats any ideas?
Greetings. I have a strange problem on a 2012 Chev Sonic 1.6. The cooling fan DOES NOT work automatically as it should, as well as A/C. If I unplug the coolant temperature sensor on thermostat housing when engine is hot the fan will come on, but will not switch off when I plug the temperature sensor back. The ignition must be switched off and key removed. Also the AC does not work, but the yellow A/C indicator comes on. Both fan relays tested OK, if you simulate the relays kicking in the fan works. Every single fuse checked. It seems the relays are not getting the power to switch on. Any ideas?

I have a question,, I have a 2015 cruze and the cooling fan itself kicks in and out as needed but when you turn on the AC the fan will not run constantly,,, sometimes not at all and when the cooling fan isnt running the AC doesnt work, as long as the cooling fan is running the AC works but when the fan stops the cooling stops,,,should the colloing fan not run constantly if the AC is on,,mine doesnt
well what happened is my wife was hit by a deer which done a bunch of front end damage and the problem began when they took the front end off the car at the body shop, which also gave a major head ache with the air conditioner not working right, Im a 45 year mechanic and I couldnt fix it either, after finding out they used parts from a junk yard I through a fit and had the whole thing redone using new parts,, they were covered by insurance anyway which told me they were trying to screw the customer and make more money,,,so out of all the new parts the fan problem was fixed so I dont have a answer for you,,wish I did. @@timsshed7843

Am encountering the same problem on Chvy Cruze 1.8 the temperature can rise to 212 to 227 degree but de fan will not work but if I disconnect the temperature sensor wire u will see de fan starting running with high speed,I changed de temperature sensor still de fan is working while the engine has reached exactly temperature instead de fan should come it won’t come,
@@amytuley8161 bro i got my timing belt changed nd now when i accelerate my car shut down. Mechanic is nt taking responsibility. One mechanic is saying it's fuel injector issue. Car is nt starting properly. It's unusable now. I think my last mechanic too did some shit to fuel injector or he just used cheap repaired part in timing belt. Now i hv no idea should i scrap my cruze or what. It's getting unrepairable.
Hi Guys, Great Video Info. Question - If that resistor goes bad could it make the fan go into super high speed ? I ask been having lots of trouble with my 2015 Cruze, I noticed even without running the car for a few minutes when I shut the car off the fan will kick on, then to shut it off I insert the key again and click to the on position. then the fan will shut off. Also I tested my MAF I disconnected it while the engine was running and the fan went into super high speed mode. I have some electric short or something going on, it seems to also be effecting the fuel injectors.
The problem is when the resistor burns out the plug also burns out 🤦 I'm in AU and can only buy a new resistor from China 🤦 or used parts from a wreckers 🤷

Did you have to add transmission fluid after you changed it? I notice a bit of transmission fluid can leak when they unplug the radiator cables

Is the resistor replaceable or you need to buy the whole fan assembly?
You can buy new resistor from China 🙄 can replace that part without pulling the whole fan shroud.

Did you try a thermostat? I was just informed that if your thermostat is not working the fan will not kick on.
I had a p00 code back in the day on my Sonic and changing the thermostat housing with water out did the trick in thay situation.

Don't leave those 28ga alligator clips on too long. Pretty sure they aren't rated for 20-40 amp draw! :)
Can i ask one thing. Which one is radiator fan and which one is cooling fan?
I believe it is two names for the same thing. At the very least it is in the sonic.

So why do the 40 AMP fuse keep blowing?
I have checked all my fuse's temperature goes half way on the dash still don't see the fan coming on
