A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away a guitar teacher taught me to always tune up. He said that when you tune down the string will tend lose lose more tension as it relaxes. Tuning up doesn't have that condition since you are putting more tension on the string and it's not relaxing. That's how he explained to a 15 year old kid :)
As for the waiting for the string to settle I never knew that! That might explain why I feel like I chase it sometimes. I always go through a second time after tuning, because sometimes you might throw one off a few cents, and I'm a perfectionist :P. It always seems the heavier gauge strings I have to tune a second time, and sometimes even a third time, before it "settles". I think I've been chasing it this whole time! Wow, awesome information thank you!
I'm really liking the Donner line. They are small and handsome looking in the rack with all the vibrant colors. I'm planning on picking up a few and I think the Guitar Tuner might be one. I have the Triple Loop on order and am excited about that once it gets here :)
