I sat in for a couple of songs at a Gorillaz gig using the Richie Kotzen sans amp fly rig. Just pulled it out of my I side jacket pocket and away I went. It’s more expensive than this thingy but a lot more useful I think…has distortion/fuzz, tap tempo, reverb, delay and boost/comp--s’cool!
Btw.. they are all analogue and do a Brit and American style one too..you can choose to use the inbuilt sans amp or bypass it and go into a proper amp..
They do indeed… I’ve just picked up a M-Vave Tank G for exactly this reason. Will it ever be my primary rig? Nope… but it might just save my bacon on a gig someday
I probably would have absolutely loved this at 17. That was essentially my pedal chain: distortion, phaser, and delay. Now: I’m pretty sure I’d find it limited. But: I can see the utility if you are doing a quick pickup gig or jam, and don’t want to carry a huge rig, but want a couple of options.
Oh man, I’d love if you checked out the Tech 21 FlyRig V2. I picked one up as a backup to my board and I was surprised by the tones. I think you’d really dig it.
Nice little unit with great sound. My ideal configuration on one of these would be reverb, vibrato & distortion. Personally I need a steady source of reverb at all times. Delay would be my 4th option.
A similarly tiny, also budget friendly pedal that does much more is the Valeton Dapper Amp Mini. Tuner, three different amp channels, modulation section, tap delay, reverb. 😉
I have a Valeton Dapper MDR - modulation, delay and reverb with multiple types of each and it sounds much better than it has a right to. Whenever I plug it in it always sounds better than I remember.
Not bad. I prefer my NUX Cerberus to this for a backup. Two different drive pedals that sound quite good, tons of great sounding modulation options, delay and reverb (also quite good) and multiple user presets.
I've had a Veleton mini pedal like this for a couple of years. Mine has no dirt, it's only modulation (3 selections with 3 variants each, all the usual types), delay (3 types) and reverb (3 types). It sounds great, and I don't really have much to complain about. I think the one John tested sounds good, those just aren't the 3 effects I'd choose. I purposely got one without dirt, partly because I felt that would probably be a pedal's weak point.
Ideal back up and okay price , not for me though , would have Chorus (first in chain , its how I use my live rig) then Overdrive ( hot TS type , not distortion ) then simple Delay ( reverb from amp ) I'm all set . If addition pedal , a boost for solos / drummer getting louder 😄
It does ... but not in the Wedding / Party / Club / Pub covers band world . Yes , if you play blues / metal pretty much one or two sounds, by turning down guitar volume, is all you need , or just get Boss Katana , then it is guitar plugged into amp all fx on amp . Its great either way 😃👍
@@LysanderLH , for me , as I play in 3 piece power pop / upbeat party / dance tune band , I play rhythm chords and lead , I have a TC Corona Chorus into Walrus audio Drive into TS mini , then a Zoom CDR in amp fx loop ( it has tuner so can use it this way too ) . So , one modulation , two overdrives and small multi fx for very little delay / reverb tuner duties. All pedals are velcroed to top of amp/speaker cab , no pedals on floor, no room in most small venues. I have probably 4 different tones , clean , cleanish chorus , overdriven light chorus and more overdriven chorus , so setting pedals is easy . The chorus helps fill the sound holes playing rhythm . Luckily the TC chorus has a level knob so can bring it right back if needed , hope this is helpful 👍
I have a board full of pedals, and while they're fun to use here and there, one Telecaster straight into a two-channel amp, with spring reverb is just as good. The audience don't know or care about the effects chain; just whether they've had a good time. That said, a device like this Donner unit, or a Tech 21 Flyrig is probably a good idea, for backup purposes.
Ive watched you for years John and I always thought "this guy could make a milk jug and tube screamer sound great," but this things gain was pretty manufactured in some kids 80's basement as a science experiment gone wrong. I'm guessing this thing is cheap as dirt, so i'll let it slide.

I can't believe no-one seems to have noticed this comment is from THE Graham Coxon. You sir, are a legend 👏👏👏
It’s about three times as expensive, Graham. But can’t say your endorsement hasn’t peaked my interest…
Came for the pedal review, stayed for the truefire promo code!
My backup rig is a hotone ampero. It fits in the guitar gig bag front pocket. Also great option, tech 21 fly rig v2, or the rk5 v2.
These backup solutions really need an xlr out, would make them super handy
I might buy this to run after my HX one into my quilter superblock. Full multi effects hybrid rig with speaker, trs, and XLR out with an effects loop.

Tech 21 stuff is realky good. Their Boost DLA gas been my favorite delay for years and I've used a Sansamp for years, as well.
For that scenario, my choice would be a TC Pleatora X3. Any three effects you need. I haven't used a phaser since the '70s and early '80s LOL
I really want to try one of those.

Very handy device… I’ve got one in one of my “break glass in case of emergency” gig backpacks

“That’s what she said”!!!
Awesome, just awesome!

Twoi have tried and liked. Mooer red truck is awesome but pricey for an emergency, BUT the Ammoon cube sugar is nuts for the price!
Seriously I dig that little bowie knife a bit too much!
Sounds decent. But you make everything sound good.
Agree
Ordered one directly from Third Man Records in January and still have no idea when it’ll actually ship. It’s the Chinese Democracy of cheap pedals.

imagine, if you will, a world where only a guitar plugged into an amp exists?

@@isitreallyisitreally1756 as a slight tangent, how many effects pedals (and which ones) would you say are necessary for a gigging guitarist?

“That’s not a knife!!”
Pair this with the zoom ms 50g
Or get a Pod Express for the same price.
@@Michel-r6m pod express is way too expensive compared to zoom ms50g
Only three effects? Overdrive for sure! Delay, EQ pedal.
I think it is a rebadged and chipped Valeton pedal of some sort.

Minor 7 (9) Nation Army
Meh - always enjoy the playing, not so much this pedal
