He doesn’t clickbait with absurdly low calorie numbers and he gives different options and disclaimers where I believe that these recipes are actually a good balance between taste and being macro friendly. I’ll definitely be trying some of these

I just want to give everyone general health tips! You can make easy changes like:
-switching to a diet soda/drinking more water
-walking at least 6 thousand steps(an hour of just walking while listening to music or a podcast)
-Find your calorie maintenance by looking up a maintenance calculator, then add 500 calories if you want to gain muscle, or subtract 500 if you want to lose weight, it’s the minimum required for weight loss.
-Eat clean and within your calorie limit for the week and at the end of the week you can have a cheat meal, for example a dinner or good lunch
-you want to focus more on protein intake(beef, chicken, Turkey, fish, shrimp, etc)
-Don’t remove your carbohydrates regardless what people say because this is what gives you energy
-Go for more volume food, like popcorn and carrots etc
-Egg white contain more protein than regular eggs, but less fats so do what you will.
-you can start the morning with a protein shake, or try not to eat in the morning, and wait until lunch
-Try sprints, for for all an all out run in 10-20 seconds, rest for 2 minutes, and go for 3 sets.
-Make sure to maximize your sleep, sleeping = not eating, not doing any bad habits.

I follow a lot of fitness style diet channels, and they always seem to target beginner style cooking audiences. I love watching any Josh Weissman recipe for techniques and other flavor ideas. I usually sub things for diet friendly options but it’s nice to see how Josh approaches them for example how he is handling the extra lean beef patty. Never would have thought of that.
    Thanks for a great vid

    • @Doctor_Horrible759
      @Doctor_Horrible759 Год назад +5

Yeah most fitness channels tend to be very basic foods, something simple that most people can make without too much fuss.
But Josh’s recipes are for those that would be more ‘advanced’ in the kitchen. I appreciate both sides though. The fitness channels helped me to see that I could still make good food that is close in taste to the higher calorie ones but much better for you calorie wise and typically protein too. That’s what helped me to lose nearly 50 pounds.
This vid gives me better ideas especially since I consider myself a fairly decent cook.

Hey, Josh. When I got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, I went looking for some low-carb alternatives to some of the stuff I'd learned from your channel. For the fried chicken on that sando, you can sub almond flour for the AP. AP has like 60 something grams of carbs per cup. Another idea I tried and liked was crushed up pork rinds instead of the bread crumbs. It works. Give it a try.

Great video Josh - I've always maintained that "by default" if you cook yourself it will end up healthier (within reason of course) and will never taste the same, buuuut it's usually great in a slightly different way. One thing I certainly find to be different is the way you feel afterwards - it's just less "heavy" and doesn't contribute to an urge to nap quite so much. Really appreciate the honest tasting notes.
I'd love to see a companion video about "healthier" choices when you do order fast food. There's loads of times I just can't be bothered making something - my energy, time and care-factor just don't always allow it.

Followup video idea, have Josh make the high and low calorie versions again and have the crew taste test between them to see if they can both differentiate between them and which ones they prefer. Not a "but better" vs a chain restaurant (because we all know Josh beats those with ease) but a Josh vs Josh challenge basically. A lot of the recipes looked really good, might try them out some time :)

You can use Allulose instead of Sucrose (Sugar), because it behaves/tastes just like sugar but the body can't make use of it (because the molecule is a ring instead of a line, so there is no endpoint to break off the calorie), so its just taste without energy. Perfect for any diet including keto. You can even make caramel with it.

Appreciate the push to get people to understand that dieting doesn't have to mean cutting out everything you love, or eating something tasteless. Sure, it comes to being intentional on what you're making and we all know the 'real' stuff has a different flavor. But there is just something to be said for homecooked goodness (with some bulked up veggies) that goes a LONG way.

Hey Josh, I'm a diabetic, and do low carb * and no sugar * as much as possible, these will be helpful.
I have a microwave "bread" thing I do for a substitute for English muffins/scones/ etc ( even cake ) Its easy and might even work in replacement of bread ( though I miss regular bread a lot )
I use 4 to 6 teaspoons, of almond flour, an egg, a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of water, a teaspoon of vinegar, a pinch of pink salt, a pinch of white pepper and tablespoon of oil ( I use cocoanut oil i slightly warm a bit before mixing in this helps it release from container and makes it taste nicer ). add a bit of water if it isnt cake like batter consistent when mixed. Microwave minute and a half, on high ( varies per microwave might need some testing ) then tap edges, or run knife around edge to release, and microwave a bit longer 30 to 45 seconds, to firm it more. take it out of the container, slice, and toast a bit, either on griddle or airfryer as it wont survive in a toaster.
I use this to make egg sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich, also have used it in place of burger buns. While it works and isnt bad, I am hoping you might have a solution to improve it.
( Also, using this same base set of ingrediants, I have made chocolate cake, and spice cake, that was pretty nice. Used Allulose as a sweetener as it is safer for diabetic. add teaspoon of cocoa powder, and a couple teaspoons of allulose and vanilla for chocolate cake, spice cake, I did cinnamon, and ginger, with a bit of oatmeal. frosting option , is cocoanut oil, allulose, vanilla, pinch of salt, then either cocoa powder, or the ginger and cinamon. cake isnt bad, about equivelent to a box cake, nothing special but 'works'. Note, the cakes tend to expand more due to alllulose and more with oats added so use a bigger dish hehe. )
I know this is not perfect, but does seem to help for cravings. Though I miss the taste of 'real bread' for sandwiches.
I'd like to see a video for diabetics in future if possible :)

Unless you have leftover egg whites please use whole eggs. Yolks are good for you even though they contain some fat. Substituting them for cheese seems to me like not a good idea from a dietary standpoint. I don't see why you can't have both in a different proportion.

I love this video because it teaches people how to find healthier options and still have amazing tasting food. I've never been someone who advocates for "diets" because the problem with them is that they are temporary fixes if they even work at all. Once someone goes "off" the diet, they immediately start eating the unhealthy food again. However, if you teach them to find healthier options that taste just as good, if not better, they will most likely start integrating those things into their everyday cooking. Also, please, if you are trying to eat healthier regardless of your reasons, please don't go to fast food restaurants. Doing so will not only change your diet, but will also help your bank account.

I mean it's healthier than the original fast food, but most home cooking is better than those options anyways. Definitely adding some extras to elevate the home cooking which is appreciated. Save 200-500 calories on the main and get some veggie side dishes to fill me up and come out fuller and lower overall calories. As a diabetic, I do have to stay under a certain amount of carbs per meal so im stuck with the low carb alternatives for bread/tortilla options. 😂

I've been low carb/slow carb since 2020 and I have found that King Arthur keto flour makes decent bread and pizza crust. (My pizza recipe uses 200 g of flour for a pizza and it's 10 carbs per slice)...I usually replace only half the flour in a recipe with it though because it's super fucking expensive and if I keep my portion size down, I can eat what tastes almost indistinguishable to me from using regular flour. The big bonus is that my family eats it without complaint. If you are someone on a weird diet, having to either force others to eat what you eat or make two dinners is no fun. It is also really great for shaving carbs out of recipes where flour is necessary but not the star, such as in breading or thickening. It has gluten so it actually rises quite well and gives a texture similar to ap flour.

24:08 - This is one of my concerns with some recipes I've seen that are more macro-focused: frequently they have heavier salt usage to compensate for the lack of flavor being carried by other ingredients. In the short term, that may make it easier to eat leaner foods, but in the long term a saltier diet increases your risk of hypertension. There's no winning, it feels like.
Also I feel like a better antidote to not having pizza on a diet is to just not have American-style pizza and instead have a more tradtional thin-crust margherita.

Here's a little interesting info bit about macronutrients. As a diabetic I have to be mindful of what I eat. And that means no excessive amounts of carbs. So how do I get a meal that is filling? Fats, but I also make sure to get those slow carbs. Aka whole grain type of stuff. Now to add another problem for me, I happen to have gout. So that means I can't eat too much protein from specifically red meats. I still do but that comes with the risk of developing needle sharp crystals in my ankle joints. So my diet ends up being a weird balance of protein, fats and carbs from carefully select sources. Good thing I like beans and legumes 😂

Great video but honestly if you want to be healthier eliminate or reduce the carbs and sugars and add good fats like avocados (and cook with avocado oil for that matter). Eliminated the buns and keep the yokes. Your body needs these fats to absorb vitamins and nutrients. Also don’t buy processed foods that’s are “low fat”. These do more harm than good
