Isn't it a bummer when your computer is not directly next to your CNC and you have to keep walking back and forth to control it? This little wireless keyboard is the key to breaking free from having to sit in front of the computer to control it. I simply plug in the usb dongle to my windows 10 laptop and it configures it automatically. (It will also work with Mac)
I'm a Shapeoko user so I use their carbide motion as the gcode sender. Carbide Motion has built in hotkeys to move the machine on the "jog" page. Once your on the jog page, simple use the corresponding buttons on the wireless keyboard controller and jog the machine x y and z to the desired spot.
I've also tested this in Universal GCode Sender (UGS). UGS allows customizable hot keys so you can program it to do even more than Carbide Motion will do. I even use it to control my J Tech Laser!
For less than $20, it was a no brainer. It even comes in a bunch of different colors!

I just received one of these, as a gift. Even though my laptop is mounted to the side of the machine, it is very useful for setting x/y/z.
its the most usefull upgrade!
Ben, you are a life saver...just received the wireless remote you have in your video....took less than 1 minute to hook it up to my shapeoko xxl and have it working....sweeeeeeet upgrade and for less thank $25, i recommend it to anyone who owns a shapeoko machine....thanks again and keep them coming....
ps...can you make a vid on how to tile in carbide software....please
I can never live without it! It's such a simple upgrade that makes such a huge difference!
Ben, i have the same keyboard thank you. now my question is how are you connecting your "across the shop' computer to your CNC machine? I bought a couple of expensive 30ft USB cables and they don't work. Emailed Carbide only to be told sorry we only support 6ft cables because of interference so no help there. What long USB cables did you specifically use please?
Thanks
i use a 15 foot cable. that seems to be the limit.
Lol disregard my other question... I just found this video! Thanks!
Ordered one today! Got the Shapeoko going last night!
Awesome! This little thing really makes life simpler! Your gonna have a blast!
I received mine today. What a difference! I felt so empowered! LOL
It's so much more convenient!
Just ordered! Thanks man, I just set my machine up a few days ago and your videos and projects are a godsend to a beginner!
Great stuff Ben . I have a question I bought a iPazzPort which is very close to what you have and it works great. But...what do you use to control the "Z" axis from that pad ?
I did this and it is absolutely brilliant. Thanks Ben.
Will this remote also work with universal g-code sender or only Carbide 3D?
Great job on making cnc videos, I plan on getting a shapeoko in two years
Your gonna love it!
Hello……do you use an emergency stop for your Shapeoko cnc ?
Very nice addition.
Would other game controllers work as well like a EasySMX? Great video.
My fusion5 tablet only has one usb port thats used by my shapeoko. Is there something like this that is Bluetooth? Or another way to connect?
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. How about battery life on the keyboard?
it recharges via a mini usb and it lasts for months.
great idea and a good way to get rid of wires from a wired mouse or keyboard.
my fav upgrade by far!
Just ordered it, thanks for the great content man.
Glad it helped!
Excellent information. How long is the USB cable from your computer to the Shapeoko?
15 foot
Hi Ben, I just hooked up my new wireless remote. Thanks for the video. Where did you get your 15' USB cable. I would like to move my laptop farther away Thanks again.@@MyersWoodshop
Ben,
I like it. I use PicSender and Easel as senders on an X-Carve. You said something about set up instructions. Where are they?
Thanks
my blog has the pic of the hot keys. www.myerswoodshop.com/blog
I had an old iiyama monitor with touch and that works even better I can just click on the screen every button I also tried it with a laptop with touch and that also went smooth
Great!
great keyboard Where can I purchase it?
Can you actually use it to Rout something with our using Carbide Create?
I am new to Utube when you say the link is below what am I looking for ?

Just got mine and hope to use it this weekend. I see from other post that you use a 15' cable to your laptop, what brand and where can I purchase one. Some on amazon have some poor reviews and say they get interference or skip or something or other. I do not want to order one and run into that problem. Thanks for the great video and keep up the great work.
thanks john! It sure makes it much easier!
Hi! Quick question: does this work with the newest version of Carbide Motion and GRBL? CM4 and GRBL 1.1 or higher. Thanks :)
yes!
Hah... I was wondering about a remote and never even thought of using a usb keyboard. I already have one from a previous project where I used it in a simpit for when I needed a keyboard.
Easy peasy
Thanks, Ben. Always a wealth of knowledge.
Thanks Kent. I hope to keep dropping knowledge bombs
@@MyersWoodshop I thought you had made a video on making the spoilboard but now I can't find it. I'm hoping to get to that point, this weekend.
Haven’t made a video on it. There’s a post on my blog and files on my etsy that are already fully programs
@@MyersWoodshop Oh, maybe that's where I saw it! Thanks, Ben.
This is the exact same one I use. I'm not sure I could get by without it!
Me either. I do a lot less walking now
Are there any changes of note with the new V5 of Carbide Motion? I just upgraded and just got my remote.
I no longer have a shapeoko so I'm not sure. I use a www.onefinitycnc.com now.
Thanks. I forgot you went to the Onefinity. Happy New Year!
Cool I have this keyboard we use for our TV with our projector
Oh yeah! Perfect. It’s awesome
Great videos. Can this also be setup for CNCJS?
If it can use macros or hot keys then yes!
I am having problems with my machine. Iwas flatting my wasteboard and the machine went nuts trying to drive 6bit throught the wasteboard and shut down.
I have tried seberal times to Home the machine, when the cycle starts it jus movers away from the Z sensor and keeps going downto end of travel.
Help
i'm not sure.
Will this also work with the Sienci Long Mill?
I don't know.
On the mini can you pause the work in progrès?
unfortunately no. they don't have a hot key for it.
Is there a way to create a shortcut to the zero screen.....
Zeroing is great via the remote keypad but without being able to hit zero.....its still not perfect
not at this time.
This is excellent stuff! I subscribe!
Thanks so much!!
Can you z-probe with just the remote keyboard?
No you can’t. You’d have to use the computer for that
Will it work with the X-Carve?
YES!
Any body have an issue with z axis up control stop working?..
I havent.
Thanks
Your welcome Ben.
buying one today. thanks
Glad it helped!
