Hey guys, in this video, I have Daniel Braun back on the channel to analyze what's in my wallet in Q2 of 2023. Not only that, but I also get the chance to take a look at what's in his travel wallet while he's on a trip to Austin, Texas. Daniel and I have very similar credit card setups and strategies to maximize our spend in our highest spending categories (using a combination of the Chase Trifecta and Amex cards), but considering everyone's setup is going to be slightly different, hopefully hearing the rationale about why we have the credit cards we do will help you make a better-informed decision on your next credit card application. If you're a fan of "What's In My Wallet" videos, I expect you'll enjoy this 2-for-1 episode here today.

Always cool to see when creators have similar setups! The cards we both use are excellent value - thanks for featuring me in a second video!
I agree!! Thank you for coming on once again and sharing your wallet with us!
Good job! Great video guys! 👍
Congrats on an awesome collab!
@@caribdude8151 Thank you so much!
@@matthewvillegas6494 Thank you Matt!
Watched so many of your videos and JUST NOW realized the size of your channel. The quality of your videos and content is amazing!
That means a ton man!! Thank you so much for saying that.
Very cool to see what you both carry in your wallets! Very similar setups too - definitely can’t go wrong with Chase. Looking forward to seeing you get the Bilt card (and Daniel getting the VX). Fun video Spencer!
I appreciate you tuning in Stan! I feel like Daniel and I have very similar strategies and it's worked well for us so far! I'm excited to add the Bilt card too... one day!!
BILT card is on the horizon for me too for Hyatt transfers
It’s good for that!
Love this video Spencer! Understanding people's setups and why they are in place is a really important thing that can help guide the CC's that each of us choose to add based on what our own situations look like. I"m rocking with that Grubhub Credit for pickup Chipotle as well with the Gold card haha!
I appreciate that Matt! I always love to see what cards people are using so I figured a 2-for-1 would be fun for folks. Gotta love when things align as well between us all... and I do love me some Chipotle!!
Very cool video! Enjoyed this format! One of my favorite types of credit card videos has always been, “What’s in my wallet “ videos. This was the first time I’ve seen it done like this! Great job!
Thank you Jordan! I'm always trying to push the envelope in any way I can so I appreciate you giving me that feedback. Thanks for being here as always!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial you’re welcome!
you guys really got a lot done in that visit I'm loving it!
It was a business trip!! 😆 Thanks though Chad!
You two have quite the wallets!!! Great video and information!! Appreciate you both!!!!
I appreciate you my man! Thanks so much for being here as always!
This was great! Loved to see the different setups, and that Bilt definitely hits different!
I’m for sure supposed to slow down like how you guys said at the end, but I’m constantly having SUBs to hit with new cards so what’s in my wallets never work for me haha. It’s always 1 card every few months ha.
Great job with this Spencer, amazing work!
Thank you Tony! I need to get my hands on that Bilt card for sure lol.
It's definitely nice to slow down from time to time, but I also get antsy, that's for sure. New SUBs are never a bad thing, but now that I'm caught in Amex pop-up jail, putting some spend on my other cards with them has probably been a good thing.
Thanks for watching as always man!
What an awesome collaboration! Love seeing these different viewpoints.
Thank you so much! I’m always happy to have guests on and I’m looking forward to more to come!
It's always fun to see which CCs people are using. Thanks for another great collab video!
I agree with you Jimmy! It's one of my favorite things to watch from other creators so I thought a 2-for-1 would be fun. Thank you for watching as always!
Thanks for watching Jimmy!
Two of the best. Thanks for sharing gentlemen.
That means a lot! I appreciate you.
I love these collaboration vids! I've been following Daniel since day 1 (same for you). I just switched cards in my wallet for this quarter, right now I have the AMEX Gold, AMEX BCE, Chase S Preferred, Chase United Mileage Plus, Charles Schwab Debit..Great vid Spencer
I love to hear that Mike! Thanks for all the support man. That sounds like you're rocking a solid setup for sure. Keep up the great work and thank you for the kind words!
Appreciate you watching my channel for so long Mike! Great setup you've got!
This video was actually so awesome! So cool how it was shot. Love the collab!
That means a lot John. Thanks so much!!
Thanks for watching John!
For times of little to no traveling, the Gold card along with the Charles Schwab Platinum is sweet combo for investing points.
Agreed! Or cashing out to your checking account too 🤷🏼♂️
Where is the referral button for Chase Preferred on your channel, or do I access it somewhere else?
Great video! I love a whats in my wallet video - and seeing you check out each others wallets was next level! Really cool idea.
Thanks so much Michael! I figured a two-for-one would be nice for people to see. I'm glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for watching Michael! Glad you liked it!
@@Daniel_Braun for sure! Thanks for both of your incredible content!
@Spencer 🎉🎉🎉🎉 grats on another excellent video. I'm really confused. Why would I want to diversity if it'll take me longer to accumulate and then obviously must of the time you can't transfer them. Having the Chase trifecta, I'm still stuck thinking about if I should try to get a card from another lender or not. I guess I guess, I'm also kindda of curious about what Citi is going to bring to the table before I try Capital One.
Thanks so much! As for diversification, it's better when you have the ability to earn a lot of points and you can achieve that with any amount of spend by getting cards with elevated welcome offers. And depending on the cards you're getting, you can transfer out to travel partners across all lenders and effectively combine them with overlapping transfer partners that these lenders have. Citi could be worth a shot, but Chase and Amex are my two favorite. It all depends on your spending habits and how you choose to redeem though!
For me, it's all about the balanced approach each time. My top cashback card gets me 5.25% on dining and my catch-all is 2.62% back on everything. I also have Freedom Flex for Amazon this quarter (5%) going, the Sapphire Preferred, Southwest Priority Card and Citi Custom Cash for gas (5%).
That's a great cash back setup for sure! I agree with you, it's all about a balanced approach.
Great setup Scott! Thanks for watching
I’m a big Daniel fan. Thanks for having him on your channel.
Same here! And no problem at all!
Appreciate that Anthony, thanks for all of the support!!
I use a NavyFed Flagship as my overall credit card. I might open up the CSR in the next few months and that will be my travel card.
That's great to hear! Best of luck to you if you do decide to go for the CSR!
Very cool video here! I’m planning a “what’s in my wallet” video on my channel very soon. Hint, there will be some chase cards! Great to see you two collaborate, awesome video man!
Thanks so much! I love to hear you’ll have some Chase cards in there, that’s awesome. I appreciate your support!
Looking forward to seeing that, I love seeing what's in everyone's wallets!
Thanks you guys for the inspiration!
Can't wait for another collab between you and Daniel! Definitely trying to get the Ink Cash, Amex Gold, CSP, and World of Hyatt next - hopefully in that order! I'm hoping the Ink Cash has a higher SUB soon!
I'd love to have him on for more vids in the future! It sounds like you got a really good roadmap rn and I'm excited for you to pick those up! I'd love to see the Ink cards have some elevated SUBs come back, but what they have now definitely isn't bad either for a no annual fee card!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial absolutely man! you guys are credit card inspirations to me and I'm happy I get to share the knowledge with people around me who care about this subject!

I appreciate you Manny!
Thanks as always for watching Manny!
My new favorite Sunday podcast!!! Move over ICH.
Haha thank you so much Bob!! That means the world.
Aren't Capital One miles basically supplements to Amex points? The travel partners where you get the most transfer value are mostly the same. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm actually agonizing over VentureX, CFU, or Amex Blue Business for my catch-all.
That's correct! When lenders have overlapping transfer partners, your points are effectively combined across those lenders if you wanted to transfer to those specific overlapping partners. I actually have all 3 of the cards you listed and use them each for different purposes so I wouldn't stress too much about it. Just go with the one with the transfer partners you'd use the most!
Yeah. Having plenty of options out there is great. Nice wallet. Definitely want to diversify my points over time.
Absolutely! I think point diversification can be very valuable. Thanks for watching JP!
Not going to lie, the “whats in in my wallet” bit is a bit stretched for all content creators, but doing a two person live session is a good refresher POV. I like the analysis on both ends.
I'm glad this one was more enjoyable for you! What's In My Wallet videos are some of my favorite to watch, but there are definitely a lot of them out there. I wanted to put my own twist on it with this one and I was happy that Daniel was a part of it!
Let me pose to you a question. I have a captial1 card as my primary cc. I don't travel much, maybe once or twice a year. I don't eat out more than 4 times a week. I don't rent or have a car payment (any more) and I buy everything on my capital 1 card then pay off the balance every 20 days. Which cards do you think I should get and in what order?
I unfortunately cannot give a full step-by-step breakdown of how you should complete the credit card game considering everyone's situation is so different, but it sounds like you're someone who really doesn't need many cards unless you just want to apply for the welcome bonuses. However, I think it'd be good to get a cash-back catch-all card (which I've made a full video about on my channel about) to ensure you're getting at least 2x back across all your purchases. Then you could add one or two other cards with high earnings in your highest spend categories if you choose to. Just be sure to always use your credit cards like a debit card (meaning that you should only ever purchase items you can pay off right away). Hopefully this helps a bit!
My AMEX Platinum is full metal. No plastic on the underside.
I’ve just started getting into this space and man the information can be overwhelming 😅
It can definitely be a lot. I try to mix in videos that are a little less intense, but it's easy to get in the weeds. I'm always open to questions though!
This awesome creator link up !!
I appreciate you Ridley! We had a good time for sure.
Just redeemed 9k points to fly on Virgin Atlantic from Austin to London. Something to look out for when you decide to go to Europe!
Only 9k points?! That is wild. How'd you find that? I need that from Austin too haha.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yup! I’m waiting on the flight in AUS right now!
I was just searching award flights on Virgin and found this one!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial And my parents used the 30% bonus point redemption through Chase to Virgin so they got it for 7k points! Just one way but still a great deal
That's awesome! I don't wanna make you share the dates here, but I'd be curious to know how far out you had to book.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yeah! We saw the redemption about a month out but didn’t have the points. We ended up booking like 2 weeks prior. In doing a quick search it looks like tomorrows flight is the same price so I think at least a month out to the date of departure is the window.
I would love a regular segment of the two of you debating the merits of certain cards
I’d love to do that too! What cards would you like to see debated?
Hopefully we'll collab on some more stuff in the future as well!
I think it’s most interesting to compare cards with similar earning rates in the same categories across issuers. Green vs Autograph vs Premier. Gold vs BCP vs CCC. Gold vs Alt Go vs CCC. But mostly it’s just refreshing to hear an unscripted, multi-person discussion where you have alternate view points. It’s like Credit Card PTI!
I love that idea! If I could have one of these convos every single week I would. I’m hoping to keep them coming in the future and I’ll keep this in mind!
Going through each other's wallets, you must have known each other since the sandbox. Blood Brothers.
🙌🙌🙌 guessed Daniel right. Gonna reply to this when I see if I guessed what's in his wallet!
Since he has the Preferred in his backpack I technically got it right. Lol. Interesting video guys. Enjoyed this collab!
Yes sir you did!! I was pretty impressed haha. And yeah, the CSP shifted the tide in Chase's favor so you were right on the money.
Thanks for watching David! Hoping to do some more collabs like this with Spencer and some other creators soon!
What do you recommend for someone who doesn’t really fly that often or book major hotel chains regularly?
Have you looked into any hotel cards? For example, if you stay frequently at Hiltons, one of their credit cards could be super valuable to you.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial no normally when we vacation we go through VRBO or something like that or an Inn down the shore. We have flights this year but the last time we flew was 8 years ago. Really trying to find a strategy that works.
Oh I thought you said you did book hotels lol. My bad. You could always get a card with a higher multiplier on base travel purchases, but that’s really it if you’re looking for a travel card. However, I imagine you spend a lot on gas, so getting a card with a high multiplier there could be good. And a catch-all card with a high base earning multiplier is good for everyone’s setup. For what exact card to get, I’d have to know more about your current setup and goals with your rewards tbh.
-if you not brand loyal, then go with 1 travel card that offers flexible currency, i.e. chase sapphire preferred, Amex Green or Platnium, Citi Premier or Capital Venture or Venture X. Then add in 1 or 2 cashback cards from the same issuer as your travel card. Then you should be set.
Agreed! Doc’s always got the answers!
U guys keep talking about business expense. And the. Use gold card for dining. How do u separate business lunch or dinner when u use gold card?
For me, the Gold card is my personal dining card. For business lunches and dinners, I would use a different business card like the Chase Ink Cash or Amex Blue Business Plus with the current cards that I have. However, you can put business expenses on personal cards if you want to, you just need to keep track of those receipts for tax season.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial thank you for the reply
@@kirklandguy015 No problem!
Hey what jacket does Daniel have on???
That's a great question! Hopefully he'll be able to answer this for ya.
It's called The Boulevard Bomber jacket from a brand called Bonobos! A bit pricey but I liked the style when I saw it online and it's my new favorite jacket now haha
How did Daniel book his flight for 11k miles?
That's a great question that I should have asked him! Hopefully he'll see this comment and respond, but I'd be curious to know how exactly he did it as well!
I’m claiming 3rd I guess…

Great Vid Guys. What kind of wallet Spencer has??
Thank you so much! I use a wallet from Tecovas, but I also have an Ekster wallet as my backup and used to use that one frequently as well. This leather one from Tecovas is really nice too though!
I’m currently riding out the next two years before I’m eligible to apply for a Chase credit card… Freedom Unlimited is what I’m gunning for…
You can do it! Remember, you can always add business cards to your setup without adding to your 5/24 count 👀 (as long as they aren’t with Discover and Cap1)
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I totally forgot I’ve made a similar comment on a different video, I’m just completely hesitant on adding a business credit card this early on my credit journey… but I’m studying this Bilt Reward card in which its very much similar to the CSP Card as far as it’s multiplier and some of the transferring partners… but it’s really good to see two popular content creators doing a collaboration video 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
That’s completely fair! You may have mentioned that and I missed it. I just like to make sure folks are aware of that tool! The Bilt card is awesome too. Of course, that one does add to your 5/24 count, but it’s super solid nonetheless. Thank you for your support man!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial anytime bro💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 let’s help spread financial literacy, I didn’t know anything about credit card points until late last year…
Absolutely!! That’s what I’m trying to do here for sure! There’s a lot of profit and knowledge to be spread around.
What’s up Spencer. Unfortunately I am in pop up jail some how now lol. I was going to use your link for that green card app, but looks like It wont make sense for me to get it now. Sorry man, I do try and click on your ads to help you out. I enjoyed your video though. Have a good one.
What’s up man! That sucks you’re in pop up jail. So am I apparently 🤷🏼♂️ I do really appreciate you trying to use my links though. As for the ads, that means a lot too, but no need to click into the ones RUclips shows you. I believe I get credit if they’re just played through so it’s no biggie either way! Your support really is appreciated though. It keeps me going!!
Hahahaha. Spencer u just had to drop the Bilt card 😂❤😂 Cant wait til u join the Bilt club.
Dude yes! I hadn't seen it in person until now haha. I'm excited to get it for myself too!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial - Damn. Hahahahaha. I told u, its a beautiful card. Just wait til u get ur own :) Wallet and Apple Wallet. Sexyness. Lol
Looking forward to the day!!
And remember, it’s always a smart idea to keep your bank usernames and passwords in your wallet. That way you can access your bank accounts anytime, anywhere without having to carry around that annoying cell phone.
Uhhhhhhhhhh
You could do that, however, I much prefer to keep them stored digitally as to not lose those passwords if I was to lose my wallet. That may just be me though!
You didn’t go over the annual cost for any of your cards like the American Express Gold and show how much you yearly make on those with rewards as opposed to the other cards. Also, so many don’t let you get the rewards until you make a particular total amount to cash out which you did not go over. You gave zero examples of what rewards you actually gained on any of your cards with only showing what card offers but not showing YOUR rewards. Now keeping cards does help to maintain high credit scores but there are other ways to make cash monthly without paying credit card fees. So yeah, the credit full wallet is possible for many who do pay their credit cards but most of America 40-50% don’t have $400 in savings!! So even high earning folks spent it all and have nothing extra for high annual fee cards.
I think I saw Spencer slip a 20$ out of daniels wallet!!
Hahah he's onto me! 😆
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I'm just playing obviously, but for real thank you so much for this type of content. It's really enjoyable to watch and is nice to see what types of setups yall are running.
Of course man! I'm really happy you enjoy this type of content for sure! @@JohnsonStobeck
Some criticism you may or may not appreciate
When time stamping the video, use the name of the actual cards instead of "Card #1, Card #2, Card #3"
The people that want to use the timestamps to skip around already don't want to watch the whole video or they may have already watched it and want to refer back to it in the future. I feel like it is a subtle way to encourage people to watch the video but if they are looking for the timestamps in the first place then I think we are past that point. It just slows down the seeking slightly, making a slightly worse user experience.
That's a great recommendation for sure! I try to make the "What's In My Wallet" videos a bit more mysterious, but to hear someone with that input means that others would have it too. I'll change them now and I appreciate any constructive criticism you have!
Just finished updating it! Let me know if you think that provides for a better user experience for ya! As I said in my previous response, I appreciate your feedback!
Wow I appreciate that, I didn't think you'd change it
@@kura_bot No problem at all! I want everyone to enjoy my content and that's why I include chapters in the first place. I'm always open to making it better though!
When you use the barter system, you don't even need a wallet. One less thing to carry around. I'm out of the game.
Oh Jason, you never fail to disappoint. 🤣

@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I like travel game . Heck I do .. some days I wonder if we should be working harder in life rather than trying to hack everything lmao
