Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I have done the oil pan/filter and changed out the oil procedure before. I bought a new mechatronic sleeve before and tried replacing it. I gave up because I couldn't figure out how to remove it even with the tab sleeve pulled down. I thought it was stuck so now I know to just simply use a flat head screw driver. I feel the exact same way! This video is going to save DIYers a fortune. I got a $1200 quote from the dealer for this service on my E90 330i, and I know for a fact that did not include the solenoids or sleeves 🙄 simple pan/filter + fluid. I'll spend $750 for an entire trans rebuild + solenoids and do it myself
FYI anyone who comes across this, replacing solenoids solved my problem, so far. I had slip on 4-5 upshift, jolt on 5-6, and 2-1 downshift bump. Codes came up 4f8A and also 4f86 for 4-5 upshift but no other codes. Originally i just attempted with the bridge and finger seals, but that did not solve the problem. I have been able to test the car on at least one road trip and a few high load shifts, and so far so good. If anyone buys a car with a higher mileage ZF automatic transmission (over 120k miles, 200k km) at the first sign of transmission issues I would recommend this service. I would recommend disconnecting the battery during this service. When putting the car back together make sure the sliding arm on the valvebody is aligned with the shift selector on the trans housing.
Having the same issue on my 08 X5 3.0si, code 4F8A slip on 4-5 then goes into limp mode fixed in 3rd gear. I did replace the seals and the fluids hoping it will fix it but unfortunately it did not, going to go with the solenoids next, hopefully can get the correct ones. Thanks

@@JayBands-me4wn, it went completely to plan. Scary as shit to me because once you put it back together, your heart is in your chest before the drive. For me, there was an improvement, but not 100% better. I had flaring between shifts that didn't completely go away. I used Pentosin (spelling?) to refill, and that was a mistake. I later changed it to the zf fluid and the problem was completely solved.
Great video! Getting ready to do this job on my 08 E60 528xi. I ordered the solenoid kit & foam protection sleeve from Autohaus. The price was $40 cheaper than FCP even though I did buy the rest of the parts from FCP since I was also ordering some suspension parts. Getting to the pan on the all wheel drive E60 is a little different than on the E90 the rest of the steps are the same since it's pretty much the same transmission. Thanks again for the really informative video!
When tightening the oil pan bolts, I noticed that after tightening to spec of 6 ft lbs on all the bolts, I try the torque on previous bolts and they were much too loose so I had to tighten again all of them criss-cross pattern. I think I went 3 times to get 6 ft lbs to even them out. This is because as other bolts get tightened, previous bolts loosen up. This needs to be clear, otherwise, if only tightened 1 time, other initial bolts will be too loose and fluid would leak.
I wish I had changed the Solenoids when I serviced the oil the filter and the plastic components. Luckily the oil was not very dirty and found no shavings at 77k miles 335d car. I was and still am experiencing overly delayed firm shifting on gears 2-3 that was worse when cold when driving slow. Since I flushed trans and flashed a TCU tune that didn't help. I should do the service again with solenoids !!! 😭😤
My old "figure 8 seal"... The larger side, was split, completely through, on two diagonal corners. ... That didn't seem like normal wear... Old transmission fluid was black, with some chocolate swirls. And seemed to be not enough of it. I didn't measure what came out, but it seemed light. No metal flake though.
my trans slipped on my e90 335i zf6hp19 and ever since i had some noise when shifting from 2-3 and 4-5. I did a fluid and filter change and when i drained it it looked a little dirty and not as much as expected came out. When i did the fill it took 4 qts cold then once it was warmed up it took 3 more. They usually say around 6 qts for the fluid and filter change so i was possibly down a qt. at first it seemed to help i drove it very lightly for the first 50 miles to break in the fluid and when i did some harder pulls it completely slipped out again and hit redline and now I actually got the gear symbol on my dash and it locked me in 2nd once i pulled off the highway. I limped it home and restarted it and took it around the block and it seems to shift okay. Only code i got from mhd that drive was 2AB4 which could be completely unrelated im not sure. Would changing out the mechatronic sleeve and solinoids fix my issue or should i start looking for another trans. thank you

Fantastic video. I've seen some of your others. Always helpful. I have the same car and now experiencing the same thing. At at minimum i know i have a leak and need to replace the pan, filter and fluid. I know I can do this job based on what you have shown here, but my concern is the software. After reading the info from the link you supplied, it seems to be somewhat complicated. Any chance you can advise on that, or supply a specific step by step you did with regards to downloading the software. I have a company PC and likely won't be able to use that, but have access to another that has Windows 10. It stated something about loading another version of Windows before downloading the software. Comments?
Not a bad overall video. I would also suggest watching Ford Tech Makuloco on the service for the Ford 6r60/80 transmission which is pretty much the same thing as the 6hp19. I would also venture to say that you could also use the ford Mercon SP and LV fluid.
Is the torque for the mechatronic unit to the valve body 6 ft lbs or 6 nm? you said 6 ft lbs in the video but everything else was nm in there? Please help
Thanks you for this video , for my 90,325i, the gears don't shift and the gear lever is locked, so you have to trigger it manually before moving off, and again the gears are not displayed. I need help please. Thank you
I was just rewatching this video the other day, and I was wondering if you happened to capture the adaptations before replacing the solenoids/sleeves/etc? Currently the torque adaptations for my car have the E clutch at 670 (yikes!), and 140 (not great, but not horrific) for my A clutch. I currently get a 3-4 slip, likely due to the E clutch. You had mentioned that you had some shifting issues, so I was curious about a before and after, before I go looking into a transmission rebuild. Thanks!
Can you make a video for a DCT transmission? The pan, filter, mechatronic sleeve change and final fill? Your videos are one of the best for N54 engine. Many thanks
@Vehicular DIY Sorry to dig up an old video, however, I have a transmission question I’m hoping you could answer. The previous owner of my E90 325i used the car to haul trailers full of gravel; this killed the transmission. I bought a used transmission and was curious if I can use the original mechatronics unit on the replacement transmission without needing to code the car.
The sleeve adaptor was a bitch but thanks to your advice, I got it in with a small hammer with rubber handle too! I broke the first sleeve adaptor using a pry bar but I had a spare laying around which I applied my new learned knowledge on and boom, in it went.
Hi, you seem to be knowledgeable at this. I am debating whether to replace the mechatronic unit or just the solenoids. Are all of the (accumulator?) pistons on the valve body supposed to push in and out via spring action? On my ZF6HP19 mechatronic, some pistons don't move at all. Specifically, in my unit, there are 5 pistons with cotter pins on the underside (assuming top side is where one can see the solenoids), 3 of them facing the right, 2 facing the left. The smaller 2 of the 3 facing the right, push in and out with spring action pushing them back out. The third, being the bigger one, with a bigger radius, is stuck, does not move. The other 2 pistons, facing the left are stuck, do not move. Looking at the edge of the mechatronic, opposite to the edge where the solenoid valves are, there are 6 pistons with cotter pins, 2 on the longer part that's protruding, they both push in and spring back out (one of them is deeper in, but still can be pushed with a finger), and there are 4 on the shorter part, by the tab that reads 1068327179. Out of these 4, the 2 smaller ones, to the left, push in and spring back out. The 2 to the right, with bigger radius, are stuck. Is this normal, or the pistons that are stuck are bad and I need a new mechatronic unit? Thank you very much for your time.

How did it go ?
I have same issues on my 525xi
@@JayBands-me4wn, it went completely to plan. Scary as shit to me because once you put it back together, your heart is in your chest before the drive. For me, there was an improvement, but not 100% better. I had flaring between shifts that didn't completely go away. I used Pentosin (spelling?) to refill, and that was a mistake. I later changed it to the zf fluid and the problem was completely solved.
Where did you learn so much from?! Great video .
Wow very great detail ! I’m doing this exact Job now I’m glad I found your video ! I’ve been subscribed for awhile just never seen this one! Thanks
Good luck!
Respect my friend. Excellent job. Amazing step by step explanation.
Should have changed the separator plate too. As usual great capture, skills and narration. Regards
You got a new subscriber. What a great video. I think my bridge seal broke, this will totally help.
Just want to say thank you for the clean instructions. Will be attempting soon
Brilliant video. Step by step & very clear. Well Done. Thank you.
Excellent DIY! Thanks for posting. Helps a ton!
The best video out on RUclips.Thank you buddy
Nice video. Evetrything explained in detail. Now I can finally do this job with confidence.
dude, i like the Ninja-vise-grip move
My old "figure 8 seal"... The larger side, was split, completely through, on two diagonal corners. ... That didn't seem like normal wear... Old transmission fluid was black, with some chocolate swirls. And seemed to be not enough of it. I didn't measure what came out, but it seemed light. No metal flake though.
Well done. I needed that. The camera work was great. Thank you.
Thank you for the detail video great job
After watching your very thorough excellent video I am going to attempt to do my own
@22:30 he says "also 6 foot pounds"... is it 6newton meters, or 6 foot pounds? Because 6 foot pounds is about 8 NM
No.1 video for transmission is you did
Great video man keep it up. You made it look super easy
I agree, thank you! How do you get the filter washer out?😢
Must be great working on vehicles with zero rust.
I'm from Canada and I've been here for 4 years and trust me even to this day I'm shocked at how clean cars stay here. No torches needed haha.
A transmission rebuilder told me vasoline works to suspend seals springs whatnot to the housing when the valve body is off.
my trans slipped on my e90 335i zf6hp19 and ever since i had some noise when shifting from 2-3 and 4-5. Would changing out the mechatronic sleeve and solinoids fix my issue or should i start looking for another trans. thank you
what a fantastic channel, thank you for your service

Great video,I predict that your views counter will go up significantly!! In the near future. 🖒thanks for sharing knowledge.
Awesome video, I just inherited a 2006 330i. It shifts hard and NOW I know why! With 156,000 miles mine will also go into “limp”/“safe” mode and stick itself in what I think is 3rd gear. Do you think there is a good chance replacing seals and solenoids will fix that problem as well? Thanks again for the great video!
NEED A REPLY TO THIS COMMENT I HAVE SAME ISSUE IM STUCK IN LIMP MODE
You are the best , i love your development
Thank you sm for inpa install guide
Brilliant video, easy to understand. 👌
22:30 6 foot pound is not the same as 6NM. Just so you know!
Lol fr, need to flip the bad boy over and read the lbs
It’s around 4lbs of torque
un vídeo muy detallado si yo tuviera tiempo y un espacio donde hacer ese trabajo con gusto lo haría aparte de ahorrar dinero me parece muy divertido y entretenido. gracias por mostrarnos tu trabajo
Hey there great video but I wish I have the tools time and space. How much do you think I can expect a job like this to cost me? Thanks in advance
Awesome video how long for the whole rebuild
Thanks for uploading the videos
Is the torque for the mechatronic unit to the valve body 6 ft lbs or 6 nm? you said 6 ft lbs in the video but everything else was nm in there? Please help
Thanks you for this video , for my 90,325i, the gears don't shift and the gear lever is locked, so you have to trigger it manually before moving off, and again the gears are not displayed. I need help please. Thank you
Hi do you know the part# for that sponge gasket that you cleaned and reused in this video.I think you said it was like a $12 part.
Try checking out realoem.com might have the part numbers for your bmw. Shumile swift (RUclipsr) provided this info in one of his videos .
@@miguelc9358 found it. Thanks
@@KailapaHH Thanks for sharing information from the part reference, it helped us a lot!
I can’t find it?
@@summerleilani7679 I also cannot find it
Highly informative. Thanks man✊🏾🙌🏾
Good morning a query this procedure applies to an e90 model 2008 328xi N51. Excellent video
Thanks!
@vehiculardiy
Man where were you when I had to do mine ? it took me 16 hours
Can you make a video for a DCT transmission? The pan, filter, mechatronic sleeve change and final fill? Your videos are one of the best for N54 engine. Many thanks
Is it safe to drive to a guy to reset the electronic element if you font have the software yourself.
Yes I would just drive it easy.
Excellent work mate!
Thanks for the video!
This was an awesome video!! Thanks for sharing..
Pls. post a link to buy parts for this job. Thanks

Wow I loved this s video really detailed and educational thank you 🙏🏼
Very informative, great and detailed video. Thanks
Awesome video!!!! Upon start up, your battery seemed weak. Was it sitting a while? Love your content. Seems like you do it all and DIYS that others don’t touch. 💪🏼
Yeah I had the key in the on position for a while and I have the fogs coded to run all the type so it was a little weak but normally it's solid. I changed it not too long ago. Thanks!
Hello. Thank you so much for this video. How did you get your sheered pan bolt out?
