Your use of Internal / external as explanation was excellent. Love when you provide this level of information, it's always very helpful when trying to explain to others. Finally, "Editing Ivy" is SO danged cute with those frames. Love it!
I recommend Consorting with Spirits by Jason Miller if you are interested in evocation AND want to explore other methods to evoke entities outside of the Solomonic/GD system.
I really love how you go about sharing this information. I have a great deal of respect for your ability to recognize the difference between magical, spiritual, and religious systems alongside sharing your knowledge and UPG. Thanks for your hard work and clear communication!!❤❤
Invocation is fun and personal, while evocation involves the thought of the spirit and waking up, from 2AM to 3AM. The spirit is externalized during evocation, potentially grabbing non-casual attention.

I so, so, so loved the way you were clear about the way these words are defined differently within different practices. As someone who has practiced starting in the mid 70's even definitions for words like spells or charms are so different as time passes and by practice. And thank you for the etymology discussion. I find etymology so helpful. Thank you. Winter blessings
Maybe I'm too hung up on the word "summon" and what it means in the context of ceremonial magick, witchcraft and chaos magick. Your video made me curious and questions popped into my mind as I was listening. I hope these aren't stupid questions. Q: If someone uses an established ritual or formula, and performs it correctly does the entity summoned usually show up? And, they're OK with this? Q: Isn't it advisable to establish a relationship with the entity first, in case they don't want you to summon them? Don't most/all entities expect reciprocity? Q: In my eclectic practice, my group invited entities (e.g. nature spirits, ancestors) to work with us. Where would an invitation fall on the nuanced spectrum of invocation - evocation? Ivy, as always your videos are educational and thought provoking. PS thank you for sharing the entomology .
Q1: It depends! If the magician is well researched, they should know the proper correspondences and summoning techniques. Thus, the chances of actually summoning that entity are pretty high. However, when evoking a spirit, they have their own autonomy and may or may not actually show up. Q2: This is a matter of personal opinion. I always enjoy establishing relationships with the spirits I invoke/evoke but others may not value this approach. Some people prefer more of a business/transactional approach where there is less of a friend relationship and more of a "you give me this and I'll give you this" type of dynamic. Q3: If you are inviting entities into your ritual space to work with you, that can be considered evocation. It may not be a ceremonial approach to evocation and more of a fluid and flexible approach, but you are still summoning spirits by inviting them into your space. 😊
Also the aspect of prayer is important in renaissance ceremonial magic/Theurgy. Prayer can be both be an aspect of preliminary purification/protection and an aspect of invocation of godhead/union with your holy Guardian Angel or holy daimon.
Such a great and informational video! I thought the etymologies of the words were really interesting and the graphs of the words and when they were used especially intriguing. I started out in 2001 with Raymond Buckland and Scott Cunningham. I go back and consult Cunningham’s works to this day. From there I got into HooDoo which I love so much! HA HA! I know you don’t like doing beginners videos, and this channel is way above a beginner’s level. However, I do think the 101 videos will do incredibly well! I actually do think you should begin to offer 101 courses and then move on up. I would pay for them! 🖤🖤🖤
Thank You Ivy, even though it is considered beginner magic content, you always add things to itake it beyond that and gives even experienced practicioners things to think about. For example I was shocked when I googled the flying spagetti monster and learned of Pastafarianism . Take Care 🤥
i honestly cannot tell you why my mind just did this, but when you said you found the spike in words interesting so you dove deeper, idfk why but i said “OoOo DIVE DADDY” 😭 why tf
What about godforms? Is it a form of invocation or a mix of both invocation and evocation since your sort of being a vessel but also it’s externally out of you and super imposed over our physical body. Would love to hear your thoughts about this technique if you have any experiences!
Totally a matter of personal opinion and which magical model you're working from! (Spirit model, psych model, meta model, etc.) Such a fun conversation!
Some people believe in telekinesis. I am open minded but very skeptical. I have a hard time believing in magic that defies the laws of physics but I'm waiting to be proven wrong!
Thank you for explaining this, embarrassingly it’s something that I have in the past found confusing 🫤 you have clarified it all in the great way you always explain things. Thank you 💕

Hey of topic but can people have abilities of telekinesis?? Like the movie Matilda???
Some people believe in telekinesis. I am open minded but very skeptical. I have a hard time believing in magic that defies the laws of physics but I'm waiting to be proven wrong!
"I'm just kidding" no she's not. She's very serious about this. There are graphs in the vid!
😂😂 damn right! *slaps ruler*
Who here remembers witchvox? 🙋🏻♀️
invocation is reverential ,& evocation is authoritarian command.
YEESSSS
I think you need bigger bookshelves.
I certainly do 😂

Supernatural is my favorite show!

Not embarrassing at all because sometimes even seasoned practitioners miss the tidbits!
