When I was in elementary school I used to get one of these every year as a gift for passing to the next grade, so I have fond memories of Game & Watch. Just got mine a few minutes ago. First impressions: - It seems to be smaller than the original Game & Watch. Or maybe it's because I was a kid last time I played with one. - I didn't get it for the games, but mostly to put it somewhere (like a nightstand or a shelf) to be used as a clock, so I have two major disappointments with this edition: 1. Original Game & Watch consoles had a "wire" in the back that acted as a stand. It is NOT present here, so it can't be placed in vertical position. 2. The console doesn't stay on. After a while, it goes to a standby mode, so it's not possible to see the time unless you turn it on. Apart from that, I applaud the idea and I like the unit and the retro feeling. And it's also awesome to open one of these again after so many years.
My very first handheld was the 1988 Super Mario Bros game and watch. The baby blue one. I put many of hours of gameplay into that bad boy! Had it for over 15 years now!
Seeing the game and watch makes me wish that nintendo brings back a Gameboy advance classic editon or something like that. With built in games like pokemon ruby, link to the past, final fantasy advance, etc.

@@alucard0712 Some NES games like galaxian were only 8kb. That being said an average more "developed" NES games like zelda is 128kb. Original super mario was 31kb so it's possible that it only has 128kb of flash. There is a video on yt of someone accesing the chips via service ports I think they said that the new game and watch has 8x16kb so 128. Hope it's more though, cuz it's the perfect form factor for me
I saw it in the electronic shop and was fascinated by it. I am not a gamer at all but I had a couple of game and watch back in the day. I ended up it buying it online. I guess it's a nostalgia thing for me.

Me and my cousins had many different Game & Watch units, and I even played with some dual-screen G&W. I'm very surprised that, to my understanding, they were not popular in the US and other more developed countries.

wish they sold NES games on switch like carts that you plug into it. it should also glitch out and force you to blow into the port every so often before the game starts.

And also two wristwatch LCD games. Ninja Gaiden, or something, and then another i recall nothing about.

This is great for parents who have kids who have never played the original Mario games. I spent so much time playing Mario on my GBC back in grade school. Even the girls were playing it
So I might be wrong here, I'm a 90's kids who grew up with an NES and SNES until I was about 10, so correct me if I'm wrong; I believe the gold and red color scheme was from earlier Game and Watch's, and then the Famicom was supposedly paying homage to it, then the Game Boy Micro released with the Famicom 2 special edition, so it's like an homage in an homage. I'm sure someone else has more info and will comment if I'm mistaken.
I got a $8 eBay gameboy with 400 games. Its cheaply made and it's not the same but it's better than paying $50. I keep the eBay Gameboy with my emergency kit.
I wish they'd release an updated Micro with a little it bigger screen that's all digital. That'd be incredible, I loved that thing the size especially.
Get a RK, RG, LDK or PocketGo from RetroMiMi instead. They're about $20 or so more and come with a micro SD card with the OS and some games installed on it. I got the original PocketGo with a 2.4" IPS display, a 32GB micro SD card, a hard carry case and Rainbow buttons for $40. I also got the New PocketGo that has a 3.5" IPS screen and 2 micro SD card slots (For up to 64GB) with a 32GB micro SD card, a hard carry case and Rainbow buttons for $75. These are nice little handhelds for the price. I read buying these from other sellers is questionable, that's why I recommend RetroMiMi.

It's kind of neat, but also a waste that nice screen will only ever see Mario 1. If Nintendo added more memory and changed the look, they could make a great GBA Classic mini.
Some of the games came with a metal holder that you could click out so the game could stand. I wish this game had that so you could put it on a shelf showing the clock

this is not really made for you, its more for those of us who grew up with the NES and would often wish we could play NES games on the go before the Game Boy Advance made that a reality, to the point some us ended up getting pirate consoles like the super game axe in an effort to be able to play Zelda 2 on the go only to sneeze have the game freeze and give up on that dream until I discovered flash cards, pocket nes and learned all about emulation

I'm buying one I'm in Trinidad and Tobago and a Nintendo switch in a game store cost 1300 online costs 1000 but this for 50 dollars online it will cost 350 so I got that going for me.
Not going to lie, bought the zelda and smb as a set for 70 and the big draw to me was the clocks which just are so fricking cool, heck the clocks are more of interactive and game like than the original game and watches that bore the super mario bros and legend of zelda games.
Got mine today. I'm a fan. Sure, it would have been nice to have the American Mario 2, as well as Mario 3, which might be the best 8-bit platformer, but whatever. It's not like there aren't a lot of other ways to play those things. I'm hoping they do a similar one for Zelda's 35th next year.

The watch aspect of the 'Game & Watch' was to sit it on your desk and use it as a clock when not playing, that's what we did at school in the 80s ✌🏼🌍
