Coagulation, also known as clotting, is the process by which blood changes from a liquid to a gel, forming a blood clot. It potentially results in hemostasis, the cessation of blood loss from a damaged vessel, followed by repair. The mechanism of coagulation involves activation, adhesion and aggregation of platelets, as well as deposition and maturation of fibrin.
Coagulation begins almost instantly after an injury to the endothelium lining a blood vessel. Exposure of blood to the subendothelial space initiates two processes: changes in platelets, and the exposure of subendothelial tissue factor to plasma factor VII, which ultimately leads to cross-linked fibrin formation. Platelets immediately form a plug at the site of injury; this is called primary hemostasis. Secondary hemostasis occurs simultaneously: additional coagulation (clotting) factors beyond factor VII respond in a cascade to form fibrin strands, which strengthen the platelet plug.
Disorders of coagulation are disease states which can result in problems with hemorrhage, bruising, or thrombosis.
Coagulation is highly conserved throughout biology. In all mammals, coagulation involves both a cellular (platelet) and a protein (coagulation factor) component. The system in humans has been the most extensively researched and is the best understood.

As a teacher who can honestly say that far too many of the concepts I should have learned as an undergrad, and grad student were not taught for understanding. I can say that though I made A's I took very little from cell biology, cell physiology, etc. So rarely do you see a teacher who both knows the material, and can explain it. I truly mean it when I say that your teaching helps me to be a better teacher. I now feel that I understand the concepts I should have learned 10 years ago. Thank you!

Totally. I watched most of Dr Najeeb's video at the end of my internship and start of my residency.... I wished i understood these concepts in a much more explicit, comprehensive and effable manner way back when I was a young student...

Every time I watch your videos (even for just a few minutes), the expression "you've made my day" takes ALL its sense! :) If all teachers could teach clear concepts as CLEARLY as you do, there wouldn't be any failures!!

Thank you Sir, I have watched most of your youtube video toward an exam and thanks to those videos, I passed the exam. Also I learnt a lot from them. I'm very thankful for your gift of transmitting knowledge. This is a classical way of teaching without borders and hence accept my greetings from Cameroon!
