Malaysians have long enjoyed anime classics like Naruto, Dragon Ball, and One Piece due to their nostalgic ties, often airing on local TV. However, newer trends show many fans gravitating toward visually stunning yet mainstream titles like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen. While these are enjoyable, it’s worth revisiting iconic series like Bleach, which has made a phenomenal comeback with its Thousand-Year Blood War arc, showcasing breathtaking animation and deep storytelling. Other timeless gems like Slam Dunk, Great Teacher Onizuka, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Inuyasha offer distinct themes that deserve more attention in today’s anime discourse. Exploring these titles enriches one’s understanding of anime’s evolution beyond just the current hype.
I don't think One Piece was ever aired on local TV. That point stays true for Dragon Ball and Naruto though. Also people in Malaysia are more familiar with more series that are niche in the west like Doraemon, Crayon Shin Chan and Detective Conan for the same reason
