Don’t cut corners when playing with electricity. Especially when it’s something for your kid. Never use electrical tape and call it a day. Heat shrink typing is a must. ALWAYS.
Great informative video for thos DIY projects! One issue I see occasionally is that colors do not matter in some cheaper products. Always check for polarity of the tip to whichever wire and mark it just in case it is a non standard device.
Wait, did I see that correctly? When you tested the wires, the wire with white dash marks was positive, but when you soldered the wires you connected the black wire to the one with white dashes. Isn't that opposite?
The soldering great Job... Wire connections I like to use heat shrink works better and the problem. With electrical Tape comes lose over time Great video... I like the powerline Universal adapter the tips you can change
As mentioned before heatshrink tubing would be a lot better and neat looking. Tape always finds a way to unravel and get sticky. Your son has great taste in music! Metallica!!!!!!!
+mrtomp | MrTP I agree. Twist the wires together in a butt splice instead of a pigtail before soldering and then finish off with 2 small heat shrinks 1 for each wire and one large one over the splices to hold it together and most folks would never even notice it was there.
Hey Tampa Tec really good video thanks for sharing your knowledge. question what if the two wires weren't red &black on the plug side . How would you tell witch is positive and negative ?would it still work?
connect a voltmeter to them and see wether its positive or negative. If negative then the wire that the red lead is attached to is actually the negative polarity wire. Red goes to red, black goes to black.
Awesome video n awesome kid god bless. I gota say I just love the part to teen spirit that Dave growl comes in n starts beating on them drums. Friggin great
I have been trying to fix some headphones, but I find the wires are coated and will not attach to the 3.5mm jack. I have a 100w soldering gun. I am new to this.
Since u took all that effort on the souter... why don't u souter it all the way from the box. Cleaner and safer I think ... 👍Other than that good job right there big fan of your work.. keep it up bro.
That 10V adapter would probably work. Check the schematic of the pedal - or just open up and look to see if it has a voltage regulator. It probably does. If so - 10V would be fine. 10V wall adapter is fairly rare. No gloves needed for a novice with anything low current and under 24V DC.
One thing id add , if your gonna use cable like this on eg a Laptop cable and use eg a lead End from say a AC Router adapter be careful because some wire is regulated for even voltage distribution, i literally blew a motherboard years ago doing this
Can you help me fix my Hp\Lp 2465 monitor please the light comes in the middle of the screen like diffrent colors, dots in 3 seconds the screen turned black
can i do the same with laptop adapter? I have a lenovo adapter and my dog chewed the wire near the power brick, if i cut the plug and transfer it to an old toshiba adapter, which has the same input and output volts will it work? and is it safe?
I think that the polarity [positive and negative] depends on the plug hole[ port] on the device. So even though you wired up Positve and negative correctly from the charger to the plug, the plugs positve and negative may not be the same as whats on the device.
Literally black is negative y'all's always is, red is always positive, most of the time, you get whites d black, white becomes positive black still negative but I deal with low voltage... I want his multi meter though lol
I Think, the pedal will only draw what it needs, so as long as the charger can output more milli amps than what the pedal requires it will be okay. I think less milliamps will burn the charger out, but more miliamps doesn't matter?
6 * 1.5v Alcaline = 9v but 6 * 1.2v NiMh =7.2v. If Alcaline batteries, you can use AAA(1200mAh), AA(2600mAh), C(6-8000mAh) or D(12-16000mAh) cells, but never use higher voltage than recommended. He would have to cut the wire anyway because the adaper got plus on the pin and the pedals don't.
(BIGGEST LESSON TO LEARN FROM THIS VIDEO).Don't ever wear jewelry when working on electrical (especially rings).(google: ring avulsion) sorry for the visual. Now what about these adapters?
terrible. You only need to make a mistake handling live mains power once. Then it is game over. *Do not* assume the label is correct then handle live wires with your hands!! Measure First!!
Rock on. Your son must be a rock star by now!

Doubly liked for encouraging & helping your son's interest in playing music!!

What a legend you're mate, unreal video saves lots of money with these spare adapter lying around.
The slash markings on the the welded pair wire also indicate positive.Nice hack.
Thanks
True Great tip, thanks
that's all I needed to know, 7 years and your still a help
The soldering great Job... Wire connections I like to use heat shrink works better and the problem. With electrical Tape comes lose over time

Great tips thanks

Great video , great dad , awesome son!
Wow your son is rocker support thankyou for the good video
Yeah! Little dude shredding some nirvana!
I think I'll use heat shrink tubing over those solder connections. It's easier and neater looking. Nice video!
True
good job the video is pretty simple but the whole point of it is giving an idea wich is not in your head or you never thought of it
As mentioned before heatshrink tubing would be a lot better and neat looking. Tape always finds a way to unravel and get sticky. Your son has great taste in music! Metallica!!!!!!!

Actually for the record, that was Nirvana not Metallica.

How Can i splice a apple lightning cable to an on of switch?
Awesome video n awesome kid god bless. I gota say I just love the part to teen spirit that Dave growl comes in n starts beating on them drums. Friggin great
He is good with that guitar!!

He sounded so awesome :)

If i do this on my laptop cahrger cant it hurt the battery in someway or not im guessing no since itd be the same voltage but id appreciate some help
Hi can i follow the joining of wires without soldering just using tape thanku
Yes. Just don't use to little and place aside each other.
Cool 😎 dad ....peace thanks for the video
One thing id add , if your gonna use cable like this on eg a Laptop cable and use eg a lead End from say a AC Router adapter be careful because some wire is regulated for even voltage distribution, i literally blew a motherboard years ago doing this
RATM and Nirvana! 👌🏼
Another way of doing it is with Wire nuts for people who don't have soldering kits.
Can you help me fix my Hp\Lp 2465 monitor please the light comes in the middle of the screen like diffrent colors, dots in 3 seconds the screen turned black
Thanks brother! Your son is pretty good...something smells like teen spirit! ;-) 777
Radical Edward this video is old and he really improved see him now with his rock band gig. ruclips.net/video/BZRqIR6eQJI/видео.html

Hey u have the same problem did u ever find a solution?
and now...you have a headache in your hands! Hahahaha! JK...Thank you, learned a lot!! Best of lucks in music kiddo!
Sweet! Kool kid!

I want to take an ac charger and connect it to an old USB 30 pin and connect it to the firewire pads to do an ac to 30 pin firewire charger.
Using just any power supply, even when correct voltage can cause noise in guitar equipment.
You should cover your wires in hot glue first, then wrap them with tape. Much safer..
not at all.
I dont have any tools what can I do
Did the same thing with nail clippers and an old sticker.
Very talented family😊
This was wonderful, thank you!
So basically, we need to just go ahead and go ahead!!
you do know 9V batteries are about 110mAh right?
I Think, the pedal will only draw what it needs, so as long as the charger can output more milli amps than what the pedal requires it will be okay. I think less milliamps will burn the charger out, but more miliamps doesn't matter?

Rage against the Nirvana. Nice:)
Good video but, wrong way to twist wires together, just saying "
Use heat shrink, much better and safer.
Hé is good at guitare !
terrible. You only need to make a mistake handling live mains power once.

True that's why I suggested to wear protection, gloves.
***** ... whilst gripping the wires with bare hands.
Good
RATM and Nirvana!!!
cablesplicer 9K
10v might work.
Hell yeah Rage Against The Machine...
haha tell Dom to work on his guitar tone, awesome guitarist tho
Does he have music up? I'll check it out. Okay Dom Cobain
Blue and white positive and negative
GET SOME CLIP LEADS!!!
Not really a hack but whatever
Real hucker. what else u can do? restart windows?
