      Larry is quite possibly the best raw powerlifter of all time. His competition squat is bigger than thor managed in his recent comp same with deadlift and his bench is in the top ten in the world inclusing bench specialists. He may be the first to ever do 1000lb deadlift in powerlifting raw. He does bodybuild and the 140lb hapthor outweighs him by isnt helping but he is a very strong dude in his own right.

    I see comments of people claiming Thor looks concerned or should be. Larry is one of the best in the world. He is a freak however he probably would not even make qualifiers in strongman. He lacks mass. For lifts like farmers, yoke, truck pull, etc he wouldn't survive. He has potential but he needs more size and can't be afraid to lose his physique.

    • @siberianTiger639
      @siberianTiger639 5 лет назад +7

      Not that much in mass as in sheere technique. He's just not used to these specific movements, and his body and some specific muscles arent that much activated in his regular bodybuilding training.

    • @ninjamonkey4777
      @ninjamonkey4777 5 лет назад +6

      Jure Primorac sure technique is a part of it but mass plays a huge role. There is hardly anyone who is successful in strongman under 300 pounds. The top guys are over 400. He DEFINITELY needs to add mass to be successful

    • @siberianTiger639
      @siberianTiger639 5 лет назад +2

      @@ninjamonkey4777 I agree, but I just wanted to pont out the technique, because every single strongman discipline requires specific mucles you maybe often dont train that hard in the gym with "regular" weights, machines etc. And just a specific way of lifting, pushing, pulling etc that looks simple when you look at experienced pro's (like that stone lift for example). Of course mass comes with it, you need energy and calories for all those excercisec, and he would naturally gain some mass if he went into strongman, but that shouldnt be the main focus imo. And it would be cool to see a smaller shredded guy outlifting bigger guys. Strongmen just dont care that much about extra fat or calories, but I just dont think they NEED to be THAT big to be that strong.

      @SCXX LXXD They look way more natural to me, than anything related to basic powerlifting etc. Sure, they round their back when lifting stones etc. but those movement patterns are wayyyy more ''natural'', than squatting with weights directly above your spine :D. Many kind of techniques to use, & more freedom of movement. Just like everyday physical chores.

    • @Vaginaattori
      @Vaginaattori 5 лет назад +8

      @SCXX LXXD Think about manual labor. There's countless ways to lift everyday objects. That's a stone here. You can use different techniques, that emphasize your strengths. Not that much room to squat a back squat. Low bar, high bar, wide stance, narrow stance. That's it. Bar's still on your back, & the movement will be fairly similar no matter who does it. These strongmen stuff allow more room for different kind of ROMs.

      If you were to take SHW Olympic lifters, powerlifters and Strongman competitors 200 years back in time, they would all be viewed as freaks, but the Strongman competitors would fare the best in the types of heavy lifts that farmers, lumberjacks, stevedores, etc. performed. Until the lack of food, steroids and (most importantly) antibiotics caught up with them one way or another, that is :-)

    • @liamshaver3
      @liamshaver3 5 лет назад +3

      Vaginaattori While they’re using more functional patterns of movement, the objectives seem to be designed to hurt the body. It definitely isn’t as natural to squat, or even bench press, but when the goal is to hoist a 300 pound stone within inches of your face with all of your momentum, there’s a much higher risk of injury.

    The one thing that concerns me a little, is that Larry probably has small hands compared to his competition. That giant dumbbell lift, to be successful on requires not only grip strength but the larger ones hands the more of an advantage they have.

    • @salahkarim7485
      @salahkarim7485 5 лет назад +1

      true but larry has a superstrong grip and he dosent even train it aside from the deadlift so that makes up for the lack of hand size

      @mikimiyazaki 5 лет назад

      @@salahkarim7485 i hope so. I'm a big Larry Wheels fan and I'd love to see him dominate in his upcoming amateur strongman event. He's got a pudzianowski build, but I'd like to see him gain alot of weight (even though it's not good for the body, especially the heart to pump that much blood to the muscles). Maybe like 350lbs in a year and a half. He's not at the point, size wise of diminishing gains because added weight, even if it's fat after carrying it around for a year will translate into more strength. Id bet that Larry with 30 lbs more fat and 20 lbs more muscle, given that he has time to acclimate would be significantly stronger than a 300 lb pure muscle Larry.

      Well to be fair, strength 'is' his comfort zone. He's merely trying out different types of way to utilize his strength. It's not like he's break-dancing, diving, riding a horse or playing chess.
      Of course, Larry is 'to be saluted' - but let's not kid ourselves! Whilst strongman / powerlifting / bodybuilding's different - it's all in the same ballpark. There's plenty of powerlifter who has the capacity to try out strongman and bodybuilding. Look at Ben Pollack who's tried out some bodybuilding recently. There's also plenty of Strongmen who's tried out powerlifting/bodybuilding. Thor's done a powerlifting meet, mariusz slimmed down to a bodybuilding-type physique, etc etc.
      Larry's an impressive MF. He's something we haven't seen before. But these are similar sports.
