It runs so slow that it basically not useable. But technically the developers emulated the whole x86 archtecture so that a software developed few decades ago can work flawlessly on it(except slow) , thats impressive!
It's handy for that rare task you might be doing once or twice per year. I wanted to flash my DVD-drive but the app that makes that process easier is windows only. If it worked for this kind of function it would be handy.
Thank you for this magic! The possibility of running Windows 7 on M1 Mac is just mind-blowing! But is there any chance (in theory) to improve emulation speed and responsiveness of apps significantly if, for example, some big companies like Parrallels come into play and invest countless man-hours in emulation efficiency?
I'm not expecting emulation speeds to improve if I were to be completely honest. Parallels will focus solely on virtualising ARM64 OSes using Apple's native hypervisor, so ARM linux distros and Windows 10 on ARM will be the main targets. Plus Windows 7 officially reached its end of life this year so its not recommended for regular use.
@@NobelTech Thanks for your answer. I was hoping for some greater emulation efficiency on Apple Silicon. Do you think it’s still reasonable to buy Intel MacBook Pro if I need running Windows 10 (not ARM) apps for work? As a developer, do you believe in the future of ARM Win and Mac OS, so that they become mainstream in the nearest future?
@@alex.maxwell If your primary aim is to use x86_64 apps, get the Intel MBP. These things will still be supported for a few years. And I think Windows 10 ARM will become a lot more mainstream if there's demand for it
Just this week installed Win 7 and Lubuntu with UTM on iPad Pro 11". Both work great in simple apps, but don't even try Win 10 or standart Ubuntu. Also there's a quest to install browser. I used pale moon, it worked well. Firefox or chrome are too heavy for this
What *program* is being used to emulate Intel-based Windows on the M1 Mac? I assume you can't just install the Intel version of Parallels and expect *that* to work, so what are you using? Oops, Edited to Add: UTM, huh? As long as there *is* something... I'll be wanting to emulate older (Intel) versions of MacOS as well, I assume it can do that?
Heya! I recently purchased iMac 24 inch model with M1 chip, purchased Parallels 17 and now stuck with Windows 11 for ARM, thats utterly useless. I do a lot of work in excel and other native windows software for which i cannot completely migrate to Mac OS. Does this UTM support full fledged excel and AutoCAD ?! Thanks!
I was wondering if there is a way to set up graphics on UTM. I've been trying to play Purble Place but it wont let me because of a lack of graphical rendering ability.
It seems the app doesn't propose the adjustment for the CPU speed param. I played around and could not understand where the 1 GHz comes from. Running Winows 7 with 1 GHz CPU... Useless! LOL!
Hey man, Really appreciate your videos! Is there a tutorial somewhere for this? I can only find windows 7 service pack iso, if I try to install that there is drivers missing and there is nowhere to install windows to.
@@NobelTech Thanks a lot! However even with the right windows file, It can't seem to find a drive to install windows to, any tips would be greatly appreciated!
That’s because it’s not being virtualised but emulated due to a different hardware platform . Emulation is generally much slower depending on the platform

Cool! Now, I wanna see it emulate Linux!
ARM64 Linux virtualisation has already been achieved which is pretty sweet honestly
Also, RasPiOS
@@NobelTech hey can you share the youtube link for that , i m not able to do so on my mac pro m1
where did you get the windows 7 iso?
The M1 emulates Windows 7 at the same speed my computer virtualizes Windows 7

merhaba, windows iso dosyasını nasıl indirdiniz? Ben orada kaldım!

how to get Aero
Can you tranfer files comparible from the virtual Windows to the mac side? What is that process? Thank you
Cool!
Great video!! can you make another video doing some other stuff with win7 using utm?
What more smother utm or vmware fusion
how did you download windows 7 on M1 ????
Hello, if you plan to virtualize a Linux system, show the CPU usage of the virtual machine.
Will UTM works on iPad Pro M1?
Thanks for the video! Have you tried to make better CPU params for the machine (more than 1 GHz)?

I just need to know how can I do this? Where are the steps?
How do you connect to internet in this?
Directory & drive sharing not working rest all os superb pls help as these 2 are major concerns for usability
Are there any additional drivers for the virtual machine to run aero?
Sadly no.
Can it emulate OS X Mavericks? I wanna see it run Mavericks.
@Brahma Sharma No mavericks

whats the point of giving a demo when we have no idea how to install it?
UTM is actually a user-friendly QEMU environment. Installing it is very similar to that of Virtualbox and VMware Fusion.
Wait a minute, thats actually usable
The x86 32 bit version of windows 7 doesn’t look like it’s running very fast on the Mac m1

The latest UTM builds have an issue with recognising internal drives so I can't comment on that yet until the problem is fixed.

most important part is definitely missing… prepare the vm and connect the iso for the first boot…. so basically a useless video sorry for that
Can it run a Geekbench 5 test? :D
