Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Strikes Gansu, China Dec. 18 2023 Compilation HD / 地震

On 18 December 2023 at 23:59 CST, an earthquake a magnitude of 5.9-6.2 struck Jishishan County in Gansu Province, China.[1] The shallow thrust faulting earthquake struck a densely populated area on the border between Gansu and Qinghai provinces. At least 127 people were killed, 734 injured and 20 people were missing in both provinces.

magnitude, isn't how strong the earthquake feels, so it can be a 5.9 but really deep, and no one will feel it, but a really shallow 5.9 and be felt extremely strong like this one.

Vivo en Chile y por mi experiencia ese terremoto no fue 5.9, sino 7.9.

Lo que pasa es que el sismo fue muy superficial (10km) por eso la intensidad con la que se sintió fue de VIII (8) y eso se ve en la verticalidad del movimiento (cerca del epicentro)

Estas confundiendo la magnitud con la escala Mercalli y tambien puedes tener esa percepción debido a que este sismo es de una profundidad de 10km y de una magnitud considerable por eso se siente mas que los sobre 7 en Chile ya que generalmente son de tipo subducción en cambio el de China fue intraplaca.

Yeah, some of those 127 people were killed when they were trying to run to the exits but tripped and fell or ran to the exits only to rush back inside to put something away. Others simply got trampled on by panicking people like a herd of bulls under distress. Why are people so stupid?
1. Stay calm, always.
2. Stay where you are until the shaking stops.
3. Get under a strong object like a table until the shaking stops.
4. Pray
