Last time I watched your shop video was over a year ago in my old office at a mortgage company, woodworking as my hobby. I was let go shortly after due to the recession and have been working a few part time jobs to pay the bills and selling some of my creations. I just started my official business a couple months ago and it's a brutal, rough start but I foresaw this. I'm hoping to reach a stage like this at some point whether it's five, ten or twenty years from now. I'm twenty-seven now and feel like I'm a newborn, a seedling in a large, unforgiving world. I hope to share my journey like you and hopefully inspire other's just the same!
I love that you have a fire cabinet! As a laboratory technician in a chemistry lab I really appreciate that! I love all of the attention that you paid to dust collection again, safety first! And I love that you have an exhaust fan in your soon to be paint area. Keep up the fantastic work!
What a fantastic shop you have, there is so many space and after all your hard work everything is well organised and smart placed. So many tools, perfect light, it's a stunning place now and You may be really proud for that!
Such and amazing space u created. Mind blowing u were able to afford this all from woodworking. I think Without RUclips this wouldn’t b possible. Keep up the good work dude!
Mold spray tends to have bleach in it at least the ones I use have. It's a powerful oxidizer so coming in contact with metal it would quickly rust it. So as long as the shop isn't moist that rust should be very surface level, so a soak in something like Evaporust or vinegar, coke, etc should do the trick to remove the rust. Sanding if possible too or a wire wheel. Love how the shop has come out thus far!
Once you get your CnC running, I’d consider making some access panel templates, this way you can fish electric under your raised floor. The cords on the floor are always trip or “stop-short”hazards.
The attic space is intense, if the joists installed up there are rated accordingly, this would be the place to put the office versus the 1st floor, opening up the 1st floor for more space to expand your business. What a cool space, so much work was done, really enjoyed the hyper finished area where you have your wall of tools hanging up, hopefully you can do that style throughout the rest of the shop in the future!
Hey Johnny, You've done a great job with your new shop! For the rust on the CNC, I would try naval jelly first. That stuff works wonders at removing surface rust of off different metals.
Wow. As a small business contractor who's tackling his own tiny house this year and dreams of a shop like this someday, this was genuinely one of the coolest videos I've seen. Cool footage, great commentary (not too wordy), and relaxing to watch. A sincere congrats on your success. I've got a new RUclips channel subscription now!
I added clear sight ports to my dust bcollector bins, in fact two ports allowing allow me to shine a flashlight in when checking on fill status so that I know when to change, your shop is well planned and one main feature in my opinion is how wide you have left all asiles/walkways this makes using the shop much more effective and pleasureable great job. Consider adding chiller to compressed air to keep air dry and oil free especially for paint spray and any cnc machines that need compressed air or if you use any air tools as this will extend their life. Hello Handyman Friend, As a professional firefighter and craftsman, I appreciate the measures you have taken for the chemical and hazardous products cabinet and also the ventilation system. For my chemical cabinet, it is stored in a single room with an automated self-extinguishing system and secure access, it's a bit like Fort Knox, but prevention is irrelevant. Bravo for your Workshop because well thought out and space to work there. Sincerely, Alain from Belgium.
If your looking for some wooden boards check your local printers as they'll probaly have lot as every new paper pallet has a wooden topper. I'm from the UK and I normally get 720mm by 640mm with most of the pallets.
Intresting love the new shop. suprised you didnt do a tour of the outside along with this. Did you not do a ton of work on the outside of this building as well? Grading, tree removal, gravel, and an awning? Cant wait to see projects going through this flow!!
The shop is looking fantastic, Johnny! Congrats! 😃 I just installed solar panels at home, this week! And I'm already loving it! 😂 You won't regret installing it! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I would recommend letting your Kreg machine live on the far right side of your table saw surface. That's where I have mine and it's perfect. You will use it way more than you will ever be ripping anything that wide on your table saw. Love the space BTW!
You should also take a look at the lift top table workbench that Denis built at Hooked on Wood. That was the first one I saw. I like it as I can use it as a workbench or outfeed table.
I have used both manual adjust and cnc adjust wide belts in school. They are nice and handy but really only if it makes sense to have one. The machine requires a good compressor to tension the belt and a good dust extractor. I wouldn't be surprised it it required 3 phase power. I personally would spend the extra to get a model with a cnc control panel.
@@jimrosson6702 If you received a comment that you "won" something, it's definitely a scam. Those are really common on RUclips unfortunately. Don't respond to them, and flag the comment as spam.
Have you considered, for the time being, putting in some attic ventilation to reduce the blanket sitting up there. Congratulations on the excellent work.
Great stuff! Love the new shop and following the renovation/build out. A couple of questions...1) Why didn't you do anything to the floor in the shop (epoxy, etc.)? 2) Do you plan to do anything to the exterior like paint? It's the neat freak/OCD in me!
My machine flow is set up amazingly similar to yours. I guess great minds think alike. Love your new shop and look forward to watching your future growth.
Looks amazing, and the lighting in the shop is such a day/night difference. Love seeing how this comes along! But I have to ask, big ass Crafted sign on the front of the shop when?? 😉
To insulate your attic, buy some cheap luan door skins miscuts (or whatever you can find; 1/8th 3mm will work), throw them on top of the joists and tape them with regular duct tape, then blow atticat in there. Done to R40, 50, 60, whatever you want for a few grand.
Q: I noticed you have a few mini-splits there, have you had any issues with them clogging up? I see other folks that build filter boxes around them to keep the dust out.
Looking great! I understand about the upstairs renovation being held off due to high costs. How about the exterior, painting soon? Or are there special plans in the works? Regardless, thanks for sharing.
Man, thats an awesome space. All the work you've done has really started to come together! Question though - when are you planning to give the exterior a good facelift? At a minimal a good sized 'Crafted' sign, right?
You might want to consider a new air system rather than refurbishing the existing compressors and tanks. I would start with a rotary- screw compressor, refrigerated-filter, and a new tank. A system like this produce clean, dry air, quietly. Companies like Kaeser make systems that will meet your needs. I would also recommend a ring main supply system.
I feel a strong need to inform you. Your desk has motors; motors are electrically driven. Engines use some form of thermal expansion to produce rotary work, examples are gasoline, propane, or steam.
The sanding belts on the drum sanders seem to be an issue with different brands as well. My son has a 36” Grizzley and he has the same issue. As for the wide belt sander he has a 36” wide which works well. But frankly he uses a stroke sander more than he uses the wide belt sander. it does require a more skilled operator however. He has recently upgraded that to an 8’ long model. Cabinets are his speciality, and he mostly builds the Euro model as opposed to the face frame model due the more competitive pricing. However that also requires an edgebanding machine.
I have mold in my shop, mostly because the floor leaks and I have that almost fixed, what kind of mold spray did you use and would your recommend it? The reason water leaks up through the floor, besides cracks in the concrete, is because of poor irrigation. I've been working on it for the past 2 years, as I need heavy rains to test what I did, and it seems to be mostly controlled. We have the same problem in our basement but no mold. That's only in the shop. Thank you for this great shop tour. It gave me some ideas for my hobby woodworking shop. God bless.
Dude. Found you from your full length new workshop video. Watched all of it and love it!! One thing I am really impressed with is the quality of your voice over audio. I don't see any lapel mic so assuming you're using a cam mounted shotgun? What you using and how do you get rid of all the echoing from the shop so well?! Either way, killer shop and so lovely to have all that space! Edit: WAIT I see the lavalier mic pack!...still don't see the mic tho. I'm baffled.
You have a yellow piece of flat bar with bends in it, I’m guessing to put full sheet on table easier. I noticed a label. Could you share 1. If you like and 2 do you use it and what brand name AMD where you got I would not even know how to google it thanks
Great workshop. I hope you have a fantastic security system installed to protect all your tools and the space. Of course don't show it on RUclips or ...
Weird question: where did you find the drawer inserts for your mechanics tool box? Been looking forward to this overview. Good video and love the quality.
Fortunately all of the sockets and stuff I have in there came with their own inserts as part of the packaging. Otherwise, I think something like Kaizan foam is a great option.
Have loved the series and I have one very minor complaint... I would have liked to see a full sized picture of the outside now that it is finished (you have used one for the thumbnail).

3:15 for the excess plywood leaning against the rack: consider isolating the plywood from the concrete so that it doesn't absorb ground moisture.
if you actually watch the video, you would know his plan with the plywood. you just want to sound smart.
Love your workshop….I wish I have a space like yours….well planned….
Thank you!
Have loved this series
Paint that piece of plywood above the dust collector closet

So much Powermatic stuff, one of my old fantasy dreams.

Sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
The shop looks great Johnny! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Spray the underside of roof with just 1 or 2 inches of closed cell to seal the roof. Then add thermofiber to get your r-value. Same with the walls.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". They're right there, in Johnny's workshop.

This video was a lot of fun to watch. Quick question: Is the dust collected in the barrel recyclable at all, or does it go into the trash?
Think about leaving 4 to 5 inch on the bottom for easy moving around with you electric pallet jack
Awesome! Have you thought about giving the outside a few coats of paint? Or are you planning to replace/upgrade the siding in the future?

To deal with the rust on the cnc: paper towels soaked in Evaporust and a Scotch Brite pad will get you back to good.

Anti-mold products typically contain acetic acid. If it gets on ferrous metals, you want to neutralize it with baking soda before you wipe it clean.
Thanks for the tour, Johnny.
You've done a lot in a realtively short time. Well done!
That front façade needs a sign/name! Start building the brand early (similar to what April Wilkerson did).
