I saw this book as a recommendation recently and got excited, because I also love MacBeth! What a bummer. I may still try it myself, because I’m not sure that I have the depth of knowledge that someone like you would have of the source material. We’ll see!
Also, I told you a while back that I’d let you know when I finished reading The Blue Book of Nebo in Welsh, and I have! It was just as brilliant. There are some turns of phrase she’ll use in her writing that differ in Welsh vs. English that were really interesting. Beyond that, the book is shorter in Welsh because she didn’t have the aspect of the story that dealt with the characters’ relationship to the Welsh language and their identity. Sometimes the tone felt more heavy in Welsh, and I don’t quite know why or how, but it was fascinating.
Anyway. Hopefully your next read will be better than this one! Ta!

As a story, yes, it's not bad but it was the Macbeth connection that I found hard to get my head around. Really interested to hear your thoughts about 'Blue Book' - thank you for keeping me in the loop.

You should review a Patricia McKillip book! I think her work might work well ❤

I don't know the play and didn't need to read Lady Magbeth in school. So....I am going to "have good time" THANKS I just wanted cancel the pick-up order but I will let it be for now. Good thing I can read it in the bookshop for a chapter or two and see if I like it at all. Maybe the writting will get on my nerves....

I went into it with all sort of pre-conceived ideas and lots of expectations which was the wrong way to approach it. I couldn’t see beyond my own ideas of Lady M

I vaguely remember reading Macbeth and still found that this really didn't hit for me. The modern feminist lens doesn't really fit in 11th century Scotland. And I found that the "all men are horrible and terrible except this one man that's also randomly a dragon" really ruined it a lot for me.

She certainly wasn't the Lady M that I was expecting. And yes, some parts of the story were quite different to the Macbeth that I had taught to my students.
