  • A quick video explaining how I tie my thread nocking points on a recurve bow.
    In this tutorial I use BCY Halo serving 0.019. www.bcyfibers.com/WhatsNewHalo....
    Usually I use the same colour serving as on the string so it looks a bit neater.

    This is by far the best, strongest and tightest string nock I have ever used. THANK YOU so much for sharing this trick with me!

    Worth 15 minutes of my time, just for the tip about the clove hitch to start the job. Many thanks George :-)

    Great little video, I hadn't thought of using a clove hitch at the beginning and was doing it exactly like a standard serving.
    Dont forget though to leave a bit more space for your nock as when the string is drawn back the space becomes less and the nocking points can nip the arrow :-)

    Nice! Start with 18” string, 3 winds + 7 back wind, then 3 and 5 on second layer.

    Will you make more videos? It was very good! I am going start with archery soon and these tips are very helpful! I'm getting a Samick Polaris Recurve bow towards the summer. Please do more beginner videos if you want, this one was good! Make both about the bow and how to shoot and maybe some good exercises! :D

    Blimey, I’ve just done this for the first time. You make it look easy. I had many attempts at making the loop and threading the end around only to find i had gone the wrong way! Still can’t quite work it out. What’s the rule?

    • @ArcheryGeorge
      @ArcheryGeorge  Год назад

      The rule is to keep wrapping the thread around in the same rotational direction, but change the linear direction. wrap the thread towards the start of the loop.

    all good but nobody shows a way of removing the old nock point first without damaging the string but there are 1000 ways of putting a new one on.

    • @bigwighair
      @bigwighair 10 лет назад +2

      Even if you mess up a little removing olds nock you wont damage your string but your 'string serving'. The serving protects the string from wear and tear and you can replace it yourself when thats worn out

    is the string for the noking the same as for the serving?

  • @michaeldelay600
    @michaeldelay600 Год назад

    Ok, the only thing I can't find on anyone's serving video is where do you put the serving string ? The center of the string? Or the handle? Or the bow? Or the arrow rest? And why do we do this? Will this interfere with string walking?

    • @typhoon2827
      @typhoon2827 Год назад

      It wants to go high enough up the string for your top finger (if you use split fingers ever) and low enough to allow your deepest crawl and to protect the string from where it might contact your bracer/armguard. It also must not go so high that the top end of the serving is in a position where it might be used as a 'rear sight', the judges should have something to say about it. Obvs the more serving you have, the heavier and slower the string; you might prefer the tune it gives, it might be more forgiving perhaps. Definitely worth trying a few different arrangements.

    A bit of a novice question. Is the first nock the top of bottom nock?

    • @ArcheryGeorge
      @ArcheryGeorge  5 лет назад +1

      Good question. The first knot should be the bottom of the top nock. When you're shooting the bow vertically this is where the arrow will naturally want to sit so I measure to that point.

    You mention that BCY make a specific nock tying thread, which they do. I don't recommend it. It is far too stiff and makes it very awkward to handle. Something like halo, or whatever you used for end servings, works much better.

      Thanks for sharing this information. I agree the serving material does an excellent job already.

    Novice alert!! We didn't see the bow square on the rest and I can't work out which nock point was the top and which was the bottom. My guess is the first one you tied is the bottom nock point?

    • @ChrizRockster
      @ChrizRockster 7 лет назад +2

      Its likely that he tied the top nocking point first as this is commonly the way its done.

    • @ArcheryGeorge
      @ArcheryGeorge  7 лет назад

      Hi Paul, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the feedback, ChrizRockster is correct, the top nocking point is tied first.

  • @eqlzr2
    @eqlzr2 5 лет назад

    The only knot that's necessary is the part that contacts the nock. The rest is hocus pocus. You don't need to tie a wrap that's 3/8's or more inches long when there's less than a millimeter that's actually required.

    • @ArcheryGeorge
      @ArcheryGeorge  5 лет назад

      Good luck with that.

      eqlzr2 As long as I know, longer ones tend to be harder to move than simple looped nocking points

  • @BennyCFD

    This isn't rocket science. Any suitable know large enough the keep the arrow nock from sliding on the string will work.

    • @ArcheryGeorge
      @ArcheryGeorge  5 лет назад

      You're right Benny this isn't even close to rocket science. I am always shocked when I see people with just one knocking point of a loose nocking point which is able to move.

      @@ArcheryGeorge so how do you adjust the nock height if needed?

    • @ArcheryGeorge
      @ArcheryGeorge  9 месяцев назад

      @@jetpilot555 you can use the bow square to nudge all the centre serving a bit if needed. I wouldn't recommend this too often as it will loosen the serving, causing it to move on its own. I used tape as a temporary nocking point to find the right position and then tied a permanent one on when I was happy with the position. In reality you probably won't see a lot of difference from moving the nocking point a couple of mm from the recommend position shown in the video. You would gain more points spending the time on bow drills.
