@Chase Carneson Good on Grant for the contact! This old guy from South Texas joined the UTA fan page on Facebook recently, and about an hour after I posted my thanks and congrats to the band for winning the 2021 Juno award, I got a "like" from Brittney Slayes, herself! Eeeeeeep! I squealed like a little school girl. LOL. In addition to their amazing talent, UTA sincerely appreciates their fans and I love that!
This is the closing track of the album. It’s beautiful when it stands on its own but so much better when listened to as part of the whole. The album tells a story from start to finish and the emotions of this track are felt far more strongly if you’ve gone on the full journey with this lead character.
This is the kind of album one does not simply shuffle. You sit down, and listen to the whole thing in order, in one sitting. You also list to Abyss right after. Fully and in order.
Bruce Dickinson smiles whenever he listens to Brittney's singing. Say if they come back playing in the UK, perhaps Chase can be their touring bassist 😎🎸
UTA is very engaged with their fans. Brittney has done interviews and reaction videos with some other RUclipsrs. It makes me very happy to see more musicians embrace RUclips. Floor Jansen has been more and more active on YT since the whole shutdown and her channel is so pleasant to watch.
Indeed. f Mr. Rock N Roll who also is "just" a very enthusiastic fan got Brittney on board regularly that easily, I'm sure an actual ex-touring musician with such insight will have no trouble getting bands he reacted to doing a live stream or interview with him. I mean if Grant already replied Brittney won't stay behind. And if asked neither will Floor ^^
Yes! Hey Chase, we need to have this happen, if at all possible. Brittney does most (all?) of the social media side of the band, so she'd be the one to react with / interview? Or your new buddy Grant, hehe. Awakening is the first track on the album, Apex is the last track.
The entire band is so humble and genuine. Brittney has actually reacted to reactions of her and the band before. She has even reacted with another reactor numerous times. That reactor is Mr. Rock N Roll. He's funny and the fact that Brittney was willing and humble enough to react to a few songs with him is such a great moment and thing to do for a fan. Some other great songs by them to check out is "Test Your Metal" and "General of the Dark Army" (but be aware that those two are not on the Apex album). If you're going to dive into Apex as a whole, it is worth noting that it is a concept album, so following the tracklist in order will help to tell the story better. This is the closing track on the album. "Awakening" is the opening track, which you already listened and reacted to. I believe the second song on the album after "Awakening" is "Shadow Guide", which is then followed by "The Matriarch". Looking forward to more reactions man. Thanks!
Right before COVID closed everything down, I took my daughter to see them play. Not only did they melt our faces, but, after the show they stayed and signed every autograph and smiled for every picture. They need and deserve to be famous. Every metal fan should buy all of their albums!!!
Every time I listen to this riff that starts at 9:37, I have to remind myself that this is not an Iron Maiden song. It reminds me so much of The Trooper and I love it!
Your loyal followers, like me, have been saying it from day one : Your reactions are great, you pick up on many things we missed before or just didn't realize. What better then hearing it from bandmembers themselves. Congrats! Are you finally starting to believe it?
@@tjbarke6086 I know, right? But then he talks about just putting in some work to learn that, like it's nothing. I often watch his reactions more then once.
I'm so ashamed of myself. I spent DECADES believing that this genre of music has nothing for me. Because as a wee sprocket the only kind of "Metal" that I knew exisred was VERY harsh on the ears of a girl who was used to Nana Mouskouri and Barry Manilow. There was no YOU to show me all this wonderful stuff! You are a University. What's delightful about UTA, they are CANADIAN!!! I had no idea they existed. And their music is so classy! Yes, I'm using "classy" for a Metal band!
Don't feel bad; I wrote off metal for a long time because the little bit I heard was always just harsh vocals over uninteresting guitar chug. I eventually got converted by Babymetal of all things, because the catchy melodies got me to give it a chance. Now I've seen tons of "metal" bands that still have melody and musicianship that fits my taste and I'm loving it. "Apex" by Unleash the Archers was one of the first metal albums I purchased and I have no regrets. Awesome album.
If it's any consolation, I've been into rock and punk for decades, and I still only found out about UTA about a year ago. It's unfortunate, but the genre tends to be summarized by people who don't listen to it as something like 'a bull moose in heat yells about Satan while someone tortures a guitar at random and throws a drum kit down a spiral staircase', which is about as accurate as thinking of country music as 'ultraconservative white male sings sadly about his pickup truck leaving him because it didn't love America enough'. If you haven't, you might want to check out Ghost - Dance Macabre, Powerwolf - Sanctified with Dynamite (live), Kamelot - Mindfall Remedy, and the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence. It's a decent range of styles in the genre and hopefully will give you a clearer idea of what parts you like. If you want to go a bit sillier, Gloryhammer by Gloryhammer is a fun song/video by another power metal band that doesn't take itself terribly seriously. Whatever you check out, take it as a chance to find something new you might love, not as a failure. There's too many gatekeepy assholes out there shaming people for not already liking something, instead of being excited to share, don't spend too much time kicking yourself *for* them. ;)
Love to hear that. Try these bands: Shaman ruclips.net/video/Xg_gOqZudKI/видео.html Rhapsody ruclips.net/video/mP7yHdfnlPI/видео.html Angra ruclips.net/video/b21ngTy-Xq0/видео.html Gamma Ray ruclips.net/video/3wqgOQYdh1w/видео.html Stay metal, my friend. |,,| |,,|
I grew up listening to Nana Mouskouri as my mum was a big fan. Her Christmas album is a classic and I still get sentimental when I inevitably put it on every year. Metal is one of the few remaining bastions of real musicianship and creativity. As for harshness on the ears, I've discovered that has to do with the recording quality as much as the music itself. Nana could probably yell into a trash bin and still sound like a song bird, but she was unique and special that way.
I watched this reaction about four hours after it was posted, and in the middle got a transmission from Grant T. (I follow him...not to Apex, though I would, but on Instagram), and had a short discussion about this communique you got, he says you have the best reactions he has ever seen. He watched this Apex reaction before I did. Go ahead and stick that feather in your cap you deserve it Mr. Carneson. May I suggest Northwest Passage from their recent EP? It has an interestingly fun video. Thanks.
For real???? That's amazing. Such a great feeling knowing the artists who created this masterpiece approves of the reaction. I think they're incredible and can't wait to do more.
@@ChaseCarneson Northwest Passage is orignally by Canadian folk singer (dear i say folk hero) Stan Rogers. Coincidentally (as far as i can tell) both Unleash the Archers and The Dreadnoughts released a cover of the song in 2019.
Yeah, I didn't either until I saw the two of them do an interview together. When talking about their influences they literally just broke in to a Maiden song (forget which one). Andrew just started playing one of the two guitar parts and Grant just picked right up with the other part. It was pretty cool to watch.
This closes the album, 'Awakening' is the opening track. From everything I have seen or read about UtA they are humble and hungry, I get no sense of them taking their opportunities for granted. For your own listening pleasure check out Brittney singing 'Queen of the Reich' at a karaoke bar after a gig, it's unreal how she sounds w/ out any engineering. Keep checking out the Apex album, it's fantastic storytelling.
I found this band thanks to you Chase. I was not a big fan of reactiom channels but I have discoveres two awesome bands with you: Unleash The Archers and Band Maid. They are the best. I have not heard the complete album but loved the song. Did someone notices that at 17:40 it sounds like Iron Maiden? I am not sure but I believe the trooper. Still awesome. Take care Chase. Big fan (of your channel :)).
UTA Twitch & Discord mod here :) Love your attention to detail Chase! Jacob Hansen is the engineer who mastered both Apex & Abyss. If you aren't familiar with his work, I would HIGHLY recommend that you go and listen to it. He has mastered records from Amaranthe, Volbeat, The Black Dahlia Murder, Epica, Delain, just to name a few. My favourite of his work, is the mastering of Mercenary's albums, in particular the Through Our Darkest Days album, as well as the album title single. He is a phenomenal mastering engineer!
Not in my wildest dreams have I hoped to experience my favourite track of this album together with you - made my day. Thanks mate, appreciate you lots.
I never ever comment (for obvious reasons) but I could not help myself. This band is phenomenal, every one of them. The vocalist blows my mind and obviously the reaction to this amazing song is top class. :-)
The genius in not just in their musical talent, its also in the story telling. Listen through the entire apex album in order while following along with the lyrics. This song concludes the album. The same story continues with Abyss. Its simply amazing. Great reaction vid!
I’ve said it in other comment sections. But this album is without a doubt one of the best Metal albums released in the past 5 years. I’m open to there being one better l, as I haven’t heard all of them, but I doubt it.
I hadn't heard a single note of UtA until just a few days ago, but what I've heard so far certainly brings a smile to my face. Uplifting metal in the vein of Maiden with a great lead singer; definitely something I will check out in more detail! Thanks for yet another great reaction/analysis, Chase!
Dude, your reaction videos have the effect of giving me a second first time listening to some of my favorite music. I think that makes sense...anyway, Cheers and just keep doing what you're doing.
The Drums tell so much of the story in this song. Each change and twist of the percussions symbolizes a shift in the tone of story and its done so beautifully in every UTA song
Yess!! Love this song! Thank you for the reaction as always and i'm hyped for the Apex album journey. You have so far seen Awakening, Apex and Cleanse the Bloodlines from the Apex album, Where to go next i'd suggest either False Walls, Ten Thousand Against One and Earth & Ashes. That's awesome Grant messaged you, I know Brittney watches a lot of reactions and even has done interviews with youtube reactors. The whole band are very humble and good people. The guitar riff at 11:03 is so much fun to play, so kickass!! I totally agree with you on the mixing, you can hear a massive difference in mixing quality from their last last album to Apex and I'm super glad to hear it continue for Abyss. Really hyped for the new album in August! New band suggestions for you in the Power Metal sphere are Powerwolf, they are a band who sing about religious wear-wolfs who fight demons the song I'd recommend is 'Fire & Forgive' Then there is Sabaton who sing about wars from history but also the unsung heroes that fought in them. A song I'd recommend is '82nd All The Way' Have fun ! I know I did lol.
You actually analyze every part of the song. Its fun to see newbs react and all, but it’s also really refreshing to see someone who REALLY knows their stuff delving into these masterpieces. Super appreciate what you’re doing here!
Chase, you smile at parts of their songs when I smile and I love that, because Unleash the Archers brings me joy. Pure unbridled joy. They invoke so many layers of emotion that very very very few examples of music can with me. From the "Anger and Power" of Cleanse the Bloodline, to the melancholy and thematic almost righteous rage of Apex, to the hope and wonder (and those words are in the lyrics) of Abyss, and every song on Apex and I'm sure Abyss has its special place in my life. I wish Brittney, Scott, Grant, and Andrew and Nikko too (as I know he was a key component in Apex) all very long and healthy and happy lives, because they help me with mine, and they don't even know it.
i might have already said something like this, but i love your reactions so much because of what i learn about the songs from listening to you. not only have i heard most of them dozens of times (this is my favorite UTA song so it's not uncommon for me to play it on repeat) but i'm a musician as well so i think i have a pretty decent appreciation for the musicality and technicality of the songs, and still, you always point out something i hadn't heard or considered before. your reactions actually make me enjoy each song more no matter how much i already loved it, so thank you for that.
Hi, Chase. I am 38 years old. I love Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal is my life :). I just want to thank you for your reactions to Unleash The Archers. Your comments is great. I like your work. Keep up the great work :-).
It closes the album rather than opens it but what a finale! Really glad you're still along for the UTA ride as there's a lot of songs that are worth listening to and would look forward to benefitting from your usual stellar commentary on them. I'd be interested to see your reaction to their cover of "Northwest Passage" particularly but there are no shortage of their songs that deserve attention.
Haha the look on your face when they went almost acoustic instead of fast. Great reaction Britney just kills it with the vocals and the rest of the band with their musicality. Love this guy. Great Canadian band makes me proud to live in Canada.
Awakening is the album opener, and Apex is the closer. This is my favourite song by them. So well written. I can't go a day without listening to it 🤘🇨🇦 Check out their song Time Stands Still(official video)
Yes yes yes yes! This is my favorite song from my favorite album I'm so glad you took at look at it! Both Abyss (new album coming out) and Apex were recorded and mixed in Denmark with Jacob Hansen, so if you ever meet him you owe him a beer!
Chase I think you get so much love because your adoration of music is written in your reactions. This is truly your passion, finding new music, breaking it down and appreciating every piece of it as an individual and then putting it back together with a better understanding and appreciation. On top of that your fan interaction, and your humble attitude is just so awesome. I’ve watch many react channels but yours is the only one I subscribe to, proud member of the Nightwish Army since 05, I don’t know how I lucked into hearing a band like Nightwish on Rock 100.5 the Katt in Oklahoma back then, but Wish I had an angel in my 87 Crx with speakers bigger than my tires 3 inches behind my head gave me goosebumps so hard my Mohawk stood on end without and gel. Nightwish brought me to your channel as it has with many of your fans. But I look forward to your videos daily. Not a lot of Oklahoman’s with any idea who these bands are but I try to highlight reel them to get them hooked, UTA is one band I crank in my shop and always have guys asking me, “who are they”. I would love to see your reaction to Feuerschwanz Ding with Melissa Bonny if you haven’t done it. Sorry for the long comment. You rock man.
Please don't be sorry at ALL. This really means a lot. Thank you for taking the time to write it, very kind of you. Really grateful for all the support. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a look. Have A Damn Good Day, Nicholas.
Watching this reaction I got a real appreciation for the song structure with back to back build-ups, back to back choruses, back to back solos, and then a chorus and breakdown to finish. They catch you with that first one where you think it's getting heavier which sparks interest but it also foreshadows when it happens at the end. It feels like this song has its own rules which are easy enough to figure out by the end but interesting enough to not feel forced or contrived.
I've always thought of both Iron maiden and early Foo fighters throughout this song. The main galloping riff sounds very Iron maiden like while the lyrics that pair with the following part just reminds me somehow of foo fighters. It's hard to describe but that's what it reminded me of
One of my favorite songs of the album that I have seen maybe one reaction to is False Walls. This is where Brittany's story telling and UTA's love of classic metal shine in total brilliance! This band has amazing depth and this song is pure listening bliss. I really hope you get to that one!!!
You will never regret seeing UtA in concert. Such great music delivered with charisma and connection...they are AWESOME. This is the ending track, if you listen to the album start to finish it fits perfectly. This song is the return of the protagonist to his sanctuary of sorts after the events of the songs before. Britney Slayes has a song by song lyric interpretation video (videos?) through Napalm. It's a great story.
Your reactions are really the best. You explain things i´ve never notice. Your work is much more valluable to a band fan like me than the other youtube reactions videos. And it makes me wanna view all your videos on the other bands, to discover the details in all of them. Thanks for your work.
I gave this a 'like' before the video started. Such a great song. It's the closing track on the album. ETA: congrats on getting compliments from Grant. Well deserved.
I'm a little late coming into this, but, I flippin love when he gets excited by something in the songs. He gets that big smile and stops "reacting" for a second and just enjoys the song. I'm convinced now that the pausing is happening because he remembers he's supposed to be reacting and taking about the song. Great videos man, sub from me.
Hi Chase, great Reaction as always. Your channel definitely climbed the Top for me. Always excited when I come home from work and your new video is up. The Song Apex is the closer for the Last Album. And because that album is a concept Album it closes the first half of a Story which Abyss is picking up as the first Song from their next concept Album and the second half of that Story. In Apex the Immortal goes back to sleep in his Mountain and in Abyss he wakes up, roughly 50 years later, in a Spaceship far away from his Mountain and his familiar surroundings. :-)
Apex is one of my favorite metal albums of all time. Call me immortal, cowards way and false walls are another few of my favorites that i think you would love to listen to. Really digging the reaction videos!!
Ohhh this is my favorite music by them, awesome choice! :) And they are awesome with fans, Britney herself has reacted to videos like yours of people reacting to them, she liked a reactor in particular and then gave him a shot at a interview, and both of them seem to be great friends now and have made some reactions to videos together, she's a lovely person.
Its awesome seeing bands interact with the RUclips reaction community. Reactors do a good job of getting music out to a wider range of people who might not have given a certain style of music a listen. Great work as always Chase!
Once again, thanks for the detailed reaction. Greatly appreciate that you are able to explain to the common person the intricate details regarding the composition, engineering, and skills. Like others have said, Apex, the album, is one of the best metal albums of the past decade. So melodic, so many riffs, so many ideas, they could have saved a lot for another album. Each band member is allowed to express their virtuosity. The album struck me like Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Queensryche's Empire, Megadeth's Rust in Peace. Top notch!
Chase your reactions really are the best. The album tells a story and should be listened to in order. Keep up the great work. I am glad you found Nightwish and Unleash the Archers!
Through Stars on Abyss is another one without a video but that feels really important to the whole Apex - Abyss story. As one of the comments says, it grows on you like a metal fungus. It's true. Would love to hear your thoughts on that one.
@@ChaseCarneson I played drums for over 55 years before I had to stop for medical reasons. At my best, when I was young, healthy, playing in a band and practicing constantly, I don't think I could put together a cover of the drum part on this song. Back then the double bass was rare, but even so. This guy is really good.
Love your reactions. Apex is probably the best metal album of the past several years IMO. You really could do the whole album song by song. You’ve already done Awakening (the opener), Apex (the closer), and Cleanse the Bloodlines... every song is at least a 7/10, but other 10/10s for me are Shadow Guide, The Matriarch, and The Coward’s Way. Thanks for your awesome videos. You draw out lots of cool things to appreciate in these songs. Even as a longtime fan I always discover some interesting nuance when you do a video.
UTA is probably one of the most active band on RUclips when it comes to reactions. They do interviews, and Brittney has actually joined a couple reactors when they did a UTA video. Putting that work in! You have to check out the live acoustic version of this song, it sounds so different /watch?v=wRP9Hkz9qHQ
Awakening is the opening song for the concept album about an ancient being, leaving to complete a task. Apex is the closing piece as he finally returns to the mountain to rest his body for a thousand years. Abyss is him waking again, but finds himself not in his mountain, but deep in the depths of space and taking a liking to the experience
I think the best thing about the Apex album is after listening to it once or twice and getting an understanding of the story they're telling then going back and getting to hear things they put in to the actual compositions of the songs that further tell that story. I am so hype for Abyss in august.
I'm pretty sure I'm the same way. I think I somehow found Tonight We Ride through RUclips but I have no recollection of what that path was it was so long ago.
@@mn6334 funnily enough it was seeing mr rock'n'roll react to awakening that introduced me to Uta first vid of his I ever saw. I then found jinjer and nightwish through his vids. This has led me to chase's reactions. Mr rock'n'roll is entertaining to watch but chase has made me appreciate the music more. Both are worth watching! also uta and nightwish seem to have parked themselves in my head. I keep finding myself humming their songs when I'm distracted. It's a little disconcerting 😱🤣
In reference to the comments from Grant: I love how they stay in contact with their fans. Two weeks ago there was a live premiere from the song soulbound and Brittney and Grant were actually in the chat responding to a few questions. I asked her what's her favorite song she sang herself and if I am not completely mistaken she responded she loves to sing Dreamcrusher. So maybe you'd like to give it a shot on your own! And man this is now the last of your UTA reaction videos I need to watch and I am looking forward for the next ones!
Gotta love unleash the archers they are an amazing band that always bring a insane amount of love to the fans (its the Canadian blood in them :P) as usual amazing reaction and glad to see you learning more about the band. i feel like you would love Ayeron. i wont spoil any but The day that the world breaks down includes some of metals greatest singers in the song i wana say its around 12 of them but i never have counted lol
Apex is the last song on this album while Awakening is the opening track. The whole album tells the story of “The Immortal.” This really is such a beautiful album. My personal favorites on this album is Ten Thousand Against One and Earth And Ashes. I too can not wait for the new album! Great reaction video. 😊
Finally reacting to my fave UTA song, and as expected making me appreciate it more after that analysis. For a similar masterfully crafted epic journey of a song, give Wintersun - Sons of Winter And Stars - Live rehearsal @ Sonic Pump Studios a listen. If you're looking for more interesting use of delay I'd highly recommend Ewan Dobson - Time 2, as well as Rob Scallon - Rain
Now that your attention has been grabbed by other members of the band besides Brittany (who does get the most public love, deservedly so), I recommend reading up on the history of the band, which I find fascinating. Their first 2 albums featured only one guitar player who was also the lead songwriter. But he left the band after the second album, and was replaced by not one, but two guitarists, Grant and Andrew, who now do all the songwriting (with Brittany writing the lyrics). Not surprisingly, to me they sound like 2 different bands. Be aware of this if you do a reaction of, say, General of the Dark Army, which is a favorite of many from their 2nd album. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this from OG fans, but to me their first 2 albums sound more like Just Another Metal Band, while their last 2 really shine and stand out as something special that rises above most everything else out there today. What I find fascinating is how such a fundamental shakeup of the band not only didn't result in it's downfall, but actually allowed it to come out stronger IMO. The songwriting is now top-notch and worthy of world wild acclaim IMO. I love Brittany to death like everybody else (and I get the sense that the band only survived due to the sheer grit and determination of her and Scot, the drummer), but I consider the true heroes of this group to be Grant and Andrew. I just can't wait to see what music they all write together in the future...
I see what you mean about the first 2 albums. Here's my take on their discography: Behold the Devastation never really drew me in. Demons of the Astrowaste I really like although it took some time. Time Stands Still is great front to back. Apex is my favorite. The EP is awesome. Abyss is next level ⬆️.
FUCK YEAH! its my absolute favorite song by them! i've never seen anyone react to this one before. loved your reaction, enthusiasm, and your analysis is interesting, even tough i heard it a million times you tend to notice things that make it that much better!
Ive just run through a bunch of your reactions and love it! you are the only person who already has reactions to the bands/songs i would ask for. You also clearly have a great feel and understanding for music and its awesome. The only band i havent seen from you is Allegaeon. I found Allegaeon when Brittney mentioned she was excited for their album proponent for sentience to come out. Both are now two of my favorite bands and i hope that you check them out! Two songs for consideration are Threshold of perception. or Tsunami and Submegence. Peace out always enjoy the reactions :)
It’s interesting, this is actually the closing song of the album, and I do quite like it as the closer, but I agree it would be a great as an opener too. Actually you’ve already done the opening song of the album, Awakening :) both songs are absolutely killer, amazing bookends to one of the best albums of the decade, 2 masterpieces of power metal Side note this is my favorite song on the album, it’s so hard to pick just one but this song is SUCH a journey. Awakening is amazing, but it’s just nonstop blast you in the face energy. This has so many ups and downs and really beautiful parts as well as very high energy portions and incredible solos that stay true to the melody of the song and then to cap it all off bringing it down in the end for that haunting finish. It’s a perfect song
Love your musical knowledge, you explain the details so well, would love to continue to hear from all of their stuff as UTA has become my favorite band (although im biased being from Vancouver lol)
Great video, as always! As other folks have noted, this is the last song on the album. That's where the "Something is coming, coming for me" at the end was a helluva tease that the next album or a later album would continue the story, as we now know from band statements the new album is taking them "Out of Apex" and "Into the Abyss". When you're done, I recommend listening to the album from start to finish with the lyrics to really grasp the story, as a prep for Abyss. You've done Awakening (Opening tracking, The Immortal introduced) and Cleanse the Bloodlines (Song 4, reveal of the central plot element of the Matriarch asking for her sons to be captured for her ritual), and now Apex (Final Track, Epilogue). My recommendations for the rest of Apex, in order: The Matriarch (Track 3, important character backstory to "Cleanse the Bloodlines, and just an absolute banger). Earth and Ashes (Track 8) or False Walls (Track 6) - Just very unique in terms of the rest of the album, and really fit the atmosphere of the story they're telling well. Ten Thousand Against One Call Me Immortal The Coward's Way & Shadow Guide. In terms of their prior albums, Dawn of Ages from Demons of the Astrowaste and Test your Metal and Time Stands Still from the Time Stand Still Albums are incredible. Dreamcrusher from the latter album as well just has some soul-jarring moments you can't help but be swept away by.
Great reaction Chase! I have only recently been listening to UtA and have been loving the Apex album. On a side note, you should add Wintersun - Suns of Winter and Stars to your list. Make sure its the live version though! Keep up the great work.
A very perceptive ear indeed, I think when you noted she is maturing, you really hit it head on. Every level of the composition, she shows incredible awareness
thanks FFS finally a reaction video to apex :) expect me on any UTA reaction you make.. and if you plan on running through the album you should totally check the „Unleash the Archers Apex Track-by-Track“ explanation by Brittney since it‘s a full story concept album.. makes you enjoy it even more
I think a piece like this, where she pulls back a little, really shows off how rich her voice is. I hope you get to do an interview or reaction with her--if Grant contacted you, seems like the door is open!
This is the type of song when you hear it you just cant help but imagine yourself singing it to a massive crowd! Also we need a Northwest Passage reaction it's so good!
Having just done a full listen-through of the album myself recently, I'd actually recommend going in order of the tracks on the album if you can, for the tracks you haven't already reacted to: 1) Awakening 2) Shadow Guide 3) The Matriarch 4) Cleanse The Bloodlines 5) The Coward's Way 6) False Walls 7) Ten Thousand Against One 8) Earth And Ashes 9) Call Me Immortal 10) Apex Brittney has (a pair, I think) video out there where she goes through what each track is, as far as the story of the album and def take her word over mine, but the overall idea as I understand it is the Immortal being summoned and waking, meeting the Shadow Guide (the same hawk we see the Matriarch carrying in Cleanse the Bloodlines) and following it to his new master. Track 3 introduces the Matriarch who summoned him, Cleanse is her order for him to hunt down her sons and drag them back to be sacrificed. Tracks 5-8 are each dedicated to the confrontation between the Immortal and one of the sons, the last of whom is essentially a decent person and the only one who comes quietly. The last two tracks are the Immortal trying to come to grips with the aftermath of the actions he was forced to take, and then returning to Apex, the mountain where he sleeps until he is summoned again. Apex actually foreshadows Abyss a bit, not only with the last line that something is coming for him, but also : "And now the dreams will come Lucid freedom takes me To a world no longer run by the laws of relativity Fly out beyond the stars Where the wind takes me away And leads me through the dark Defying gravity" Love your channel, btw. Great stuff, very articulate and well analyzed as well as clearly enjoying it without lapsing into 140 decibel hyperbole every 20 seconds (which seems to be the norm for a lot of reactors). I know you've apologized for pausing 'too much' in past videos, but I definitely think you've got the right balance, and you've got something worth hearing to say when you pause. If I want to hear the track without interruptions I can do that somewhere else, it's not what I'm here for. =)
They were supposed to play Bloodstock this year, looks like that's been postponed until 2021. Hopefully there'll be a few dates where they play a full gig to go with it.
Yeah out of all the reactors that I follow here on youtube, you are my favorite as you comment on EVERYTHING. Not like the voice "teachers" or "Coaches" that pick apart the lead and ignore the rest of the band. Keep kicking A$$ and I will continue to follow.
She also has a few videos that explain the story song by song. Its really enthralling to listen to when you know the full story behind it all!
you could say this song is the... Apex of the whole album?
This is the kind of album one does not simply shuffle. You sit down, and listen to the whole thing in order, in one sitting. You also list to Abyss right after. Fully and in order.
@@Jalabhar_Xho exactly
I can’t listen to this song without listening to “Call Me Immortal”, first. To me, they are one song. Lol.
Bruce Dickinson smiles whenever he listens to Brittney's singing.
Say if they come back playing in the UK, perhaps Chase can be their touring bassist 😎🎸
Sign me up 🙋🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️
UTA is very engaged with their fans.
Actually the way Chase gives such great comment on composition & instrumentals it would be awesome having Tuomas on here or at least Marco.
@@embran8486 What a great idea, who wouldn't love that? Maybe Chase himself ?
Yes! Hey Chase, we need to have this happen, if at all possible.
Brittney does most (all?) of the social media side of the band, so she'd be the one to react with / interview? Or your new buddy Grant, hehe.
Awakening is the first track on the album, Apex is the last track.
Yeah but the abyss song is step back...
Thanks!
I totally second both those song choices, those are my top two from UTA
Test your Metal is my alarm
I love watching Britney react with Mr rock n roll. Too funny! Definitely would love to see Test Your Metal as well! :)
Mr. Rock N Roll is one of the most satisfying people to watch getting hyped listening to songs x3.
His reactions are great because he's actually knowledgeable. Like a music teacher.
@@tjbarke6086 If I have had a music teacher like him back in school, I most certainly would have actually listened... 😁
@@tjbarke6086 I know, right? But then he talks about just putting in some work to learn that, like it's nothing. I often watch his reactions more then once.
He doesn't do reactions. He does do analysis :o)

i am a big fan of this band. They are so authentic and make fabulous songs. Thanks for your great comments !
Grtz from Belgium !
another GREAT! reactioN! how did i miss this!....
Easily one of my favourite songs by them! Happy to see this reaction!
Yes, I'm using "classy" for a Metal band!
i love hearing this kind of story! metal has so much more to offer than many people realize, it really is an incredible genre.
Try these bands:

Stay metal, my friend.
Re: the guitarists "handing" leads over to one another: Grant and Andrew have played together on and off since they were 12.
Goddamn. I knew they were in a band together or something before UtA but i didnt realize its been so long
Yeah, I didn't either until I saw the two of them do an interview together. When talking about their influences they literally just broke in to a Maiden song (forget which one). Andrew just started playing one of the two guitar parts and Grant just picked right up with the other part. It was pretty cool to watch.
They are very interactive with their fans. I envy your luck, chances are he dropped you a hint at their next big tour.
I love this song and I never noticed that backing vocal in the chorus before. You are in every detail man!
I try to be. Can't catch it all but having loads of fun with it.
'scuse me, there's an official UTA Discord? brb, need to go subscribe to something.
Not in my wildest dreams have I hoped to experience my favourite track of this album together with you - made my day. Thanks mate, appreciate you lots.
Glad you enjoyed it sir. Lots more to come.
I never ever comment (for obvious reasons) but I could not help myself. This band is phenomenal, every one of them. The vocalist blows my mind and obviously the reaction to this amazing song is top class. :-)
The obvious reasons are escaping me. Why don't you comment lol? Yes UTA is awesome!
The genius in not just in their musical talent, its also in the story telling. Listen through the entire apex album in order while following along with the lyrics. This song concludes the album. The same story continues with Abyss. Its simply amazing. Great reaction vid!
What sets them apart is how clearly the lyrics paint a story, and how rich Brittany’s vocal delivery is. The story just unfolds as you listen
Nice comment from Grant! I'm so excited for the new album. Keep up the great videos Chase!
eta: This song closes the album, Awakening is the opener.
I’ve said it in other comment sections. But this album is without a doubt one of the best Metal albums released in the past 5 years. I’m open to there being one better l, as I haven’t heard all of them, but I doubt it.
I am going to go a bit farther and place Apex on my top five all time...and I am an old azz gen-x metalhead.
I agree and I am also a metalhead for a long long time. I would add Symphonny X as an equally worthy band to listen.
@@Hy-jg8ow Oooohhh The Odyssey is an excellent album!! So is the rest of their catalog!
There is an acoustic version of this song on Canadian morning Show and Scott absolutely kills it,best drumming on a morning Show you'll ever see

New band suggestions for you in the Power Metal sphere are Powerwolf, they are a band who sing about religious wear-wolfs who fight demons the song I'd recommend is 'Fire & Forgive'
Then there is Sabaton who sing about wars from history but also the unsung heroes that fought in them. A song I'd recommend is '82nd All The Way'
Have fun ! I know I did lol.
You actually analyze every part of the song. Its fun to see newbs react and all, but it’s also really refreshing to see someone who REALLY knows their stuff delving into these masterpieces. Super appreciate what you’re doing here!
I do my best. Just glad you're enjoying the videos.
Couldn't agree more. Love this band. More UTA this weekend.
i might have already said something like this, but i love your reactions so much because of what i learn about the songs from listening to you. not only have i heard most of them dozens of times (this is my favorite UTA song so it's not uncommon for me to play it on repeat) but i'm a musician as well so i think i have a pretty decent appreciation for the musicality and technicality of the songs, and still, you always point out something i hadn't heard or considered before. your reactions actually make me enjoy each song more no matter how much i already loved it, so thank you for that.
Thank you soooo much for this.
welcome to the army!
Hi, Chase. I am 38 years old. I love Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal is my life :). I just want to thank you for your reactions to Unleash The Archers. Your comments is great. I like your work. Keep up the great work :-).
UTA is one of the most down to earth, friendly bands out there, every member is so nice! Excellent artists to boot! Favorite band status.
I just got this album in the mail from Amazon. I can’t wait to jam to this !! Great reaction!
They wear their Iron Maiden-loving hearts on their sleeves, and Brittney channels early Heart in her vocals. 🤘🌶️🔥
Every time Heart is mentioned with her....it just makes me smile. So very Ann Wilson in the intro here.
@@mikesacklyn2372 Definitely.
Well said INDEED !!!
If only Ann Wilson would sing for Dragonforce
Heart's Dream of the Archer has finally been unleashed.
Awakening is the album opener, and Apex is the closer. This is my favourite song by them. So well written. I can't go a day without listening to it 🤘🇨🇦
Check out their song Time Stands Still(official video)
I'm always happy to see you in my subscription box. I discovered UTA alongside you and i've been loving it! Keep it up!
Favorite reactions on RUclips man. Keep it up!
Imagine listening to this
fucking
song
for the first time.
Love your genuine reaction when you cant hold back the smile. This is by far my favorit song from that album
Definitely one of my favourites.
Thank you for you support. Really appreciate this and super glad you're enjoying them. There's lots more to come .
I gave this a 'like' before the video started. Such a great song. It's the closing track on the album.
ETA: congrats on getting compliments from Grant. Well deserved.
Way more than just reaction videos, love em 😁 Keep up the awesome work!
Great reaction! Unleash The Archers are great! Can't wait to hear their new album!!
If you ever do merch...I think you need a tshit saying "Proper Goosebumps" I love it.
Got something special coming soon.
Apex is one of my favorite metal albums of all time. Call me immortal, cowards way and false walls are another few of my favorites that i think you would love to listen to. Really digging the reaction videos!!
Ohhh this is my favorite music by them, awesome choice! :)
And they are awesome with fans, Britney herself has reacted to videos like yours of people reacting to them, she liked a reactor in particular and then gave him a shot at a interview, and both of them seem to be great friends now and have made some reactions to videos together, she's a lovely person.
The Matriarch from UTA is one that sticks in my head all the time. An all time favorite.
"Awakening" is the opening to this album, and "Apex" closes it out. Both outstanding songs.
Seeing them live is a huge treat. Highly recommend it. I will definitely be seeing them again just as soon as I can.
Its awesome seeing bands interact with the RUclips reaction community. Reactors do a good job of getting music out to a wider range of people who might not have given a certain style of music a listen. Great work as always Chase!
Thanks Jeremy, appreciate the comment and support.
Top notch!
dude, amazing breakdown as always!
Chase, I agree. Wow!!!! Great reaction.
Thank you, Mike.
That video is so fun, watched loads of times before and can't help but laugh at the end xD
It's adorable how much you enjoy this! :D Keep it up!! =)
I think the best thing about the Apex album is after listening to it once or twice and getting an understanding of the story they're telling then going back and getting to hear things they put in to the actual compositions of the songs that further tell that story.
I am so hype for Abyss in august.
Forgot how I discovered this band, but I know I don't regret it! Just like me discovering your amazing channel! Keep up your great work! :)
I'm pretty sure I'm the same way. I think I somehow found Tonight We Ride through RUclips but I have no recollection of what that path was it was so long ago.
I do know, however, that Awakening lead me directly into Jinjer and Nightwish so those three bands will always be together in my head.
The definition of 'understatement'. That was good.
Ha. "My buddy Grant" funny AF.
If you're looking for more interesting use of delay I'd highly recommend Ewan Dobson - Time 2, as well as Rob Scallon - Rain
this is a great tune and it's awesome you did a reaction to it!
Here's my take on their discography:
Behold the Devastation never really drew me in.
Actually you’ve already done the opening song of the album, Awakening :) both songs are absolutely killer, amazing bookends to one of the best albums of the decade, 2 masterpieces of power metal
Side note this is my favorite song on the album, it’s so hard to pick just one but this song is SUCH a journey.
I'm so blown away by these guys. They just can't miss.
loved it! I really like how the video made!
My recommendations for the rest of Apex, in order:
The Matriarch (Track 3, important character backstory to "Cleanse the Bloodlines, and just an absolute banger).
Earth and Ashes (Track 8) or False Walls (Track 6) - Just very unique in terms of the rest of the album, and really fit the atmosphere of the story they're telling well.
Ten Thousand Against One
Call Me Immortal
The Coward's Way & Shadow Guide.
Every level of the composition, she shows incredible awareness
thanks FFS finally a reaction video to apex :) expect me on any UTA reaction you make.. and if you plan on running through the album you should totally check the „Unleash the Archers Apex Track-by-Track“ explanation by Brittney since it‘s a full story concept album.. makes you enjoy it even more
This one is my top5 song's from UTA. I'm glad you chose this piece
I've been listening to the album Apex all week. So good.
The album is a masterpiece, and this is my favourite track on it! 🤘
You are not alone🤘🏼
I think a piece like this, where she pulls back a little, really shows off how rich her voice is. I hope you get to do an interview or reaction with her--if Grant contacted you, seems like the door is open!
This is the type of song when you hear it you just cant help but imagine yourself singing it to a massive crowd! Also we need a Northwest Passage reaction it's so good!
Completely agree!!!!
I do hope they do come to UK after this is all done. I was broke last time they toured here and missed it.
Love this song, good job.👍
Having just done a full listen-through of the album myself recently, I'd actually recommend going in order of the tracks on the album if you can, for the tracks you haven't already reacted to:
1) Awakening
2) Shadow Guide
3) The Matriarch
4) Cleanse The Bloodlines
5) The Coward's Way
6) False Walls
7) Ten Thousand Against One
8) Earth And Ashes
9) Call Me Immortal
10) Apex
Brittney has (a pair, I think) video out there where she goes through what each track is, as far as the story of the album and def take her word over mine, but the overall idea as I understand it is the Immortal being summoned and waking, meeting the Shadow Guide (the same hawk we see the Matriarch carrying in Cleanse the Bloodlines) and following it to his new master. Apex actually foreshadows Abyss a bit, not only with the last line that something is coming for him, but also :
"And now the dreams will come
Lucid freedom takes me
To a world no longer run by the laws of relativity
Fly out beyond the stars
Where the wind takes me away
And leads me through the dark
Defying gravity"
Love your channel, btw.
“O Canada! The True North strong and free!" *in Brittney Hayes voice*
She/they did: Northwest Passage, the better national anthem!
Yeah out of all the reactors that I follow here on youtube, you are my favorite as you comment on EVERYTHING. Not like the voice "teachers" or "Coaches" that pick apart the lead and ignore the rest of the band. Keep kicking A$$ and I will continue to follow.
Thanks you sooo much for this. Made me really happy reading this, thank you for taking the time to write this.
