    She must have been so scared, psycho stalkers are never deterred by restraining orders. His obsessed, delusional mind wasn't going to let her go. @@VestaVisions I agree and a legal change that should be considered would be to allow lethal force as a valid self-defense when a person with a restraining order appears uninvited at the victim's residence, place of work or some other private venue, or confronts the victim in public or private. Another change would be to expedite pistol permits to victims with restraining orders against a stalker. Then, perhaps restraining orders will become meaningful.

    • @flyoverkid55
      @flyoverkid55 Год назад +6

      @@jimcronin2043 In fact, lethal force is " allowed " under circumstances that present a threat involving that level of response, it has no bearing on protection orders. Most states that have a concealed carry law in place, or Constitutional [ permitless ] carry, will expedite that process as needed. It is incumbent upon the potential victim to act in their own behalf, police can't act until a crime has been committed, and even then they aren't likely to be cruising your street when trouble occurs.

      @@flyoverkid55 Although I don't disbelieve you, I find it surprising that a stalking victim would be exonerated based on self-defense if the stalker showed up at the front door and the victim started blasting. I suppose that it depends on the state. In my state (NY) I just don't believe that you can do that, especially w/o documentation. That is where the restraining order is useful. It is a judge's acknowledgement that the victim is under a threat.

    • @gozorak
      @gozorak Год назад

      @@jimcronin2043 Legally justified use of deadly force is permitted only in the most limited of circumstances. There must be an imminent threat from an aggressor(not a potential threat) in which the victim reasonably believes her or his life is in jeopardy. There can be some gray area in regards to what would qualify as a reasonable belief that ones life is in jeopardy as well as the imminence of that threat if its a stalker who has made documented violent threats in the past. That would be up to a prosecutor to decide. My sympathies are all for stalking victims. I would be curious about case histories involving victims of stalking actually using deadly force against a known, documented, stalker in which an imminent threat from the stalker was determined to not be present.

    I had a male friend do that to me. I also live in Western Washington. I tried twice through county court to get a restraining order, provided voicemails, FB messages, a letter he sent to my house including a threat he made about my 74 y/o mother. The first time they denied it, they told me if he continues to re-file, and they would waive the filing fee and look into securing a restraining order. By me, trying to get a restraining order the first time it just angered him, and it got worse. I went back to court with more evidence, and he wrote in to the court stating he couldn’t be there because he was on disability. However, on his Facebook, he posted multiple photos of him riding his Harley to far away places. Yet, he’s on disability for his back and on handfuls of pain meds. This stressed me out so much. RUclips is the only social media that I have and I believe he still follows me on RUclips and I don’t even post anything. I bought a gun and learned how to use it.

    Gavin De Beker's book, "The Gift of Fear" has a whole chapter on stalking and I believe for a while, at least, he helped people who were being stalked by monitoring their stalker's communications. He could tell when a stalker was going from harassment to violence. Worked for some famous people. Every time this guy tried to connect it should have been reported to someone, even if they had to privately hire someone and get body guards. They were naive, unfortunately. Fixation is so dangerous. Another great video with the exception of the jazz music comment. The common thread I see in this and many other stalker cases is that their victims never take their stalkers seriously. I knew someone who was stalked. She was in her twenties and a man tried to strangle her in the parking lot of the college she was attending. Luckily a bystander heard the commotion and the stalker ran away. She was of course terrified and began carrying a hammer underneath her car seat--and it was a good thing too because several weeks later, the stalker attempted to strangle her again. This time, she was able to grab the hammer from under her seat and hit him in the head. He ran off and was later found dead in some bushes. Better to be parnoid when it comes to stalkers--it might save your life.

      There’s a HUGE difference between being “level-headed” and being ASSERTIVE to people who clearly need it. You can’t be “diplomatic” with deluded FREAKS like this guy. It’ll only motivate them more, because they’ll feel stronger. I imagine most women would PREFER a man who is firm & aggressive towards a creepy stalker, and who sends a clear message that they are NOT to be messed with. However, with that said, I also cannot know if the script that Dr. Grande was reading was spoken in a loud harsh yelling tone in reality. But truth be told-Zohreh herself also messed up by meeting him in person without protection to begin with, which you should never do to any online stranger that you’ve just met. This situation was just tragic overall. RIP to the victims.

    I am curious what precautions this unfortunate couple had taken knowing that they were being harassed and targeted as well as visited by someone who was clearly potentially dangerous. It would be an incredibly unsettling and frightening circumstance to have to live through knowing that at any moment the violent threat could be at your doorstep or in this case at your window. Law enforcement does the best that it can in these circumstances but there are always limits. The predator will always have the luxury of deciding the where, when, and how his final interaction with his target will be. There is always the chance that good fortune will shine upon the intended victims and the predator is thwarted by either a lucky encounter with law enforcement or by his own incompetence or lack of commitment. One cant rely on those possibilities however. Ultimately our personal security and safety is primarily our own responsibility and in our own hands. Even knowing and adhering to those realities is no guarantee but an intended victim can certainly shift the odds to their advantage should the predator decide to take action.

    Thank you for covering this case. As someone who was born and raised in Redmond, Washington all my life....this is just so beyond sad and heartbreaking. As an avid real/true crime buff, I always see the people on the shows and cases say "I can't believe it happened in our town..." or something along those lines. Obviously Seattle and other cities in Washington State have experienced horrific crimes....some that go down in history (Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgeway, George Russell, Maurice Clemmons, etc.) But a stalker of a Podcaster in Redmond, Wa right down the street from where I went to high school is just horrific and surreal. Rest In Peace to these innocent victims. There's a special place in hell for the stalker/murderer.

    How about this: BEWARE when you are on a public forum, podcast or any other thing. It can be dangerous, so think hard before you undertake this.

    Watched this case on another channel. I was surprised that there were commentators put the blame on the couple and the mother for not being armed.

      @ggjr61 Год назад +6

      I wouldn’t blame them for not being armed although it might have increased their chances of survival but only if they were willing to shoot and take a life. I think their best chance would have been to relocate, changing names as well as employment and never contact anyone that didn’t go with them again. The problem was I don’t think the husband really understood the danger he and his wife were in. He was too blasé and even left to to travel around the world.

      I don't blame them for not being armed, but do we know whether they made ANY attempt to actually defend themselves? Or did they just stand there and feign surprise?

      Well nothing else helped. A gun close by may have helped or may not. It's just a tool with maybe lower than 50 50 outcome if u are taken by surprise. That said it is a tool

      @Thomasco If you're asking if they made any attempt to defend themselves when he attacked, the wife had mobility issues because she was recovering from major back surgery (and did everything short of going into hiding to defend herself before the attack, she filed police reports
      estraining orders, changed her number\blocked his, blocked him on social media) Not sure about the husband although he reportedly attempted to escape but collapsed at the front door.

    Staking and be harassed by a female (especially an ex) can happen too, but is never treated seriously because there's always an emphasis that the man is at fault.
    I once dated someone who was at first very sweet, but gradually she started finding faults and criticising everything I did. And became increasingly argumentative.
    Then she said she'd been the victim of an assault in 3 previous relationships and was stalked by her ex. So I decided to cool things and back off. She'd show up randomly and even called me 78 times in one evening.
    The next thing I know she called the police and said that I had assaulted her so I was arrested and detained for over 24 hours. Luckily I could prove my whereabouts which was backed up by CCTV. The irony is that if I have to change my dog walking routine because if our paths crossed again who knows what she'd do. And the police will believe her because she's the woman. The moralbis guys if someone tells you their ex is a stalker or they've been abused its an indication that that's why they are going to accuse you off, when the honeymoon period is over.

      You don’t have to see it in terms of gender. Horrible people do this to both women and men. I’m sorry for your experience. It’s not ok. But also I’ve had a similar scary experience and it might make you feel better to know cops did not take it seriously until it escalated beyond belief.

    Great analysis Dr. Grande, except your pun about Jazz music witch I LIKE, LOL, but no joke that this is VERY SAD . I was stalked twice. Once by an X for about 6 months was scariest time of my life, until luckily for me he found someone else though unlucky for her. Then by a person I barely knew, but I was also lucky that the police did take it seriously because of his past history of violence. I moved from the area, after he was arrested and thankfully never saw him again.

    These cases frustrate me so much because it’s such a senseless loss of life. Much earlier on in the stalking the stalker needs to be held accountable and should have a minimum stay in a mental health institution for an evaluation and treatment. How many times should someone have to say “No” before action is taken?
