    The Archer, from J Rockett Audio Designs, is a new boost/overdrive pedal designed to work with your guitar and amp to help you cut through the mix with an organic, responsive tone that sounds like your rig, only more. The Archer's tremendous headroom, resulting from its 18v internal circuitry, lends it a very amp-like feel, and its trio of control knobs let it do everything from transparent clean boost, to chimey mid-range drive, to a singing, velvety lead voice. The Output, Gain, and Treble are highly interactive, enabling a huge range of boost and overdrive tones from a very simple, easy-to-use control set. The Rockett Archer is made in the USA, and features extremely high quality buffered switching, standard 9v negative-tip or battery operation, and a handsome, yet rugged, matte silver enclosure.

The best tone shaping pedal I've found..this pedal don't get enough praise..if you can't find what your looking for in a boost clean or over drive if your favorite pedal seems to be missing something you'll love this with it..2thumbs up great video.

      Acruhf Most pedals do a decent job of pushing the front end of an amp, in a tube amp this creates some overdrive as the tubes go beyond their limits. Most overdrive pedals run a standard 9V circuit. This kind of circuit, and other components, can be good, but lack the headroom that really pushes a tube preamp over the edge. Many times the amp has to be cranked and then adding the overdrive pushes everything off the edge. However, with an 18V internal circuit, using a charge pump chip and circuit to increase the voltage from standard 9V DC, the overdrive achieves similar tonal results at lower volumes, good for practice, studio recording, and small venues. Also, the increased headroom means there is more volume boost on tap. This all creates a more dynamic interaction with the tube amp creating more authentic tube drive at any volume. There are some techies that probably can correct and add to this for sure.

    • @ChrisHeadyYHWHworshiper
      @ChrisHeadyYHWHworshiper 10 лет назад

      Chris Heady These pedals are not quiet by any means, many of them tend to lean on the loud side no matter what volume you play at, but you also gain increased dynamics based on pick attack.

    If I play like that my nail just shreds man, can't do it. I love to play with my fingers, but I can't get those sharp, down strokes like that without a pick. I've tried to get used to a thumb pick- which seems like the perfect solution- can't do it. It really screws me up to try and play with one. Then I found the Black Mountain picks that have the thumb thingy on them but are shaped like a regular pick- still couldn't do it. I'm just going to have to master that thing where you hold a pick but also pick with your fingers- I see ppl do it so, I know it can be done- and it feels the most comfortable to me. I never realized so many other guys played with their fingers- I thought I had a "thing" going on- just me and Mark Knopfler. Nope, lots of guys do it, pretty common- I just had never noticed until I noticed.

    Just bought this pedal from PGS. Really like it, but the treble pot is very noisy when turning. Seems like testing when building at JRAD would be a step in quality control. Now I have to go through the process of returning, etc. Expect better quality control from expensive boutique pedal makers.

    I don't find the clean boost to be transparent. Gorgeous, yes, but there are definitely some low mids added by the pedal. I definitely want to get one of these in the near future before they're forced to change their enclosures.

    • @1388Anthony1
      @1388Anthony1 9 лет назад +3

      +MrDT543 Transparent has become a buzz word like true bypass. I have owned many good klones and by buddy has an original so ive been using klons for awhile. It is not a transparent overdrive/boost at all it never was. The original design was not meant to be transparent at all. Its the best boost pedal ever low gain crank the level. Same way I use my vintage ts9 gain all the way down level all the way up. I'm going in to a cranked plexi or a cranked tweed Princeton or a cranked old harmony. That's how I use it which I feel is the best way but this circuit has never been transparent. If I wanted transparent I wouldn't use a pedal I'd dime my plexi and go straight in which I do a lot anyways.

Never played a Hot Cake, though the demos all sound decent enough. If you want something that can do it all with ease, check out the Barber Gain Changer. • @jessemaes1990
      @jessemaes1990 10 лет назад

      Brian Cullen People seem to think that "processing" and "editing" are magic, they aren't. PGS can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that they don't do any post production like eq and compression, just like any other company that does demo's. Maybe a limiter on the master to level it all but that's probably it. As far as editing goes, that doesn't change the sound of the recording at all. Editing refers to cut, copy and paste work with your audio after recording.

    • @soundknight
      @soundknight 10 лет назад

      Jesse Maes Thanks Jesse, but there is magic there and if you think that editing is as simple as it used to be with cutting and gluing tape together its not. Things can be digitally altered very significantly you just have to buy really really expensive equipment to do it. I mean look at Britney Spears and Madonna, technically they are terrible singers but you wouldn't know it by the media they release. I have second hand account of Madonna's average singing from a local guru who did sound at her Aussie concert. He said there was a room full of computers processing her vocals in real time. There is magic out there Jesse, you just have to believe ;) click ya red heels buddy!

    • @jessemaes1990
      @jessemaes1990 10 лет назад +7

      Brian Cullen I don't want to sound like a dick but I actually have a master's degree in audio engineering and 7 years of recording/producing experience. What you call magic on Madonna's vocals is a combination of auto tune, eq, compression, reverb, delay, modulation, none of which has anything to do with a raw guitar track. Again, none of the above has anything to do with editing. Compression, eq, auto tune etc. are all part of the mixing process, I think you're just confusing editing and mixing here.

    Ikon or Archer?

    • @KevinDarty
      @KevinDarty 3 года назад +1

      This is the Archer, a clone of the Silver Klon. The Ikon version is more of a cone of the original Gold Klon with the correct Germanium Diodes. While this Silver Klon doesn't have the Germanium Diodes it is still a faithful reproduction if the delicious transparent Klon Overdrive. Check out the videos for both versions to decide which works best for you. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

    • @KevinDarty
      @KevinDarty 3 года назад

      Oh, as a comparison, the EHX Soul Food is more of a Silver clone which does not have the Germanium Diodes but a super popular mod from JHS adds the option to switch on demand to the Germanium Diodes which is very nice but JHS didn't make those anymore.

    • @KevinDarty
