I've been a fan of thrice for a long time since the days of illusion of safety and artists in the ambulance, when this album came out it was groundbreaking I think because of the way they approached making the record, doing it independently, producing it and mixing it themselves with a thematic motif, all four elements. Super cool
All the Fire songs are bomb. Backdraft has to be my favorite, or The Arsonist. These albums are ridiculous in structure and musicality to the elements, it’s beyond genius. Love the honesty! Blessings!
Sometimes repetition can be good. Here it felt kinda forced. I loved the melody but it might have been more powerful if the song was shorter. Joel said a lot of what I was thinking so Celly goes to the Left side of the brain.
@@6yourmaw9 That’s the beauty of Freedom, you have your opinions and I have mine. I actually did listen to the lyrics and while the message is cool there wasn’t a whole lot of depth to it. A good example of a song with a similar message that has depth to its lyrics is Freedom by RATM. So no, my opinion still stands. Thanks though ☮️
This song is about a born again Christian who is about to be burned at the stake because of his beliefs. The song is him addressing the crowd that is about to watch him die, asking them if they are truly free. True freedom is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. So this Christian, though he is about to die, is truly free because he has eternal life through Jesus Christ. "While the gallows stand, bullets lance the bravest lungs. Will I fold my hands or hold my tongue? Or let the flames lick at my feet, and breathe in fire and know I'm free."
Saw thrice this week… they were fantastic live… wouldn’t play deadbolt 😢. As for this song.. it’s a 7/10 for me.. it’s not nearly as good as stuff from their first album, and doesn’t touch deep even as their second album… I feel there was a bit of a lull in the middle albums, but newer albums are great again.
This song bangs so hard live and the last outro part is awesome
Favorite band of all time. You need to listen to their entire catalog.
Whatever you fear keeps you from true freedom.

Teppei's solo riff at the outro is the whole song. Not the greatest recorded song but easily one of my favorite live Thrice songs.

If you listened and understand the lyrics and the meaning behind it you would have a different opinion ✌️
