  • In this Bitcoin Q&A, Andreas explains how to be sure your hardware wallet has actually deleted your mnemonic phrase.
00:00 - Does deleting a mnemonic phrase from a hardware wallet make it impossible to recover?
00:18 - In most cases, deleting means permanant deletion
00:47 - If it's a lot of money, it's safer to destroy the wallet

    Thank YOU Andreas ‼️👏👏👏❤️
In addition I would collect all pieces mix them with crazy glue and make a ball out of it to then be smashed again with a hammer.
Depending on the amount of money, I would repeat this process several more times.😂

I thought hardware wallets were unhackable… otherwise, what’s the point?

The physical device absolutely is without wiping it. With wiping, it's still unclear if it is. Hence, to be safe, protect your physical device as if it were a bearer asset, i.e. fully hackable. Alternatively, put the microwave and your baseball bat to good use. Going forward, be mindful of which devices you have used to access which seed phrases, so you can better manage your security.

I once heard an interview with the people from Ledger. The question was: if someone steals my Ledger Nano, will they be able to retrieve my seed phrase and use it? The answer was: yes, but only if they got really high end stuff and it would take them a few weeks.

Why do you need to use phrases?

what duration of time in the microwave would provide peace of mind??

Yes but how long in the microwave? You want to erase the data but not start a fire ;-) I think Mr Robot popularized the idea of using Microwaves.
