  • This year, the Bosch-Biker-Bamberg Grand Tour was going to Sardinia. In the past we've only ever done 4- or 5-day tours, but this time we've increased the length to 9 days, otherwise Sardinia wouldn't really have made sense, especially if you leave yourself 2 days each for the outward journey and the return journey to the ferry.
Seven of us headed south and, thanks to the friendly Austrian roadblocks around Innsbruck, we had to bite the bullet and take the Brenner motorway. This turned out to be a catastrophic mistake that cost us 2 hours in a traffic jam. Anyone who has ever travelled on air-cooled motorbikes without the possibility of overtaking knows what I mean. In the end, we got through that too, but later had to skip Monte Baldo and then take the motorway from Bolzano directly to our first hotel in Nogarole Rocca (south of Lake Garda).
Conclusion: Never drive through Austria at weekends or on public holidays!
The ferry crossing was quiet, but the colleagues from Moby Lines were relatively harsh when waking us up and "driving us out" of the cabins, which everyone really disliked. I had never experienced anything like this on any of my ferry journeys before.
Sardinia, what can I say. A very popular island, especially with motorcyclists. There are no steep mountains with hairpin bends, but if you love the smooth "groove" from bend to bend, this is the place for you. The roads are generally well surfaced, unless you are travelling on lower category roads.
Our destination this time was the mid-west, where we spent all 4 nights in Arbatax. The 3 day trips with almost no overlap, started from Arbatax 1x north-west, 1x west and 1x south.
On the way home, we again took 2 days and planned a stopover in Comano Terme (north of Lake Garda).
All in all, it was a very nice tour, which was also very harmonious. We didn't have any mishaps or accidents, nor any technical problems, so we're looking forward to the next tours to come.
