Love the addition of more rocks. I've always loved creating little tunnels and hidyways for the fish to swim in and out of. This is perfect! I think it's the first time seeing you have rock sticking out of the water? I could be wrong, but I think it's a great look! Beautiful new fish added as well. Thanks for the video, and a little visit to Matt too. Always fun!
Ever since finding this channel and Matt’s, my love for the fish hobby has come back and I’m loving it! Your tanks looks so good! Please please please can you do a tank with a group of clown loaches 🙏
MD I’d love to see you design a big silver hatchetfish setup. Always been a dream of mine. They have a really stunning look if you have a lot of them. They all school together on the surface and usually face one direction into the current, when they change direction it creates a remarkable flash if you have the silver variety. Keep doing what your doing brother, your a good man.
Love it! I've kept Mbuna for years, your tank is waaaaay nicer than mine. I'm gonna steal some anubius from my planted tank and put it in with the mbuna. Grate vid. 👍
I seem to remember when you first got the new studio, MD, you mentioned the possibility of a pond. So if you built a second floor mezzanine over one end of the studio, you could clear a load of tanks and put them up there and think of all of the room you'd have for a pond! 🙂 Just a thought.
I had Malawi chichlids about 15 years and i must say, you have good plan for that tank. I don’t now your filter system but it should certainly 4 times stronger then on a regular tank. I also suggest to get a uv cleaner to get rid of most algeae particles, because usually you get more algae on a malawi tank. Good wishes from Germany and thank your, for your awesome content.
Tanganyikan cichlids again please. they have got to be one of my favourite in the hobby. you get some great characteristics with fish from tanganyika and malawi. I dont think you will have a problem with aggression with a large enough tank like the one you have, i will be every surprised if you have any serious injuries. hope you continue to enjoy them as much as i have done
Just seen you will be in Houston TX this weekend visiting A.D.G. Hope I get a chance to go see you. Maybe you can swing by one of my favorite lfs not far from there 360 Aquatic
Whatever happened to the Archer fish tank? That was my favorite before you moved to the new studio. You should revisit that. I, for one, would love to see it
I had an Mbuna tank (4ft x 2ft x 2ft) a few years back and it was my favourite tank while the fish were all still juveniles. I even picked out a couple of females that were holding eggs in their mouth and successfully raised the young...which I returned to the main tank to keep stock levels high. But after about 12-18 months when the original stock reached full size it just turned into a Battle Royale. I'd get up every day to find one or two dead fish or one with all it's fins bitten off. They stopped breeding because the females which are smaller were just getting constantly harassed. The tank went from being a source of joy to one of complete stress. I ended up giving the remaining fish away to my lfs. I don't think I'd ever attempt it again unless I had a massive ie: 8ft/10ft tank. So I'm really interested to see how things go with yours. Hopefully you won't have the same problems that I did. Or maybe you'll find different techniques to stop the aggression. I had loads of rocks and plenty of hiding spaces but it still didn't seem to help.
They are the absolute worst when they mature, they kill each other for fun i swear! So annoying to get them to adult size just for them to kill each other
@MDFishTanks I'm not trying to put you off. I'm sure there are people that manage to succeed. They're strange fish...they'll really get to know you and you'll be able to feed them by hand but for some reason, they just seem to hate each other. Lol. Anyway, good luck. I'm really keen to see how things pan out for you with this tank.
Love the tank! African cichlids are my favorite fish, just wait til they get bigger and start moving your sand 😅. I think you'd enjoy some peacocks and haps, but you need a bigger tank. I have a mixed tank of africans, my venustus and blue dolphin are my favorites, and my red top hongi (like yours). I'd suggest a wavemaker, it keeps the oxygen levels up for the fish, and keeps them busy with the current. As they get bigger they do develop more aggression. Your tank is set up pretty good to help though, lots of sight breaks. Good luck!
The goldfish have been gone for months, haven't they? I remember MD commented a long time ago that they weren't doing well, and he's not planning to keep goldfish any more.
Great tank MD. I enjoyed the new additions. Where are you goldfish? We haven't seen them in a long time. I'm sure you boys loved the new fish. Thanks for sharing!
MD, love you videos! I'm about to set up a new bookshelf aquarium. It's a 60 liter tank, dimensions are roughly 86cm long, 27cm tall, and 25cm wide. I could be very wrong, but have you ever done anything like that? I'd love to see what you would do with something so long and shallow.
Very nice tank MD. I like the clean look and the space the fish have. The colours of the fish are looking nice! What happened to the fish that spit? That tank was really crazy beautiful to (i know it was just build before you moved to the new studio)
Imagine the place outside your studio, turn right.. make it like a pond with an additional viewing panel, in height. Scaped with rocks n waterfall..... wuuu.. I think its dope!!
The tank looks awesome! What kind are the ones with light blue/silvery sides and yellow fins? It will be very interesting to watch how the colors change as the fish mature.
I have a 15 gallon planted Betta tank. It has biofilm on surface and I am thinking of adding a HOB with surface skimmer. But will my floating plants cause an issue with the skimmer? I have a floating barrier around current filter, but not sure if the barrier will stop surface skimmer from working.
Hallo MD. Great channel, best fish keeping so far on RUclips. Can i ask you for advice. Soon, I will get my new tank 142x60xH70. I am planning to use led flood lights like you. My question is, should I go for 3x 30w or 3x20w or something else. Tank will be low tech, but I still want to try to grow plants like marsilea hirsuta or Monte carlo or maybe some kind of small microsword. What light would you recommend. Thanks.
Hey MD, im a new subscriber and i love your tanks, they're incredible. When i notice novice fishkeepers like myself they normally can manage to get 1 or two crappy plants and dont have time to scavenge rocks like me. Hello! I have been seeing your videos for a while. I have a 10 galon tank that I got for free. I have never kept fish before so starting from scratch! I wanted to see if anyone has any advice for me. I plan on keeping either 3 Guppies ( 2F and 1M) or 6 Chili Rasboras + shrimp (need to research more but I really want shirmps in the tank) + a snail or 2. I also want to have a healthy amount plants in there. Does this seem like a good combination? Any advise is welcomed! Thank you!
Sounds great...👍 Personally I would get endlers instead of guppies.. They grow smaller so you could get 5/6 + they are more hardy than guppies ... Also I would just go all male ... Unless you want hundreds of fry in your tank.. *Crap Game* 🎉
Hey MD, huge question (big fan by the way, watching you since you started the channel). The 4 ft optiwhite tanks used to be from APS, they dont stock them anymore and finding these 4ft braceless open top tanks are so hard, where can i buy one? :) thanks!

Man that tank is so beautiful. Now its done. Love the channel
you have very pretty eyes holy shit
Is the lighting colour asymmetrical on pourpose?
Does vine wood rot being a soft wood ?
I think this is my favourite aquarium. The landscape looks great, not overcomplicated, and the fish are so colourful and active.
I think it looks awful... A monkey 🐒 could do a better scape....
*Crap Game* 🎉
Kate is such a champion- she’s there to take care of business.
I think MD is hooked! Cichlids are amazing fish. They really do have such personalities.
Always fun!
Amazing tank probably my favourite. You just don’t see other people putting plants in a cichlid tank . You’ve proved it can work looks epic
Most African Rift Lake Cichlids live at depths where not enough light penetrates to support lush plant life.
Ever since finding this channel and Matt’s, my love for the fish hobby has come back and I’m loving it! Your tanks looks so good! Please please please can you do a tank with a group of clown loaches 🙏
This tank inspired me to start my own 75 gallon lake Malawi cichlid tank. I’m using this video as a guideline for mine! Thx for the great videos
Such a nice tank, any chance there’s an update on the pond that you moved in that guys garden? Also you need to get the Archers back they were so cool
MD I’d love to see you design a big silver hatchetfish setup. Always been a dream of mine. They have a really stunning look if you have a lot of them. They all school together on the surface and usually face one direction into the current, when they change direction it creates a remarkable flash if you have the silver variety.

Love it! I've kept Mbuna for years, your tank is waaaaay nicer than mine. I'm gonna steal some anubius from my planted tank and put it in with the mbuna. Grate vid. 👍
Was waiting for the update on the mbunas
This tank is perfect. I am building one mbuna tank just because of this one. Great video as always!
Wow!! Gorgeous fish and the colours🤩they were hilarious with the wafers🤣 and the extra rocks you put in really enhanced the look of the tank.
I seem to remember when you first got the new studio, MD, you mentioned the possibility of a pond. So if you built a second floor mezzanine over one end of the studio, you could clear a load of tanks and put them up there and think of all of the room you'd have for a pond! 🙂 Just a thought.
I love this tank. It's visually so amazing . 👏
Comfortably my favourite of all your tanks, superb set up and lovely fish, could sit in front of it all day 😊
I love this tank, such a clean look
The best Thank I ever seen of African Chiclids! Amazing!
I absolutely love this tank!!!!
I love that the fish are the stars and we can see them better with less jungle 😊
The new rocks added made the tank look even better!
Watching from Seville, Spain I have a Mauna tank, a Vic tank, and a Tanganyika one. Love them consider Synodontis cats to Mbuna
Looks great, I love the rock sticking out of the top like that.
Ein sehr schönes Becken mit Malawicichliden! Es war auch sehr richtig, den Fischen durch die Steine ausreichend Rückzugsmöglichkeiten zu schaffen! 👍
Hardscape in this tank is one of your top 3! Only thing Id change is making the sand less thick at the front.
bro be rocking those old schoold Skater Airwalks! Respect, bet the dude skates and everything!
Nice tank but I thought it looked better at the very begining of the video with more open swimming room.
Looks awesome! I just got a 10 gal colum tank but have no ideas on how to scape it.12.5 W x 12.5 L x 19 H.
Just seen you will be in Houston TX this weekend visiting A.D.G. Hope I get a chance to go see you. Maybe you can swing by one of my favorite lfs not far from there 360 Aquatic

Go with a all male tank cuts down on aggression no ladies to fight over
They are the absolute worst when they mature, they kill each other for fun i swear! So annoying to get them to adult size just for them to kill each other
Yeah, I had the same experience like you. I was constantly moving rocks around but within a a day or so, I would find a beaten up one in the corner.
I have heard this a few times so will certainly be paying close attention
@MDFishTanks I'm not trying to put you off. I'm sure there are people that manage to succeed. One of my fave tanks

Does this wood rot being a softer wood ?
African Cichlids are my favorite. Mbuna are cool, but I can't wait for you to explore Peacocks and Haps.
Thank you Mrs. MD ❤❤❤❤
how do you get the drift wood to stop releasing tannins?
Mbunas are the most entertaining fish! Nice group and colors are brilliant.
Kate is like: I’m clocked in, ain’t got times for games. All work no play.
Any advise on what cold water clean up crew I could get with goldfish other than snails thanks
E just ordered the same planta after watching your video and also hopefully setting up a similar aquarium.
Great video! Beautiful tank.
Can't wait for a goldfish update 😊
The goldfish have been gone for months, haven't they? I remember MD commented a long time ago that they weren't doing well, and he's not planning to keep goldfish any more.
@@MrVovansim Oh, I didn't realize that. Thanks for updating me 🙂
Yes my Saturday is complete an MD update on the mbuna aquarium
Awesome! I’m glad that I’ve Malawi Cichlid tank at home. I just love watching them all day❤
Great tank MD. I enjoyed the new additions. Where are you goldfish? We haven't seen them in a long time. I'm sure you boys loved the new fish. Thanks for sharing!
They all died. MD said he won’t keep them ever again.
Needed Pepiot to have a good outing, welcome back!
Very nice setup... I have an all Mbuna tank as well.... Get ready though, they do like to dig....😂
Yes! Mbuna update! I’ve been thinking about getting a tank with mbunas
Very nice tank MD. I like the clean look and the space the fish have. The colours of the fish are looking nice!
What happened to the fish that spit? That tank was really crazy beautiful to (i know it was just build before you moved to the new studio)
That is a stunning fish tank bro
Imagine the place outside your studio, turn right.. make it like a pond with an additional viewing panel, in height. Scaped with rocks n waterfall..... wuuu.. I think its dope!!
Do we need co2 for keeping hair grass in tank...
are those lights salt water lights??
Do the stones help maintain the pH?
Nice video mate! You'll need a much bigger tank when their fully grown and a few wavemakers 😁👊
Love the work. Should put some nice Cupid cichlids in that new tank would look nice
What foods do you use for the mbunas?
What glue do you use please
You should try get matt to order you some elongatus "chewere". One of the prettiest Mbuna out there I think and will really contrast with your others
I was wondering how did you get rid of the diatom algea? I have this algea for a long time. I have nerites they are trying but not enough.
This tank is perfect. Kudos
Love ur stuff, however get ready to move some over to larger tanks , had most of these and even the "smaller" species can grow 6 inches +
Sporting the Airwalk sneakers i see. I want the Crocs back! Are you even MD?! 😂😂😂😂
Maybe a cool video idea could be buying a noob fishkeepers brand new tank recipt and you set up the exact tank they made, and then try to improve on it in tiny ways thay help everyone learn about how to get better at our hobby!
that* sorry have a wonderful day MD bro❤
wow just love that stone set up! Inspiration 😍
On a calm day, where you aren’t doing a bunch of stuff in the studio, you could set up a couple cameras and just record the fish for a couple hours and I bet you’d get hella views
Whats happening with the Archer fish from the old studio
When these guys get a bit bigger I'd love to see a 6 or 8 foot build just a massive show piece. the rock work and limited plants leaving all that negative space would just make these fish stand out like nothing else
Here they like to dig around the rocks to let there fry out . So i hope you put the rocks at the glass not on the sand ❤
New rock scape looks great!
What happened to the goldfish tank MD??
Mbunas gorgeous lovely tank 👌
Great looking tank as always MD, do you have a link for the play sand you use?
Hey MD, die Mbunas sind so schön 😁👍 was dir noch fehlt sind Pseutropeus Demansoni. Gruß Enrico 😉👍
Hii, Mate
Where is your archer fish.
this planted cichlid tank is making me like cichlids the way you have it scaped lol. Good job md, we will see how they act as they get older, but for now, this tank is beautiful..imho
I dream of having enough space to have an Mbuna tank one day. I love yours!I Gina
It needs some red in there now, maybe a Ruby Red Peacock African Cichlid?
What is the pH and water parameters?
Great video as always.
Would love to see you scape some of the even more affordable tanks for us poor folk! Like the Ciano Half Hexagon or Pets at Home 24l. Can you make it look expensive even if it’s not 😊
So are these less agressive species?
Someday, I would love to get back into the hobby, right now is not the best time but, someday...
Acher fish can jump on tank..?? Please want a answer ??
*Crap Game* 🎉
i love your wood addicting 😁
I'm not familiar with cichlids but if you could find a red variation, and purple variation that would be neat
Don’t heat the tanks heat the room brother✊
awesome they did grow a lot
Hi! Really nice tank! I'm not a great fan of african cichlids, but this tank looks awesome!
Is that grapevine wood?
When is a new reef tank coming?
Good final result 😅
You dont quarantine? That's wild
Hey MD, huge question (big fan by the way, watching you since you started the channel). The 4 ft optiwhite tanks used to be from APS, they dont stock them anymore and finding these 4ft braceless open top tanks are so hard, where can i buy one? :) thanks!
