Love the addition of more rocks. I've always loved creating little tunnels and hidyways for the fish to swim in and out of. This is perfect! I think it's the first time seeing you have rock sticking out of the water? I could be wrong, but I think it's a great look! Beautiful new fish added as well. MD I’d love to see you design a big silver hatchetfish setup. Always been a dream of mine. They have a really stunning look if you have a lot of them. They all school together on the surface and usually face one direction into the current, when they change direction it creates a remarkable flash if you have the silver variety.
Keep doing what your doing brother, your a good man.

I seem to remember when you first got the new studio, MD, you mentioned the possibility of a pond. So if you built a second floor mezzanine over one end of the studio, you could clear a load of tanks and put them up there and think of all of the room you'd have for a pond! 🙂 Just a thought.

I had Malawi chichlids about 15 years and i must say, you have good plan for that tank. I don’t now your filter system but it should certainly 4 times stronger then on a regular tank. I also suggest to get a uv cleaner to get rid of most algeae particles, because usually you get more algae on a malawi tank.
Good wishes from Germany and thank your, for your awesome content.

I had an Mbuna tank (4ft x 2ft x 2ft) a few years back and it was my favourite tank while the fish were all still juveniles. I even picked out a couple of females that were holding eggs in their mouth and successfully raised the young...which I returned to the main tank to keep stock levels high. But after about 12-18 months when the original stock reached full size it just turned into a Battle Royale. I'd get up every day to find one or two dead fish or one with all it's fins bitten off. They stopped breeding because the females which are smaller were just getting constantly harassed. The tank went from being a source of joy to one of complete stress. I ended up giving the remaining fish away to my lfs. I don't think I'd ever attempt it again unless I had a massive ie: 8ft/10ft tank. So I'm really interested to see how things go with yours. Hopefully you won't have the same problems that I did. Or maybe you'll find different techniques to stop the aggression. I had loads of rocks and plenty of hiding spaces but it still didn't seem to help.

Love the tank! African cichlids are my favorite fish, just wait til they get bigger and start moving your sand 😅. I think you'd enjoy some peacocks and haps, but you need a bigger tank. I have a mixed tank of africans, my venustus and blue dolphin are my favorites, and my red top hongi (like yours). I'd suggest a wavemaker, it keeps the oxygen levels up for the fish, and keeps them busy with the current. As they get bigger they do develop more aggression. Your tank is set up pretty good to help though, lots of sight breaks. Good luck!

When i notice novice fishkeepers like myself they normally can manage to get 1 or two crappy plants and dont have time to scavenge rocks like me. Hey MD, huge question (big fan by the way, watching you since you started the channel). The 4 ft optiwhite tanks used to be from APS, they dont stock them anymore and finding these 4ft braceless open top tanks are so hard, where can i buy one? :) thanks!
