Haven'[t finished watching ep4 yet but someone mentioned a fish on another channel so am passing it on to you as I would love to see you design an aquarium for them. You love tetra so have you heard of splash tetra [no idea if they are available even in the UK] because they sound as though they would be ideal for you to build an aquarium round. They are form the same region as Archer Fish and I know you love them so thought I'd pass this breed on as well.
The addition of Steph has been so good! You can just sense that you guys are just enjoying every day. I feel like more of your personality comes out with Steph there. This channel just got so much better.

Great editing, makes such a difference to have a dedicated videographer!
Hey MD, handy tip, when using those hole drills and to avoid blow out on the other size. Drill half way through the board then change the to the other size and drill half way though that side using the little pilot hole you've already drilled. Voila, clean hole. 🥴
Tip for fitting your hose on the lilly pipes. Boil the kettle, fill a cup with boiling water. Put the end of the hose in the boiling water till its soft. Fit the hose to the lilly pipe and keep in place till it cools. We use the same hose for drains on refrigeration evaporators. Heating up the hose makes it very pliable, so you don't have to use any force on the glass. And when it cools, it contracts slightly, so it stays secure on the glass.
Couple tips: 1st, Huge fan of OASE filters...but if you are not going to be using that heater, use the plug ( @5:39, the round object in the box with the black o-rings) and just store the heater, it'll keep you from accidentally breaking the heater when opening the entire unit. If I need to get into the filter to change floss/purigen/etc, I take make heater out (which is simple 1/4 or 1/2 turn to prevent damage (after it's been turned of for 5-10 minutes to get of residual heat). 2nd -- when using those spade bits to drill into veneered (vinyl, lol!) plywood/particle board/mdf, don't go only from one direction. Start from the unseen or less seen side just until the small hole is pierced on one side, stop drilling, and change to the other side. This way there is no tearout (like you did ;) )< Looking stellar!!
Cats get into everything. Saying that you'll keep an eye on them in the living room underestimates how fast, stubborn and sneaky they can be. All parts of lilies are extremely toxic to cats, not just eating the plants but coming in to contact with pollen or licking contaminated water is enough to cause severe symptoms. As someone with fish and cats, I was really looking forward to the use of non-toxic plants, especially because it would be different plants from what is normally used.
my cats have been around toxic plants since young and have on occasion nibbled them, unless they eat mass amounts (unlikely given they taste awful) it really isn't as much of an issue as people make out.
Time to introduce the Automated Aquarium Water Turret defense system. Motion activated, AI-assisted to identify and spray any approaching cat with 1m range. Excellent deterrent that anyone with an aquarium and cats needs!
Agreed. Swap in cat safe options. Spider plants, Boston fern, Chain of hearts… anything that won’t kill your kittens should be used instead. Will be a big blow to your channel if you kill one of your kittens because you wanted to use a plant you know is toxic. Better safe than sorry.
Just wanna say - great work. A lot of works goes into these tanks and it's cool you're showing all the little bits and pieces that you have to get sorted. also good to see you guys having a laugh too.

Really enjoying this series. Good to see you have some help again. You seem more relaxed with some good company, you and Steph interact well with each other.
I put my canister in a plastic bin. From experience, stuff happens. Good thing I do this. I found a cup of water in the plastic bin from a failed lid gasket.
Looks amazing, if I came home to that I would be over the moon Just beautiful can’t wait for the next one… That tank is kickin Great photon capturing by Steph
Hi MD, I have used those glass lily pipes for some time now. They go beautifully with a rimless tank. My only advice to you is cut a one inch piece of the vinyl tubing, then cut it in half. Place each piece under each pipe on the rim of the aquarium. I had the suction come loose and one cracked on my tank. Thank goodness it happened while I was cleaning the tank and I was able to shut everything down. Your setup looks stunning! 🤙
MD, great video and series! For future drilling on veneered MDF or composite boards, check out a forstner bit. They're much easier to use than paddle bits
I think that would be a great idea for a set of double disconnects to make servicing the baskets super convenient and safer as far as the lily pipes are concerned. Especially with the setup being new and OASE does sell them now too . Also ordering a few extra pre filter sponges definitely will be another time saver and let you play around with the greatest canister of all. One more suggestion is to dio the ends into almost boiling water with gloves on and then once the hose cools down they will seal perfectly around the plastic barbs eliminating any chance of air being sucked in. Hopefully you have as much enjoyment with this aquarium as you can experience it with your family and making your best scapes every couple of years!!! 💚💙
Nice of you to mention Flo, she hasn't been around in awhile now. Amazing build, and loving the edits with the new camera guy around. Thanks for the share.
Dude! Just buy a 90° vinyl hose connector an attach it going right up to the lily pipes. Will keep it more stream line to the tank 👍 Tank looks awesome
I'm relatively new to your channel (not the hobby) but have really been enjoying your videos and knowledge about aquariums! Im impressed with your ability to remember plants' scientific names 😂
Looking great md A little tip: when you are connecting the hose to the in/outlet put a little bit of heat on the hose (using a lighter) it makes it very flexible and it goes straight on the connection because its flexible Have a great Sunday
this setup is sooo clean ... the way the plants arch over the top is amazing ... and dont get me started on the attention to detail. just 11/10. much love
As always your tank looks amazing! I have never watched one of your videos and thought, "What is he doing that for?" I just love all of your tanks! But i really like the pothos on that copper pipe and i love how the leaves of the pothos look almost exactly like the leaves on your wall hanging so it just makes the tank look like it belongs and goes with the living area so well!!
Hi MD. The tank is looking gorgeous. I totally agree with you with the kittens. I have my fish tanks, and plants. I can’t say that the cats have never gone into my things before, but you adapt to what you can get away with! Little monkeys! They’ll get into anything and everything if you don’t sit down boundaries. And you have those that will get into anything anyway. Just try it and if something happens adjust as needed. just like you said. God’s blessings to you, Stefan, Kate and the family.
I absolutely love your youtube channel. Been watching for around 3 years now. You taught me how to grow plants and build a successfull aquarium. I have had a few successfull ones now and the bug bit me hard! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us and keeping it fun while you do. All the way from South Africa
Amazing! It all works so well, the extra plants just make it become part of the room in a very sophisticated way. But where was Kates reaction? Love the series and steph is doing a great job. Can't wait to see the fish in there.
To be honest I liked it at the earlier part more. When you did put more plants into it I find it personally too much and overcrowded with plants but to each their own ofcourse. Great job, and great explanation aswell. Greetings from Holland! Enjoy your tank and family!
Loving this series! Thanks for the comment about the cats and plants; it's important for your viewers to know they should be careful, too. :) Do we have official names for the cats yet? :) Can't wait to see the fish!!
Fantastic new build. Was going to send you two bath sheets for your HOME floor! Kate will not be happy if she sees water on the floor! Love the way your family is going to select the fish, so cute. Thanks MD
The “just start” bit is such a good piece of advise bc I am a victim of getting stuck with that part. Once you start it will start to fall into place. Just start.
For the next build, ive used cable ports (the one you use on your desktop). They have variants with rubber covers aswell. Makes a neater hole and allows you to angle your filterhose aswell! Other than that, great build as usual🫶
10:51 media looks about perfect to me. As far as I know K1 media and 30PPI foam has an amazing amount of surface area, more than ceramic. Never knew this myself before I read a little into it. So nowadays I don't replace the sponges and let them run on static K1 media and 30PPI foam. Haven't had a need to clean them in ages they and run like a charm.
MD, you need to meet Mikey from Ants Canada. He's working on a tropical wetlands vivarium that I think you'd love. Keep up the great work! Love what you do, and LOVE the new kitties!
Great video! The new filming/editing style during this series is great to see. Have you ever noticed amano shrimp climbing out of the tank on the roots of the house plants?
I’m an electrician, when plumbers at work want copper pipes to stay shiny they use wire wool to take any oxidisation off the surface then they use brasso to polish it. Stays shiny for months
Hey Steph, when framing a face in video, try and avoid leaving it in the middle. A good tip would be leave 3 or 4 fingers from the top of the head from the top of the frame and you're good to go.
My house has a bunch of Pothos in pots and i have lots in my tank. The cats dont care about them at all. They’re too busy chewing on my wifes tulips :)
Ur amazing I put my 150l tank in my wall so getting jealous of plants out the top as I can't do that now lol. Keep up the amazing work. Iv watched u from the 2 sheds in ur back garden ❤
Hi love watching your videos quick note going by oase setup video you are supposed to take the media out of the net bags it is designed to be used that way as it must tumble to work properly
I think I would have just kept the top of the tank clean but have a bit more driftwood poking out from the water and cover the emmersed bits with wood and aquatic aroids like crypts or buce. But I understand the copper pole would look quite weird if it was just sitting there.
Have you tried the glass liky pipes with the built in surface skimmer? You can get them on the intake out outflow pipe. Eliminated the need for that separate device
I'd love a more detailed video introducing Steph. What is his background and how did he learn to do all the video stuff? Was it part of his previous career? Does he have pets or kids etc.?
@@glub9075 yes. It’s how we regulate the temperature of a house. I asked how hot he keeps it, as the temperature of the tank without a heater will be very close to the ambient temperature of the house.

I enjoy Steph's remarks. You are both very funny bouncing off each other. Can't wait to see what fish your children choose to put in the tank.
They'll choose the ones he says they can choose. 😉
Glo tetras 😂
Yeah I'm so happy he gets to be more than the unseen/unheard guy behind the camera
Daddy can I get some goldfish and some glow fish 😂
Hopefully he doesn't disappear in a few weeks to start his own channel. 😂

I agree. There is no going back now. Double Steph’s pay😄😉

What a great series this has been. Also now you have your friend helping, the camera work is great and the banter is pretty good too 😉😄

The PERFECT aquarium and set up from start to finish 🤌🏼🤌🏼
We all love MD’s “technical” terms. 😂
Loving this series!! And welcome Steph!
Looking great md

Love the technical terms lol. Sounds like the ones I use :) That tank is looking so good. Loving watching it develop
this setup is sooo clean ... the way the plants arch over the top is amazing ... and dont get me started on the attention to detail. just 11/10. much love
I have loved all of your tank setups but I think this one is my favorite!
If you drill your holes for the pipework coming out of the cabinet at a diagonal angle down from the outside, you'll get your pipes a little closer 😊
Great tip!
Ok thanks. Let me just order a new cabinet 😂😂
@@MDFishTanks 😂 Just give it a few months and use it as the excuse to upgrade to a bigger tank 😜🤫

So enjoying this project. Can't wait to see what fish each of your family members pick out.
You're already home 😂 Loving the banter and fun you both are having. Tank set up looks absolutely mint!
Amazing! It all works so well, the extra plants just make it become part of the room in a very sophisticated way. But where was Kates reaction? Love the series and steph is doing a great job. Can't wait to see the fish in there.

Loving everything about this series! Your tank looks amazing ❤
Hopefully we'll be seeing some Corydoras additions to this tank soon?🤞
I'm really enjoying the series. The setup looks beautiful !!

I've heard the getting stuck before even beginning referred to as "analysis paralysis" and I really love having a name for it lol
Great video! I'm in America and used to raise the lily pipe at night. Then I found a glass lily outflow with a skimmer built in. Game changer!
The skimmer is glass with a clear plastic floater. No cords!
For the next build, ive used cable ports (the one you use on your desktop). They have variants with rubber covers aswell. Makes a neater hole and allows you to angle your filterhose aswell!
Other than that, great build as usual🫶

Nice tank. Be good to see what fish your going to have
Just got my first tank Fluval Roma 240 setting it up with the cabinet tomorrow. Can't wait.

Yes Stephan, we're following. Thank you for checking :)

You say you don’t need a heater? How hot do you keep your house 24/7?
Can I recommend use a holesaw rather than a spade bit? Chipboard and plywood are not designed to be attacked by a spade bit.
yeah they were at the studio....would have taken too long 🤣
LOVE YOUR VIDEO .GOOD VIBE
Looks mint 👌🏻
The skimmer has such a huge power cord
Absolutely brilliant
I think I would have just kept the top of the tank clean but have a bit more driftwood poking out from the water and cover the emmersed bits with wood and aquatic aroids like crypts or buce. But I understand the copper pole would look quite weird if it was just sitting there.
Careful with the pothos and your kitties. But i love every single thing about this.
the cats will most likely avoid the tank but crazy people believe everyone needs to be a helicopter parent these days so... great vid ✌🏻
Have you tried the glass liky pipes with the built in surface skimmer? You can get them on the intake out outflow pipe. Eliminated the need for that separate device
So many _more_ plants
I like the project series
If you want to keep the copper shiny get some steel wool rub it real good and then hit it with a clear coat will keep the copper from oxidizing
You plant an unbelievable amount of plants. Most of the plants were from your supplier. I can’t imagine what that costs. Looks beautiful though.
I'd love a more detailed video introducing Steph. What is his background and how did he learn to do all the video stuff? Was it part of his previous career? Does he have pets or kids etc.?
Idk if Steph is there long term but he’s a great addition so far.
Looking awesome ❤
Don’t need the heater in the house? How hot do you keep your house?
The filter canister has an internal heater, I believe.
@ yes. But he said he wasn’t going to use it because it was in the house, so he didn’t need it.
@@Falcon1082a many people have thermostats in their house.
@@glub9075 yes. It’s how we regulate the temperature of a house. I asked how hot he keeps it, as the temperature of the tank without a heater will be very close to the ambient temperature of the house.
@@Falcon1082a oh right sorry i misread your question
