      Haven'[t finished watching ep4 yet but someone mentioned a fish on another channel so am passing it on to you as I would love to see you design an aquarium for them. You love tetra so have you heard of splash tetra [no idea if they are available even in the UK] because they sound as though they would be ideal for you to build an aquarium round. They are form the same region as Archer Fish and I know you love them so thought I'd pass this breed on as well.

    Hey MD, handy tip, when using those hole drills and to avoid blow out on the other size. Drill half way through the board then change the to the other size and drill half way though that side using the little pilot hole you've already drilled. Voila, clean hole. 🥴

    Tip for fitting your hose on the lilly pipes. Boil the kettle, fill a cup with boiling water. Put the end of the hose in the boiling water till its soft. Fit the hose to the lilly pipe and keep in place till it cools. We use the same hose for drains on refrigeration evaporators. Heating up the hose makes it very pliable, so you don't have to use any force on the glass. And when it cools, it contracts slightly, so it stays secure on the glass.

    Couple tips: 1st, Huge fan of OASE filters...but if you are not going to be using that heater, use the plug ( @5:39, the round object in the box with the black o-rings) and just store the heater, it'll keep you from accidentally breaking the heater when opening the entire unit. If I need to get into the filter to change floss/purigen/etc, I take make heater out (which is simple 1/4 or 1/2 turn to prevent damage (after it's been turned of for 5-10 minutes to get of residual heat).
    2nd -- when using those spade bits to drill into veneered (vinyl, lol!) plywood/particle board/mdf, don't go only from one direction. Start from the unseen or less seen side just until the small hole is pierced on one side, stop drilling, and change to the other side. This way there is no tearout (like you did ;) )<
    Looking stellar!!

    Cats get into everything. Saying that you'll keep an eye on them in the living room underestimates how fast, stubborn and sneaky they can be. All parts of lilies are extremely toxic to cats, not just eating the plants but coming in to contact with pollen or licking contaminated water is enough to cause severe symptoms. As someone with fish and cats, I was really looking forward to the use of non-toxic plants, especially because it would be different plants from what is normally used.

    • @AnonAtry
      @AnonAtry 8 дней назад +2

      my cats have been around toxic plants since young and have on occasion nibbled them, unless they eat mass amounts (unlikely given they taste awful) it really isn't as much of an issue as people make out.

      Time to introduce the Automated Aquarium Water Turret defense system. Motion activated, AI-assisted to identify and spray any approaching cat with 1m range. Excellent deterrent that anyone with an aquarium and cats needs!

    • @shunsuijiraiya2674
      @shunsuijiraiya2674 8 дней назад

      Agreed. Swap in cat safe options. Spider plants, Boston fern, Chain of hearts… anything that won’t kill your kittens should be used instead.
      Will be a big blow to your channel if you kill one of your kittens because you wanted to use a plant you know is toxic. Better safe than sorry.

    • @brandhark7935
      @brandhark7935 7 дней назад

      They’ll be fine. They would have to eat a ton of it for it to be toxic.

    Hi MD, I have used those glass lily pipes for some time now. They go beautifully with a rimless tank. My only advice to you is cut a one inch piece of the vinyl tubing, then cut it in half. Place each piece under each pipe on the rim of the aquarium. I had the suction come loose and one cracked on my tank. Thank goodness it happened while I was cleaning the tank and I was able to shut everything down. Your setup looks stunning! 🤙

    I think that would be a great idea for a set of double disconnects to make servicing the baskets super convenient and safer as far as the lily pipes are concerned. Especially with the setup being new and OASE does sell them now too . Also ordering a few extra pre filter sponges definitely will be another time saver and let you play around with the greatest canister of all. One more suggestion is to dio the ends into almost boiling water with gloves on and then once the hose cools down they will seal perfectly around the plastic barbs eliminating any chance of air being sucked in. Hopefully you have as much enjoyment with this aquarium as you can experience it with your family and making your best scapes every couple of years!!! 💚💙

    Hi MD. The tank is looking gorgeous. I totally agree with you with the kittens. I have my fish tanks, and plants. I can’t say that the cats have never gone into my things before, but you adapt to what you can get away with!
    Little monkeys! They’ll get into anything and everything if you don’t sit down boundaries. And you have those that will get into anything anyway. Just try it and if something happens adjust as needed. just like you said. God’s blessings to you, Stefan, Kate and the family.

    I think I would have just kept the top of the tank clean but have a bit more driftwood poking out from the water and cover the emmersed bits with wood and aquatic aroids like crypts or buce. But I understand the copper pole would look quite weird if it was just sitting there.

    Have you tried the glass liky pipes with the built in surface skimmer? You can get them on the intake out outflow pipe. Eliminated the need for that separate device

    If you want to keep the copper shiny get some steel wool rub it real good and then hit it with a clear coat will keep the copper from oxidizing

      @@glub9075 yes. It’s how we regulate the temperature of a house. I asked how hot he keeps it, as the temperature of the tank without a heater will be very close to the ambient temperature of the house.
