Hey Roberto. You mention that the remote is not really a good choice for non-Minix set-top boxes, but I use an A2 on my Shield TV, and absolutely love it. I've tried several other remotes, including Logitech ones, and nothing comes close to the usability of my A2.
only reason for getting this box was the microphone was going to get u1 but no mic on remote, I like the easy input instead of typing every time you search for movie ect.

Olá Roberto olha realmente o A3 parece ser um comando bom. Comprei-o com base na tua review mas estou um pouco frustrado pois não consigo po-lo a funcionar com nenhum jogo (gyroscope). Vi no video que conseguias jogar o jogo do Buggy mas eu não consigo. Num dos forums da Minix um moderador respondeu a um dos users que o "NEO A3 is no compatible is gyro gamming". Thx for this review but I should have revised it when the Minix came out .It's a good remote just little cheaply made I have a piece in mine rattling inside the remote and that usb dongle also cheap when you try to take it out if your pointer going crazy sometimes the black piece comes off..

My remote is draining battery in 2 or 3 days. Is it some function that is powered on in the remote that i have to shut it off to stop draining the battery. Please respond. Thanks in advance!
Great review Roberto . I got the MINIX NEO U9-H & A3 remote from Amazon today. Did you have any trouble with the Installed App List button working? I cant get it to open the App page & the set up is straight out the box except for the latest update. Thanks again for all the great reviews & Info.

Thanks for your in-depth reviews Roberto, as a result of which I've purchase the Minix U9-H and teamed it up with the A3 remote. I'm happy with the U9-H... but the A3 is a big disappointment! What they don't tell you in the product info on the Minix website is that the remote "goes to sleep" after just 10 seconds of use. Have you ever even heard of a remote control going to sleep? I've never heard of such a thing before - until I searched the Minix forum and found other users complaining of the same thing. What this means is, every time you go to use it, the first press of any button does not register - all it does is wake the remote up. You then need to press a button again (within 10 secs) for anything to actually happen. I'm used to pressing buttons on remotes in quick succession. With this one, you never know whether it's going to be asleep or awake. Am I supposed to count to 10 in my mind, each and every time I put down the remote? The Minix rep on the forum explained that if they didn't do this, it would chew through batteries too fast. What a pathetic excuse! As you pointed out, this remote has not just 2, not even 4, but SIX gyroscopes built in. Surely, all you should need to do to "wake it up" is to pick it up - as any movement ought to wake it, right? Minix has said in that forum thread that there will be NO FIX for this situation, despite the majority of posters there complaining about it. People are saying that they didn't have this issue with the A2 Lite, so had I known of this 'bug', I would have got that one instead. Another bugbear is the shape of the remote. Sure looks great, and feels nice in the hand too. Except when I actually go to use it, in the dark, on a daily basis, I very quickly found that IT'S TOTALLY SYMMETRICAL, which makes it an ergonomic nightmare. The problem? If, when you pick it up, it happens to be pointing the wrong way around, you have no way of knowing this until you start trying to feel for the buttons and find that they are not where you expect them to be. Then you have to rotate the thing 180 degrees! Same applies to the previous models A2 and A2 Lite. The button layout itself is fine, but remote controls should never be symmetrical, there should always be a slightly different shape at the top to the bottom, so that you can feel whether you're holding it the right way round or not, as soon as you pick it up in the dark. All in all, buying this remote was an expensive mistake :-(
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience and usage of the A3. I usually use it on the living room and that sleep function personally doesnt bother me as its not the first that i use like that. I believe that this 'sleep' issue only affects 2.4GHz remotes, and I have never had one of those before. Until now I only had infra red (IR) and those don't need to 'sleep'. Apparently the 2.4GHz variety are much more power hungry, so if they don't sleep, the batteries will soon be depleted. I found I can keep it awake by resting it on my chest (if I lie down) or on my lap if I sit. Just the tiny movements I make in breathing are usually enough to keep the gyros activated so it (mostly) stays awake. Much easier to use, but... doing this, the batteries went flat in a week!! Why don't they simply make this remote an IR instead of a 2.4GHz? Sure, IR is directional and 2.4G isn't, but that's not a great reason. Also, they could design it so that a single touch first wakes it up AND then immediately sends the button signal straight afterwards, that can't be such a hard design change to make. Maybe the A4 will be smarter :-) But still the shape is the big issue, too many times I pick it up in the dark and go to rewind 10 seconds to replay something, but because it's pointing the wrong way round I accidentally skipped fwd instead of back, oy yoy yoy, this remote does my head in :-/
If you want the perfect remote, search up the mygica backlit with voice command on Amazon... The remote is awesome! I love it. I don't like the A3 either, it's feels clunky compared to the mygica one

i have to say i like Minix. their stuff is always good. it is a slight shame they don't upgrade their android versions on their boxes... but as you say Robert, not many manufacturers do! i was gonna buy the x8h-plus lately but talked myself out of it because it was nearly (?) 2 years old now and for a device running KitKat i just found that price Vs up-to-date'ness just not worth it. the u9-H I'm really liking therefore. if Minix could in any way make that mic search button a simple 1click step to trigger global voice search that would be absolute icing on the cake.

Hey Roberto my NEO A3 was working fine in the morning went out a couple hours came home it stopped working totally, doesn't power up, put in 3 set of new batteries, I'm the only user, what could be wrong??? It's 3 month's old??? Check my WI-FI no problems there
Hi Andre, is there any light whatsoever on the remote? It sounds like it died with no aparent reason which is unusual but not impossible. I would suggest that if it remains like that you contact the seller so that he can replace your remote. I have a A2 Lite, A2 and A3 with high intensive usage and so far no issues
Thanks for the response..I move the Minix box to the bedroom with the remote that no longer worked everything works fine in the bed room...Shut the lv room stuff down for a day, move the box back to lv r everything works fine, the tv is on it's way out, 8 yr old Visio sound doesn't connect for a few mins after you turn it on, it's time..Thanks

I have a Minix Neo U1 with an A2 air mouse and A2 Lite air mouse. A2 air mouse can power off the U1 device (long press and by selecting the power off). But it cannot switch ON the device as it don’t have IR capability. A2’s wireless capability does not kick in while the device is completely off. So manually switch ON the U1 (or use the stock remote that has IR) then use the A2 air mouse. You already knew that. On the contrary, A2 Lite can switch ON the device with its IR capability. That’s why I have to buy the A2 Lite. I see Neo U9-H is bundled with A3 air mouse. Does the A3 have IR that can switch ON the U9 device from a completely OFF Status? Or should I use U9-H with A2 Lite if I want to use the air mouse to switch ON the device from a completely OFF Status??
Anyone know if this will work well with shield tv. I have the A2 today and it works great. But I miss voice control. will this remote work with voice on shield tv??
Hi Dinesh, yes it will but have in mind that there are some functions that are exclusive on Minix boxes like Turn on / Off, options key and multi task key. Everything else works great 😀
Voice search i havent tried on any other box but probably wont work as well. Yes we cannot turn On OFF (but that is not a problem as we can leave it on and it wont spend much 😀)

You would sound a lot better if you turned the bass on your mic down a little, when you mumble as you do a lot it becomes inaudible clearly, the bass needs to be reduced to make your voice clearer and more easily understood.

Eu estou mesmo a pensar em fazer um video acerca desse tópico hehe!! Android Puro dá-me mais liberdade de rápidamente instalar aps e usa-las- Apesar de conseguir fazer sideload de aps e mesmo com aps que tenho no telemovel se tornar cada vez mais fácil, não chega a ser tão fácil como no android puro. É verdade que para Android TV Os as aps estão todas optimizadas (as que se podem instalar sem sideload) mas isso torna-se por vezes numa ilimitação. Se quiseres usar o chrome por exemplo vais ter de fazer sideload e o comando que tens não vai servir, vais precisar de um wireless airmouse ou mesmo de um rato e a partir dai o Android TV é mais uma limitação que um beneficio. Depende sempre do tipo de utilização mas quem usa aps como esta que te dei o exemplo o Android Puro acaba por ser mais fácil. Por outro lado para quem usa apenas as aps tv, kodi, netflix etc o Android TV Os é mais fácil de usar :=) Abraço 👍
kdawg64 honestly all my friends say the same I've had it for almost two years now and used the batteries it came with and still using them. I use it about every single day.
My MINIX A3 needs fresh batteries about every week. Sometime the Gyroscope Pointer moves erratically,. The Keyboard sometimes becomes momentarily unresponsive. Disabled the Google Voice option because it drained the batteries in less than a day. Been using the A3 and A2 Lite (which works perfectly) for several years and haven't found anything better. Despite my issues, still love these devices. Wish there was a way to use this remote to turn my TV on and off so I don't need to use two remotes. And of course, a back light. PLEASE ! After recently updating RUclips, the Play/Pause button stopped working.
These remotes are dreadful. I've had 5 of them and have had problems with them all. The cheap chinese air mouse remotes work just fine. The Minix remotes are expensive and I wont buy them again.

Which key might be synonymous with the "Windows" key on a traditional keyboard?
why not bak lite new model so you can see it in the dark. try to read the tan on black colors for upper case shift keys.

Roberto, what's the A3 like on batteries? I thought I was definitely getting this remote until i learned it runs through batteries every few days!

Confirming that yes, the A3 does have I/R (but only for the Power button) so it can switch on a U9-H from completely off state.

Hi Dinesh, yes it will but have in mind that there are some functions that are exclusive on Minix boxes like Turn on / Off, options key and multi task key. Everything else works great 😀
Roberto Jorge what about voice search? And when u say turn on/off button will not work means, i cant switch off the box with it?
Voice search i havent tried on any other box but probably wont work as well. Yes we cannot turn On OFF (but that is not a problem as we can leave it on and it wont spend much 😀)

how to make minix remote work with nvidia shield? no mouse pointer?
You would sound a lot better if you turned the bass on your mic down a little, when you mumble as you do a lot it becomes inaudible clearly, the bass needs to be reduced to make your voice clearer and more easily understood.

Kinda unsure which one to buy then. I have a Q-box, and the remote is pretty crappy. You have to press multiple times for it to register.
What abbout the battery life???

Já agora diz ai as razões para gostares mais. Eu gosto muito do Android TV porque as aplicações funcionam todas sem necessidade de rato, como a playstore e gosto do design em geral. Acho mais "televisivo". Mas agora tou interessado na tua opinião :D

Android Puro dá-me mais liberdade de rápidamente instalar aps e usa-las- Apesar de conseguir fazer sideload de aps e mesmo com aps que tenho no telemovel se tornar cada vez mais fácil, não chega a ser tão fácil como no android puro.
É verdade que para Android TV Os as aps estão todas optimizadas (as que se podem instalar sem sideload) mas isso torna-se por vezes numa ilimitação. Se quiseres usar o chrome por exemplo vais ter de fazer sideload e o comando que tens não vai servir, vais precisar de um wireless airmouse ou mesmo de um rato e a partir dai o Android TV é mais uma limitação que um beneficio.
Depende sempre do tipo de utilização mas quem usa aps como esta que te dei o exemplo o Android Puro acaba por ser mais fácil.
Por outro lado para quem usa apenas as aps tv, kodi, netflix etc o Android TV Os é mais fácil de usar :=)

kdawg64 honestly all my friends say the same I've had it for almost two years now and used the batteries it came with and still using them. I use it about every single day.
My MINIX A3 needs fresh batteries about every week. Sometime the Gyroscope Pointer moves erratically,. The Keyboard sometimes becomes momentarily unresponsive. Disabled the Google Voice option because it drained the batteries in less than a day. Been using the A3 and A2 Lite (which works perfectly) for several years and haven't found anything better. Despite my issues, still love these devices. Wish there was a way to use this remote to turn my TV on and off so I don't need to use two remotes. And of course, a back light. PLEASE ! After recently updating RUclips, the Play/Pause button stopped working.

These remotes are dreadful. I've had 5 of them and have had problems with them all. The cheap chinese air mouse remotes work just fine. The Minix remotes are expensive and I wont buy them again.
