That's probably because this is the company that owns the distribution rights, not some random person who is breaking copyright law.
They must have loved dubbing Elias. Easy to translate words for a guy that has zero lip flaps to match up words to, lol. I wouldn't be surprised if his dialogue is pretty much verbatim to what he says in japanese.

@@blazeris1192 Yeah, the mouth movements. Elias' mouth doesn't move when he talks, so there's nothing to worry about when dubbing him in other languages - they don't have to worry about the words and timing not matching the movement of the character's mouth. I think the proper term for it called 'lip flaps', but I could be wrong.

Something is missing in both their lives. Both are broken in their own way. Both act like marionettes with cut strings. (Hmm Death Parade) Both don't truly know how to express emotions. Both need to build up trustful relationships with the people around them. Both are searching for love without even knowing the context of this word. Both have to figure their inner conflicts out. Both are weak and yet strong. And both find themselves in a world strange and unknown to them.

Fun fact: In old english lore, Fey is the proper name for Fairies and are known for their mischievous nature. Some going so far to doing very violent and dangerous pranks on unexpecting people. So yeah, Elias telling her not to trust the Fey is very true, cause they might either bring her to do something terrible, do something terrible to her, or use her due to her innate rare magical condition.
The fairy folk are those that one should always be cautious of yet respectful as well. Mischievous is putting it very light with lots of butter and sugar.

I've always loved Celtic mythology and old English magic, this show does a wonderful job of orchestrating that into a more modern context. I love this show, it's beautiful.

I don’t know really anything about this show, but based on the 3 minutes I’ve seen and the context you might want to check out “The Vision of Escaflowne,” which takes place in an duplicate, magical version of Earth hidden away from the real one
This show is literally the only thing that can bring me back out of depression. It's honest, interesting, sharp yet beautiful.
And chise is fighting her own depression throughout it. She learns to be strong. and I think it transfers to the viewer too
You should really look into what aspects are making you happy. Then you can find more media that makes you happy and pinpoint where in your life the cause of depression is.
Check out Mushishi for another anime with a calm, yet powerful vibe.

That’s how the author sees it, too. Supposedly she was dissatisfied with the ending where the beast turned into a handsome prince, so that became an inspiration for this.

Oh yeah, and the music .... I still find Hanezeve Caradhina - Made in Abyss to be the greatest/most beautiful anime song, but The Ancient Magus' Bride has a strong soundtrack as well.

Season 2 confirmed, but with no date. They are recasting voice actors.
As far as dubs go, which can be super hit or miss, I'm actually fairly happy with this one! I feel like they really found voices that properly matched the characters, especially Elias's.
Also here's hoping that one day we get more!

Just saying... and remember to those who think this is about "pampering" her as a child bride.. She's 16/17 years.. He's a fey being.. Fey's don't have ages. He's physically older than humans, but mentally about the same age as her since he didn't start understanding humans til late. Besides that, many fey beings don't care for time..
and besides.. weren't mage 'couples' have a stronger bond when teaching one other? It's def not a romantic relationship but a caretaker/teacher.

I just started watching this series two days ago, I'm almost done. It has it's entertaining parts, it is a bit of a roller coaster. It is definitely a hidden gem.

They are using one of 2 forms of English pronunciations of an English name. The Japanese pronounce it wierd due to their linguistics.
It’s old English- I don’t have a degree but there’s so many interpretations of certain phrases and words in that language so it’s hard to say.

The person who essentially mentors HIM basically just told him that a wife you marry is just someone who stays with you always. Throughout the series, he has very little if no romantic feelings or interest in Chise. They are still very close and emotionally connected, but not romantically.

I know she isn't exactly good nor bad, but Jade Ariel (apparently her "official" fan name) is one of my favorite characters that gets too little screen time in my opinion. However we all know Silver Lady/Silky is best girl and character in this anime!
I watched this so many times ever sense it first came out a long time ago. It’s my favorite anime but I haven’t seen in sense maybe a year ago. I said “I love how quiet and relaxing this anime is..” and then the loud as* Outro 😂
I originally read the books on this. Then watched the anime. I absolutely loved Elias but wondered what he was.
I recently saw some stuff about Wendigos and finally realized what Elias was. It explains a lot. Such as his desire to eat human flesh.
Wendigo doesn't make sense. The show has been pretty clear that the creatures and spirits shown tend to remain relatively "region locked" to the area their myths originate from. For example, Chise was familiar with the various spirits she saw in Japan, but once in Britain she had no clue the nature of the creatures she saw. If I remember correctly, Lindel said he was in a fairly north-northeastern part of Europe when he found Elias walking through the woods. The Wendigo is a Native American myth, so unless Elias walked across half the globe to get to Europe, I doubt that's his classification.
Personally, I'm more of the mind that he's some sort of Jinn. They can take various animal forms, can become shadow itself, and are known to be either malicious or benevolent, depending on their temperament. They also commonly take on an anthropomorphized form, but can't help but retain at least one or two animal traits (like his Markhor-like horns - an animal indigenous to the middle east) while in that form.
MadameDeForklift Elias’ entire backstory is somewhat odd and he does break a few rules, sense he is only part Fae and not fully. Now, regardless of what he is or was, how he ended up here is one of the greater mysteries surrounding him
Even if Yamazaki ever confirms this, it will end up being a very inaccurate portrayal of the wendigo, even calling elias a chimera makes more sense
His character design reminds me more of the Welsh Mari Lwyd.

But y’know what I’m gonna give it a go
We don't watch alot of anime (For many good reasons), But seeing this for the first time and we're instantly hooked! It's beautiful, peaceful and the characters feel so warm and friendly. An interesting take on the Beauty and the Beast tale (Which is our most favorite fairytales.) This world of theirs is so peaceful, We wish we could live there. Also, Loving the two main characters. They make the cutest couple!

I put off watching this anime for a long time but I watched it last month and it's amazing . the story line is great and the old wizard finding out he has a heart is a nice addition to the story. I only wish they would do a season 2 of this one

They've done it several times in the past. Usually just the first episode though. Check their playlists

Dude for the 1st episode of Ancient Magus Bride that someone told me about like wow this is truly beautiful and the music has a Celtic lore to it which makes me love it even more on top of this being about the Faye, Magic, Faerie's ect this has truly captured my interest just on the 1st episode :o HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THIS SOONER?!?

I love this show and how it shows magic and the fay. to often magic is treated like a video game. just say it or wave your hand and big giant fireballs. this went more the learning route and needing specific things to get specific results. and the fay ohhh by the eldritch horror the fay. most time in modern media the fay are just humans with pointing hear and wings that just want to help humanity cause thats what they do. here they are literally otherworldly beans with different views and ways of life that dont always gel with us humans. this anime shows the good the bad and why their are so many fairy tales telling you be smart, respectful, and couses with the unknown.
