I feel like I've seen that car somewhere before... Nice to see another Miata vid! I hate working with brake fluid. Would be nice if they had quick disconnects. Like the big hydraulic lines for quick jacks. :D
I am going to change my whole break system (Master Cylinder, hoses, calipers) I was thinking of getting an OEM master cylinder... but how did this aftermarket NAPA workout for you?
It has been fine so far, I didnt go OEM cus I wanted one that day and the closest dealer was a 30-40 min drive plus the cost...if your planning ahead and can afford it I would still get the OEM, will last the longest!
This is great information! Do you happen to have any experience with those aftermarket brake "braces" that connect at the strut top and put pressure against the master cylinder to keep the firewall from deflecting? I have NO experience with those, but I've been curious if they make a difference.
Hi Gearheads, awesome vid man! could I ask a question? Is yours for Non-ABS or ABS? I bought the same replacement brake master cylinder for my 91' NA MIATA NON-ABS as the one you fixed in your video, but was told by the Mechanic that it is for ABS.
Mine is non-abs. Follow your brake lines and look at where the fittings go on the master cyl. If they are in the same exact location and the lines go out and straight to the brakes instead of a pump assembly then its non ABS. As for part #'s etc I dont remember it has been too long but you should be able to cross reference and search them.
this is gonna be a long one, so get ready (copying and pasting the post i made on a forum) P.S. I have a 95 NA no abs I recently did a complete brake service as I have installed new calipers (remanufactured oem) pads, rotors, and stainless steel lines. additionally i had to install two new hard lines as the originals stripped when i tried removing the old calipers/lines. My problem came when I began bleeding the brakes as although my rear brakes went smoothly, i could not get any additional pressure to come from my front brakes. I initially thought it was an issue with the master cylinder as it looked like there might be a slight puncture in the seal and when moving the cylinder side to side you could see an air bubble form. Additionally, when i would have someone press the brake pedal, i could hear a "breathing" noise that sounded like air entering and leaving the system. Today I replaced the master cylinder and although now if I pump the brakes a bunch i get some pressure, the pressure doesn't remain for long and I still hear the "breathing" sound though not as often and not as loud as last time. I have not yet bled the brakes since installing the new master cylinder (although i bench bled the master cylinder itself though I don't think i did too good a job). UPDATE: So a little update, the car now has brake pressure although its nearly non-exhistant. I Bled the brakes twice using different methods and I'm sure there are zero bubbles in the system (i used a clear tube bled till no air on each wheel, still didn't have a lot of pressure and bled it again, this time saw no air bubbles at all). so I would say I can rule that out. I did not see any leaks anywhere and had a friend pump the brakes so i could see and hear for leaks, nothing. After replacing the master cylinder, when car was on jacks and i had it in first, i could hold the brakes and it would slow the wheels but was not enough to make the car stall. Now, its just enough to make the car stall but i would expect it to not take much pressure to stall the car when its just on idle. Also, when the car is on, the pedal has zero resistance until the very bottom which is when the brakes are finally able to stop the wheels. Im completely lost as the calipers are rebuilt oem calipers so compatibility shouldn't be an issue, the S.S. lines are from flying miata so I can't imagine them being the problem, from what i could see there is no air in the system and I have to assume that the completely new master cylinder I got doesn't have any leaks. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Im sorry you are having so much trouble man but this definitely is a hydraulic issue of some sort. Either your master is bad or you still dont have the system properly bled even tho you think it is. Idk if you may have installed the calipers on the wrong site with the bleeder upside down ot something like that but if you cant figure it out it may be time to take it to a shop and let them diagnose it and tell you whats going on. This happens to everyone at some point when learning and its okay to need help! You still can learn through the experience.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannelCannot believe this but you were right, the calipers were on the wrong side/upside down. One of my more "experienced" friends installed the calipers in the front and i guess he must have mixed them up. Thank you for the advice and keep up the good work on the videos!
Yea...idk if your talking about under the booster or the rest of the car but its all bad. I got it kinda detailed today and its so depressing how some of it looks so nice and all the clear coat peeling kills it.
One of the best and clear explanations on how to bleed brakes. Thank you very much!
Thanks, been needing to do this for months but been too lazy, this kind of motivated me to get it done.
Thats great! you saying things like that motivates us to do more too!
You can bleed the master cylinder in the car right? With the brake lines disconnected?
I just wanted to say I appreciate you my guy, this was really helpful.
Love your videos, good to see you are back working on miatas!
Thank you!!
Thank you!!! Best video I could find, just got my miata back on the road with your help
Whoa, new vid AND it's Miata?!! YASSSS

Yea brake fluid sucks! But anything is better than gear oil :P
Welcome back!
Thank you!!
What's funny is that my issues are happening in the same order as yours haha. My heater core was leaking and now my master cylinder is lol
Im sorry 😂
Thanks a lot nice video
I have the same problem from the fluid leaking underneath my BMS and it just ruined the paint :(
Woohoo, I clicked immediately!
Thanks! Its been awhile dont think anyone knows 😂😂

I do not actually! would be curious to try one out but I have to say Its never been an issue for me..

I just noticed that the master on my moms 92 sby is leaking. The paint under the master is *fucked* :(
Happened to mine too. Clean it up and paint it so it doesnt rust!
Oooooh. That paint is choice 😬
