I’m using my blender to “erase” a bit, if I’ve drawn over the edges. But thanks for your tips!
Jazza describes it as "blending between the color of the paper itself into the color", which I think makes more sense.
I do this too!!
@@Captain_Mink nope
same! works like a charm : )
I got copic markers last year and i did not know how to use them so i messed up a lot and this video helped me thanks
Thanks a lot for your kind comment :) I am glad that the video was helpful for you ;)
The blender actually works, most people just happen to use it the wrong way.
To blend colours, you first need to put down a layer of colourless blender. Afterwards put the colours you want to blend on top of that. Be sure to apply a bit of pressure with your marker to push the colours into eachother until you have a seamless gradient.
Thanks for your tip! :)
ohmygoshthankyou💙
It's also very useful for removing streaks when you don't want to add another layer.
This is why I read comments

Lol I hate when people think they'll draw better if they get copics/tablet or whatever. Sometimes all you need are pencil , paper and practice. 3P's
So true!
But i broke my other tablet ._. I mean it's almost my birthday so yay ;-;
When i got my tablet i drew alot better actually
It happens to me too, good thing I'm not nice.
I also did better with a new tablet. :P But I was lucky enough to go from a 10+ yr old Wacom to a knock off drawing monitor. My line arts improved in leaps and bounds. Digital painting is a transition...
But I do agree the materials only take you so far... I had years of experience with a tablet and the new one just improved one of my weak areas because I knew how to make line art traditionally already and i'd just finished inktober... The only time I think materials will matter is in the limits the cheaper ones have such as the lack of color options of water based markers... And the fact that they stain from other colors where the more expensive alcohol (not copics alone) can clean that ink out... But the more expensive is still useless if you have no skill to couple or experience to add... A copic cant make a oval a circle... But practice could.
I just told my mom
"Ay mom can I get copic markers"
And she just said "sure" *i have the best parents and grandparents in the world*
Bet you didn't tell her the price before she said yeah 😂😂
Well how does that feel? My parents would smack my butt
Same lmao

heres a tip: if your marker alcohol marker dries out shake it for 2 minutes and it will look perfectly fine agian
thank me later :)
omg i do this with my felt tip eyeliners! Which means there’s no way it doesn’t work, since the pens are the same concept. Thank you for this tip! Just got my first set of markers (:
THANK YOU SO MUCH I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THIS ALL THE COLOURS I USE OFTEN JUST DRY OUT
there's also a reason why your marker dries out! if you leave it standing, the ink will flow to the bottom, making the top dry.
At first I read it as shake it for 2 hours, not 2 minutes. I was like dang girl, your biceps must be hella strong 😂 I’ll have to try this! This sounds like the easiest way that I’ve seen so far.
The alarm sound at the mistakes is so accurate to what does through your head when you mess up

I straight up tell my friends no as nice as possible cus I'm nice but not nice enough to lend my expensive markers lol. I'll offer my cheaper ones instead if they just need any kind of marker. (I keep water based markers since I like them too and I'll lend those out)
learn to say no! copics are too expensive to just let someone borrow it.

THANK YOU FOR THE COLORLESS BLENDER TIP. I'M A PRETTY NEW ARTIST AND I THOUGHT TJAT THE MARKERS I WAS USING WERE REALLY BAD.
Thank you for your kind comment :) I am glad that the video was helfpul for you!
The blender is actually a really good CORRECTOR. Little bits of color that are painted out of the lines can be bleached away or some people say "push" the color to where it's supposed to be, has long has the color area where you did your little doodoo is white, if it's on an area already painted you'll bleach out both colors : )
Thanks for your tip :) I've tried this long time ago too and it really worked (but just for very minor mistakes). But lately I am just too lazy to correct my mistakes with a blender, instead I try to improvise :D
But this would have been another good point for the video! Maybe there will be a part 2 somewhen in the future^^

my mom bought my copic markers while I was watching anime cuz I have no life but she bought 77$ dollar copic markers and I didn't know and I said you know what you just did she said yes ik how much you wanted them and you couldn't find where to get them so I bought them for you and I am still waiting for a new sweatshirt cuz I'm a 11 year old and I'm emo af XD but when my markers get here I'm officially dead 😃
You have to be at least thirteen to be on RUclips. Get off of RUclips.

Actually the way to use a colorless blender is that you have to use the blender FIRST. You kay down a layer of colorless ink and then lay down the colors you want to blend on top of that. If you want more blending then you go back and use the blender again.
Thanks for your tip! I never ever heard about that before, that's definitely something I will try out :)

The blender, an artists greatest enemy
So true :D
I have some tips while drawing with markers!
- If you are drawing with pencil, you can dab the blender to the pencil lineart so i does not smears the line art!
- you can use blender to fix mistake! If you color out of the line, you can use the blender to fix it!
- i would recommend using cheaper marker before going to copics. Copics is a professional markers. They are also too expensive rather than a cheaper marker price is, and try to learn on how to use a marker first! Then you can go to copics!
Edit : I got these tips from my sister! She is really good at drawing!

When I got copic markers for the first time my friend ( who had never used copic markers before ) had tried to use the colorless blender to blend two browns together. I got so mad at her because she ended up using so much ink that it bleed onto a drawing I liked and I tried to explain that’s now what the colorless blender does. She didn’t believe me.
I’ll just send her this video
;D
And THIS is why I don't trust my friends with my alcohol markers! 😂
Two of my friends would just use them to draw "tatoos" on themselves, and I just know another friend I have would just sit there and BEG me to use them, and then use them on printer paper/notebook paper.

Tip: *when you want to blend with the colourless blender, put it down on the paper first so the ink flows, or use it to drag the dark colour into the light area gently, then blend as normal without it. You can get smooth gradients either way.*
1 more thing, never lend your markers to anyone who isn't an actual artist. They will press down so hard and ruin it. Rest in peace my marker babies
How to avoid streaking; colour in a cirkular motion, not back and forth :) You will get a more even result :) I cant belive it have been over 6 years since i got my first copic markers :D Time go so fast :)
Thanks a lot for this tip! :) I will definitely try that in my next marker artwork^^
Np :D for large backgrounds I would recomand using watercolor, it goes faster :) And look pretty similar to copic XD :)

Hey can i ask you something? When i color the skin i cant always color it in a circular motion cause i have to avoid the eyes and mouth so i just have to color it in forth and then switch to back (to fill the face)... Thats when i get streaky areas with darker tone of color lines in the skin :((( How can i fix that?? Also 2 layers make the skin look darker than it must be!! Pls help me :(((

FYI a colourless blender is a great tool, if you know how to use it. You need to layer down the colourless blender first, then go over the top with the colours. It just simply helps blend the two colours together with out the consistent layering.

Love it! So helpful and very humorous at the same time!
Your sense of humor is fantastic! thank you for the wonderful and educational video :D
NeoPiko call their "colorless blender" the "Solvent" which I think is better because solvents usually correlate with removers of sorts.
Why in the hell do they even call it that
Technically you can use it to blend into white if you want the effect of a shine without harsh line.
Another technique is the "tip-to-tip" method where you can place the tip of a colored Copic to the tip of a Colorless blender to create a lighter shade.
The third method I've seen people do with the colorless blender and actually use that one first, pretty much wetting the area with colorless ink to let you lay down a smooth layer of color, and it does make it easier to blend on top of it since it's better to blend wet-on-wet ink.
So yes you can use it to blend, just not in a way that seems well...obvious to use. I didn't know about the third way until about 3 years ago when I saw somebody do that at a worshop.
Awesome way of illustrating these 'mistakes' newbies and the overly excited might make. Video makes the points very clear. VERY WELL DONE!
Thanks a lot :)
Aww wait, why is this the cutest video? I love your style!
I JUST like 15 minutes ago bout a blender to "blend my colors" and now I am learning that that isn't even what it does💀
the colourless blender 3:34 is my fav part
MINTMON * u

... With the colourless blender, you put that down first then do the other colour/s on top of it. The clear alcohol ink makes it easier for the colour to spread into each other
That's a great tip, thank you! I will try that out later :)

funny turtle I've had mine for some time and didn't know how to use it, so i kept ruining it by mistake (trying to figure out how to use it) i didn't know what it was called to look it up
Just a little thought. Use something other than marker paper. Marker paper is too thin. That's why you're getting that Feathering. It's not that you're using too much ink, it's your paper. Good video though.
Thanks, I will try that! Honestly I still like my marker paper, mostly because I don't waste too much ink and I can easily blend the colors. I tried them out in my mixed media sketchbook and in this one the colors are all looking slightly different. I didn't expect that ^^" But you're right, marker paper is super thin.
I use straight up drawing paper with a paper to catch extra ink or mix media paper. It usually works out well enough for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you know its going to get saturated you can try Poster/cardstock. Its a bit heavier but cheaper then copic paper. Still has the slight bleed but it can take a lot more abuse. I buy the art tiles of card stock too they hold up against markers and water colors great but they are smaller. Good for doodles to sell or practice.
Mix media paper is good but I find it a little too absorbent. I use 110lb cardstock which I find works the best
Junifarben Illustration Have you tried Hammermill Color Copy Digital (100lb) paper? It's on Amazon, and for the price (around 15-20 USD) you get 250 papers. I find it excellent for Copics, and there are plenty of people who use it in place of Copic Xpress it paper.
Hey, what liner black pens do you use so the markers do not smear please or does anyone have any recommendations?
Hahaha I loved the video! It was very informative and also funny :) I will look forward to your videos
Thank you so much :)
AHAHAAHA YOUR VOICE IS SOOOO CUTEE

Best name for the colorless blender! 😂😂😂
;D
oh i love this, i mean i learned soooo much but had so much fun doing it! Love your voice as well as your cute drawings. Im hooked and maybe ill even treat my markers better
qûestion plz repile of my paper bleeds through after doing over 2 times does it soak the ink from the marker?
Haha, I always use the blender marker to color by touching another marker to it. I always thought it wasn't a legitimate technique until now.
Actually, you are using the wrong paper. That’s why yours bleeds and looks patchy. The “marker paper” is actually really bad. Your gonna want to use something thicker like Bristol board, cardstock, if mixed media paper
To be fair, thicker paper makes the markers bleed as well. I find Marker Paper to make them bleed the least, but I don't like the way it looks for some reason.. Thing is, when you use really thick paper you actually waste more ink, due to the paper sucking up more :/
Dana H
I use sketch paper, lmao. It's kind of in between. Not too thin, not too thick. The ink lasts forever and the markers don't bleed a lot
It dont really suck up too mutch ink, I have 6 years of experience with copics and watercolour paper XD I had the same markers for 6 years and only a few ( 5 of over 100 markers are now dry) of the ones I used the most went dry! :D I did alot of full coloured A3 and A4 drawings too :) I think it comes down to preference though! But i wouldent recomand marker paper, it is over priced ( at least in my land! i can buy a 500 pages watercolour A3 block for 20 dollar, but marker paper with 100 thin pages cost 40- 50 dollar) And you can only blend and lay on colours to a certain point before you draw a hole in the marker paper ^^; And i get nervous since the paper is so thin! thick paper is more durable in the end :) But thats my preferance XD
nahgem, I've found that Bristol works best for me.
The best would be X press it Blending Card
Thank you so much I just got my first pack of achole based markers not knowing much about them! This helps so much thank you! ❤️
mam can u plese tell me which paper should i use ?
is watercolour papers fine ?
Love this video! So glad you posted it 🙂
Thanks a lot for your kind words :)
I know this video is old but you can actually blend with the colourless blender! You just can't really blend two colours or a dark colour. The blender works best as... Well a blender when you are trying to blend a light colour out into the paper. Mid to dark colours don't blend as well. Other good uses for the blender is correcting small colouring mistakes and creating cool textures and effects.
Does not using to much ink count for a paint pen? Cause I have a big krink paint pen and I keep layering over and over (because it look cool)
Where do I get the magical color blender? I bought 24 piece pack and trying to figure those out.
another good tip- don’t let random people at school use your expensive markers. i brought my markers into school first time i ever got them in 7th grade bc i was so proud of them (i’m now a freshman in high school) but this random kid asked to use them and i knew they were high quality but i let him anyway and THIS LITTLE SHIT uses the brush side of my copic and starts jABBING HIS PAPER to make fucking POKA DOTS. i snatched that out of his hand so fast oh my god people who don’t know how to take care of supplies annoy me so much to the point if i bring in my prismacolour coloured pencils in i wont even let them use those bc i’m not letting them end up snapped in half like every other wooden pencil in a school.
Wow, that's a crazy story :D It's heartbreaking even just to read that super expensive stuff was used to do some doodles 😱 If I was in that situation, I would have died XD
That's why I don't even let people come near my pencil case. XD
I let some kid use one of my prisma colors and he pressed down super hard and when I tried sharpening it later on it was all weird and messed up
That's exactly why I always leave the good quality supplies home
Thanks for the tips juni ;) i was always wondering why i couldn't use the blender properly...now i know 😂😂😂
I am glad that I could help you ;D
Can I use the paper on the moleskine sketchbook?
Is it bad that I use the colorless blender as a blending stump for pencil? It seems to work just fine
I have a bit of a question, I use the “mix media” canson sketch book with my copics, is that fine? Because sometimes they bleed though but other times the don’t... :/
I know they have a specific line of pads for markers, try finding those.
you are so cute i legitimately almost cried

They were quite expensive and they're from arttx, so Im concerned whether Im doing something wrong or they just stop working after a few weeks and If I am doing something wrong, can sum1 explain what Im doing wrong?
