Plot twist: Shane actually did bake me a cake today. It was delicious!! He is the best! ❤️🥰 P.S. I've got some other great beginner tips for coloring with pencils in your coloring books here: ruclips.net/video/62QQ7hBOfgE/видео.html
Fantastic video as usual , I do use this technique of combining markers and pencils together quite a lot when coloring in my adult coloring books , your quite right it saves so much time and doesn’t wear your pencils down so fast .Love your channel, you have such a wonderful personality,it really shines through , you always put a smile on my face . If I could I’d make you a cake you definitely deserve one 😃🧁
I have recently just got back into sketching and colouring its very therapeutic. I received my new prismascolour pencils and purchased ohuhu markers last week. This is so so helpful thankyou from a grateful mumma getting some me time 💜🙌
Yesterday I found this tutorial, sketched a doughnut and within like 45 minutes my colouring had improved 10 fold, thank you so much! Normally I just learn towards markers only for illustration, but I'm going to incorporate this.
I have yet to combine markers and pencils, the combination of the two together looks so good. Funny ending, your drawings and video presentation is top notch 😍😍😍
I am 11 I make illustration with colour pencils + watercolors Sarah your tutorial and your motivation always support me and tell me to be like you one day may your smile always be the same love you😘
Thank you so much for this video!!!! ... I never combined markers and colour pencils together..so I am really excited to try it out 💜 thanks again for this colouring trick!
This video came at the perfect time. Was planning to try this combo out. Trying to make a cute welcome home bunny for my Daughter who was born yesterday. I made a Lion for my son when he was born. I only had colored pencils back then. Thanks for the great videos.
I have a similar style when using colored pencils, except I use them with my watercolors (which are my main and first medium). Pencils are great for details and adding some slight shift in color in some parts of the illustration. I only have a set of skin tone and gray markers, but maybe I'll try using them with my pencils too!
Thanks for the tips! ☺️ I have been doing a lot of digital art lately but I want to color something (probably my coloring book when it arrives) in with pencils soon too ☺️
Yet another awesome video! I have wondered in the past why I didn’t inherit the artistic creativity that my mothers side of the family had (I got the English professor genes 🤓) With every one of Sarah’s videos I learn something that really encourages me and I find myself really enjoying just the whole act of coloring…. in some ways more even than I used to when I was into coloring, when my children were very little Coloring, drawing and painting were tools I used daily and with much (fun) success when all my kids were little. Everyone totally enjoyed creating with them. I am positive that it made my (clinical) depression more manageable. I find that coloring and “aromatherapy” which to me means going through my ton of scented lotions and picking them up at random and smelling them. LOL umm…candles. There’s a brand I really like but they are just not price friendly for me
Thanks for this video!! I’ve combined colored pencils and markers before but watching this video made me realize I should do it more often!! I actually just finished a coloring page yesterday that had this massive moon in the background and I didn’t like it very much and I didn’t want it to be the focus of the page but it took longer to color than the entire rest of the page combined, which was frustrating for me and I ended up hating that stupid moon by the time I was done! Now I see I could have saved SO much time by coloring it with a marker first and then just adding a few shadows and highlights at the end with my pencils. Good to know for the future! Side note, my three year old found the coloring page on the table this morning, said “this is trash now” and crumpled it into a ball and threw it in the trash so… there’s that.
I'm a bit late as always, but I just watched this with my sister and it was a blast! You are a genius!! I just got my first set of blendable alcohol markers, can't wait to start learning to use them. 🙂 Thank you!!!
Watching this way too late. I'm drawing since a long time but with lots of breaks and coloring was always something I wanted to learn without keeping an eye on references all the time. It's really impressive how you bring motives to life. The only thing I'm struggling with is the right paper. I used bristol one from Strathmore which is better than Deleter in my opinion. The vellum one I didn't know and it's hard to find in Germany same as Prismacolors :( 🙈 I like watching your vids ♡
I've been watching your videos for a little while now and I'm so happy I found your videos it has helped and inspired me to create more art and practice my techniques. Keep up the hard work and I hope you succeed in all your endeavors 💖 can't wait for more videos to come.
Great video as usual. Discovered you this week and my joy in coloring and art in general has been revitalized. Question: where is the post about the hand (holding a camera?) that was promised at 10K views? I would love to see it.
Hi Sarah! I love your revews and tutorials, are so useful! I hope you can do a review about Tombow Irojiten Color dictionary, please💕 send you a lot of love from México💕😍
I found you today. I am new in the coloring pencils world as adult. It is a new tools for me and challenging. I love the way you colored the donuts. What colors of markers and pencils did you use for the pink one? I watched some of your viseos , but they are so fast for me to learn. Any videos you have in slow pace for newbies like me. A lot of great information , but i feel overwhelming. I dont plan to be a pro, but i want my pages look beautiful. I admired your talent and amount of time you put in your videos. Sending hugs to your path!

Hi again ma'am Sarah! Remember me for requesting brutfuner oil pencils for your next review? I am Thristan, from the Philippines, and I am an artist focusing on cartoon, anime and pop art styles. Actually, i am just a beginner in these styles. I currently have a set of 80 alcohol markers and a set of 120 colored pencils will come in a few days. Could someone explain the step where she highlighted the doughnut with white then went over it again in another colour to make it smooth? How does that work? I'm no artist, just wanting to pick up little tips for my colouring books lol.
quick inquiry I recently bought myself some Aqua Brushes with a 2 in 1 pencil one side being your regular marker from germany made by llyra I was just wondering if they were worth the hundred dollars I spent on them and if they act as a good substitute for water coloring if you dont want to get all your water and your paints out and paint traditionally - I also love how you took your shot at the end. Its a shame that Shane didn't come through tho
Hello, do you know which set of ohuhu markers you purchased by chance? I have a few sets but don't have all the colors. I have the pastel sets (blossom and sweetness) of 96 markers and a set of 48 colors from the Honolulu B series. I also have the the 120 set of water based markers but IDK if the numbers correlate. I'm trying my hand at this and will hopefully film/share soon but I really would love to do a follow along of yours first as practice! Thanks again for all you and your team do. You have really inspired me.
Hello @Sarah Renae Clark! First, THANK YOU…you add so much to the community! From your excellent video tutorials to the INVALUABLE Coloring Companion system, you truly are an inspiration! I had a question for you, and this particular video seemed the most appropriate place to ask, but PLEASE don’t feel obligated to do so. My primary mediums are watercolor and colored pencils; though I have alcohol markers, I’ve had some ambivalence about using them. So here’s my quandary: *I’m making a keepsake “book” for my daughter, as she’s graduating from high school this year. Although the pictures will (obviously) be in book form (vs. hanging on a wall), I DO still want it to have stability for many years to come, hence the “keepsake” aspect. I know regardless of their base, most markers (except the rare pigment-based options) are dye-based and fugitive in nature. I wanted to use them as a base layer, then color over top with lightfast pencils (Derwent Lightfast, C.D. Luminance, etc). Do you think the underpainting would ultimately fade or disappear, negating the use of lightfast pencils in the first place?* I realize that not all areas will receive as many layers of the pigment-rich pencils, but I doubt I’d leave an area ENTIRELY untouched by pencils. I’d also avoid the “universal offenders” like neons. Can you please give your advice? In the event you feel the markers are a no, would you be able to suggest any alternatives? I’d use watercolor, but this paper won’t support that much wet media, unless I first coat it with a gesso/matte medium. I also have watercolor pencils and water soluble pastels. Perhaps closest to my goal of being fast AND fairly lightfast, I’ve got some Inktense blocks that I sometimes use (especially when I can’t use all that water I just mentioned), and some FC Pitt pens, but in both cases I’m concerned that, as most of the colors are EXTREMELY saturated and deep, they would not only be unforgiving, but may not be light enough for a base layer that would allow for colored pencils to show in the manner I’d like (as you elucidated in the video). *Please note: Though it should go without saying, I’d never hold your opinions/suggestions as a guarantee of any kind; I just genuinely love your work and would love your input.* (I hate that we live in a society where a “hold harmless” seems necessary, but I would never want YOU to feel responsible for MY work, or have anyone else read this comment and take any response as gospel.) As I said at the beginning of this novel, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Even if you don’t answer my question, I’ll forever be grateful for your resources and will continue to eagerly await new videos, and hopefully even a reply to this question! 🤗💕
While markers are not “lightfast”, they aren’t going to fade to a point of disappearing completely. Most people don’t even notice a fade after many years. The difference is that the vibrancy will fade a bit, and certain colors might change a bit. Any water-based medium is going to have the same issue. “Lightfast” pencils are designed to last 100 years at the same colors. If you want this to look perfect forever, that’s really your best option. But if it were my project, I’d be ok with mixing mediums at the risk of it slowing fading over time. Even the paper comes with a risk of aging (unless you buy archival acid-free paper too, which is expensive) and there’s an expectation with anything in life that heirlooms or gifts won’t look pristine forever. But that’s just a personal opinion! I hope the overall advice helps with your decision, either way x
@@SarahRenaeClark Thank you so much! Your message is immensely helpful (and FAST)! You’re amazing, Girl! I have some paper recommendations here: ruclips.net/video/JrSwJF-35FM/видео.html (Markers are mentioned about halfway in) But for markers, an illustration or marker paper is best. Something bleedproof or made for blending. Personally, I love Xpress-it blending card if markers are my main medium.
“The Art Gear” RUclips channel has done a beautiful drawing of Ahsoka from Star Wars using markers and pencils together. He’s achieved some really nice depth and detail which looks great. It’s definitely a good hack if you actually own markers. 🙂
There are 3 options I know of: 1. Get marker paper. It can handle more layers so you can really flood it to remove streaks. Paper makes a huge difference! 2. Use pencils on top like I did, just to smooth out the streaky areas or add more texture 3. If it’s really bad, you might just need to try another brand of markers

It’s the perfect go-between, right? The best of both worlds.
Thanks for sharing the technique :D I will try to do it in my illustrations I love the texture

Great but what when marker will fade?
Back in the mid 20 teens, before gels, I did a picture with pencils, markers and crayons!

*Please note: Though it should go without saying, I’d never hold your opinions/suggestions as a guarantee of any kind; I just genuinely love your work and would love your input.* (I hate that we live in a society where a “hold harmless” seems necessary, but I would never want YOU to feel responsible for MY work, or have anyone else read this comment and take any response as gospel.)
As I said at the beginning of this novel, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

“The Art Gear” RUclips channel has done a beautiful drawing of Ahsoka from Star Wars using markers and pencils together. He’s achieved some really nice depth and detail which looks great. It’s definitely a good hack if you actually own markers. 🙂
Love all your work and techniques tyfs.
What markers are you using
Ya exactly with best of markers and best of pencils and with best of teacher.

Question i use crazy art markers how can i color any picture without streak markers
There are 3 options I know of:
1. Get marker paper. It can handle more layers so you can really flood it to remove streaks. Paper makes a huge difference!
2. Use pencils on top like I did, just to smooth out the streaky areas or add more texture
3. If it’s really bad, you might just need to try another brand of markers
I do a lot of markers and pencils together =)
