I have two Milwaukee impact drivers, the M12 and the M18. I love them both. The M12 stays in my 18 wheeler and gets used for all kinds of things on the road. The M18 stays in my tool box at home. It makes quick work of driving screws into concrete walls around the house. I had never heard of a hex impact driver until I got the first one of these. I’m impressed with them now.
I currently own both of the Makita td170 and the td171 which are the japanize equivalent of these...and I also have the gen3 Milwaukee... It definitely has more torque...but has some software glitches like going in forward with the reverse mode on...not activating when I pull the trigger...and well the spring tension on the hammer is just to tight for comfortable all day handling... I took the gen3 apart and added a button to change modes like on the Makita xdt16...love it...the gen3 is great if you are putting big screws in all day...but for 90percent of most carpenters screws the Makita will outperform...because the bit won't lose contact with the screw as fast...(remember I said something about the spring tension)...anyway...the Makita is water proof...the Milwaukee is not...just take it apart and see...the rubber molding on the inside is not nearly as tough as what Makita uses...also on the gen3 the outer rubber molding is not nearly molded to the tool as well as the Makita or the gen2 Milwaukee, which was more like Makita's pro impact drivers...on every Makita model they make the latest one is always more waterproof then the last...and more dust resistant...
When I was in construction our cordless was Makita and corded was milwaukee. Dropped my Makita 12v at the time from the 2nd floor, and never missed a beat, just kept on working.
Get what you like if. It works for you did you buy the extended warranty because you only get a. 90 day one out the box just make sure you buy Bette bits if you can best you can for your money I got a 40 year b&d jigsaw 7580 I rebuilt it myself I make sure to use DeWalt and Bosch u shank blades and it works like a champ for it's age if you did not buy a warranty and you pass your 90 days and you're good with your hands you can always add some lithium grease to the planetary gears it will have it run more smoothly and even add a few drops tool oil/ household type to your 1/2 Chuck open & shut the chuck a few times and that should be good enough to make it run smooth as butter and just check on the carbon brushes and clean the commentator that's it's when it comes to tool maintenance and also make sure that you don't overcharge your batteries I don't know how much protection these batteries have treat them as you would treat Ni-cd of course they don't got memory loss like them just trying to help the channel out and the community with my advice
I bought a Milwaukee Gen 3 kit just by watching the videos on the VCG channel, and I do not regret a single minute for the purchase. Excellent tool! And so far, unbeatable!
Was watching this video with my son hes team yellow I'm red he started celebrating when you said dewalt was #1 wish you could have seen his face when you switched it up on him. As always great video keep em coming!
I like both Makita and Milwaukee. I prefer the triggers on Makita plus their 18v line has tons of tools. I like Milwaukee's 12v tool line up with the dremel, soldering iron etc... also the awesome small light drill & impact. So I have both 18v Makita for real work and 12v Milwaukee for lighter stuff.
Black and Decker owns DeWalt, lol. I was a manager at Lowe’s for 2.5 years before the Flexvolt models came out, and I couldn’t believe the amount of returns there were from DeWalt cordless tools. Especially the impact drivers. I went with Makita as I am a contractor carpenter. I LOVE Makita cordless tools
Solid top 3. I got my 887 when they first came out and haven't had any problems with it. Two of my guys have had problems with ones built in 2018. There must have been some change in manufacturing. Guess I lucked out.
So I work at audio shop. Always using my dewalt 887. For radios for amp putting speakers in box's. And I even build custom boxs. When I drive 3 to 400 screws in a box and never had a problem with it and I abuse it. Trying to let the smoke out and won't happen. I even use to remove lug nuts on cars when we do rims and tires. Flawless impact never had a problem with it. But I also had a Milwaukee impact brushed for like 2 weeks worked good too. But I sold it to a co-worker and he lost it in a car But the dewalt was faster at every thing and had more power this is my real would experience. Also have the dcf996. Great drill. But the paint wore of the chuck after a month. Just saying. Other than that my heart belongs to dewalt for the simple fact. My experience has been good with what I have.
I only have corded impact driver, Makita TD-101F. It works flawlessly for many years , in low usage DIY. It drills and drive screws flawlessly when needed. The corded power tools are getting rare. These type of tools are suitable for home and DIY uses, because it always working anytime without worrying the battery life. I wish major manufacturer able to keep manufacturing corded power tools. .. Thank you ..
Ok soooooo I've just switched over to the Milwaukee platform recently.. from dewalt.. I recently sold the 887 very easily but I will say I did like it.. never used it for anything robust.. but i felt like I had better control of it while doing lite duty stuff.. i have the gen 3 milwaukee line now.. both drill and impact are beasts but the control isn't the same.. mode 1 on the dewalt is way easier for installing cabinetry.. milwaukee will strip you out easy unless your easy on the finger.. I'm impact all the way, use it for everything.. the drill/hammer really never gets used.. ive owned Bosch 18v and i will say it's the quietest without being labeled for less noisy.. thanks for the vid, switched to team red because of you guys. Holla
Makita is the best there is no wobble in drilling action and a lot more comfortable for the hand, just takes a little more time drilling in the screws.
I own the One-Key version of the #1 on this list.. I'm really impressed with its performance. I like One-Key mainly for the GPS, around here I've hear of people's tools walking away "on their own" thank y'all for the videos y'all make
Hey great video guys, I was dying laughing at that pos dewalt. I was curious what you guys thought of the Ridgid line up and specifically their impact driver and drill. Thanks for sharing.
I've used a lot of different tools and not at all the tools I like the way the Makita fits in your hand for multiple screen doesn't wear your hand out or rub your hand crazy Raw between your thumb
Most tools are IP 56 equivalent, they're just not advertised as such because they don't want to pay for IP cert. IP 56 isn't anything to write home about.
3 good choices there Nick and yeah, the Milwaukee performed the best out of the three. However, as a DIY'er I don't need all that power and muscle the Milwaukee offers. I only need a good quality impact driver that gets the job done to my specs and I'll leave any brand names out of the mix. Cheers VCG!!!

Can only speak for what I’ve purchased or received. I agree my gen3 is number one. Purchased a ridgid gen5 combo that came w/ the free 1/2” impact for son n law. A bit bigger but great tools. Calan loves his makita. kaiden runs the dreaded dewalt 887. Thus far it has done everything asked of it and a few things more. Maybe we got an exception or it was purchased from an early run before Stanley shifted its attention to craftsman, who knows. I like it as well. I honestly think its intended demographic target was the DIYer first and casual use in a contractors bag. Also might explain that initial contractor price tag. For giggles I have registered the various bit and drill kits, batteries, chargers, sockets, and screw drivers and they get added, but not the 887. Never a response from their support link as to why. If the dewalt ever gives up the ghost then he is covered. I have a spare gen3 combo that I received and decided to hang on to just in case. That’s the way it is, reporting live from down here in the trenches. Further bulletins as events warrant. Out. lol, stay safe.
Very well done Nick. The quality of this video is, well on another level. The video quality is impressive, well edited and the audio is decent bro! Keep up the great work!

#1. Gen 3, #2. Gen2 (which I own) #3. 886, cuz I've beat the crap out of it for 5yrs, don't know how many decks and drywall I've screwed off, been dropped over 12' on concrete 5 times still going strong!
You are so much easier to watch then Vince. He is very loud. These impact drivers these days are nothing short of amazing. I think of how much time I could have saved if I had one 30 years ago.
Nick is da BOMB! However.... Most of us don't think of Vince that way. Dude is awesome. Passionate about what he does and full of energy. Kevin Metzger dewalt is junk now it’s bad and that new atomic line is awful even my Milwaukee m12 gen 2 brushless combo kit is better than that junk and Milwaukee m18 brushless not fuel it is good from Milwaukee
Dewalt is black and decker no difference but same junk ! Had one drill brand new out of box everytime lifted drill would never work overhead even went to trouble of replacing trigger switch NO DIFFERENT ! Turned around and returnef both items to stores ,then went to lumber-yard asked to see 3/8" VSR BOSH DRILL AND HAVE BEEN BUYING AND RUNNING MANY DIFFERENT BOSCH TOOL OVER 20 years and MANY hours of use and guess what not One issue all BOSCH items runs trouble free circuses around D EWALT !!
I've noticed than DeWalt 887 beat everyone when light and medium screws comes, but in all videos I feel a lack of power when it's driving large fasteners. I own a dcd 887 I've never tested with large screws, only with M6 expansions and it's works great. I'd like to test the famous Milwaukee some day...
Nick good good choice 👌 I own the Bosch idh182 freak 6.3 ah core battery what a beast got the ridge r86037 gen 5 brushless impact driver. And two out of commissioned impact drivers ones a DeWalt 14.4v dw054 other is a Makita white label came off so I forgot the model number have to look it up they both need new carbon brushes but not worried just keep as art lol good video last Milwaukee impact driver I used was a v18 battery going way back that way smooth it had the first battery Gage ever on tools along with the v28
I beat my dewalt like an unwanted step child. Dropped it many times 2 story and used it like an air tool. Still going.... it never smoked. That was crazy. My brother love the millwaky....lol...too
Big red all the way nick and the makita is a tough second they are great line of tools you and Vince always have the best and most honest reviews and test thank you
Hay Nick My top three is #1 my German Metabo SSW 18 LTX 400 BL - Because. Its just nasty and over built with 295 ft. Lbs. It rides in my Ridgid box system. #2 is my new German Metabo SSD 18 LTX 200 BL. very quick, well built, small, and it's a money maker. Also in my Ridgid box system. #3 is my old 1\4" Metabo 18V impact that is 9 year old and still making me money. Not sure of the model number. Its out in the truck and the truck is at the shop Lo! !!!! I would like to add that I would like to at some point get some hands on time with the Metabo HPT 36V. To me it looks like the Corvette of impacts. Fast, mean, and gets R Done !!!!!
I’ve put some heavy use onto my 887 and have had no problems drilling into metals for hours and out preforming gen 2 m18s. I think DeWalts real issue is quality control, might as well not make it if you can’t make it good
I’ve got the makita it’s called the dtd152 here in 🇮🇪 it’s an old brushed version it does all it’s asked . I like the Milwaukee but I think it just make sense stick to the same platform .
Haha freaking DeFault. If it wasn't for their saws I wouldn't go near a DeWalt. If they didn't pretend like they were top of the line I wouldn't mind them a bit.
Been using all sorts of impacts for the last 7 years. And I must say the Milwaukee gen 3 is the most powerful hands down. But I must say that the control isn't there, the grip is awkward, and for u just do not get as much control. I use the triple hammer and know it's not as powerful, but when u drive a 6 inch t30 spax screw next to the Milwaukee, it loses by like a half inch. But I would still choose the metabo over it..the battery lasts way longer hence the 36 volt, the light settings are better, and its water and dirt resistant. Not to mention, unless u have big ass hands or are a big ass dude or woman, the metabo hpt triple hammer has the perfect grip and control Simple as that and I'll stand by it all day long. Haven't tried that specific makita so I have nothing to say about it.
Yo Nick I'll give you the top three that I own number three M12 fuel number two Ridgid Gen 5 my number one is Milwaukee gen 3 thanks for asking I own all three of them body use the hell out the damn 12 most of all cuz of convenience there should almost be my number one used you take care of your friends and family quit smoking for the little one okay you keep on fishing
1. Gen 3 Milwaukee impact Unbeatable power, light, compact 2. Xdt12 Feels great in hands, faster charging than milwaukee, great battery platform 3. No one else comes close in my opinion. Dewalt would be #3 but I started as an electrician with a 20v 887 and I had same issues as the videos.
I use my milwaukee surge impact for everything- from scrambling eggs to driving screws to just staring at it.
Terry Tuell I was having a weird, lousy day... and then I happened upon your comment and cracked a spontaneous smile. Love it!
Just gave me an idea.
I have two Milwaukee impact drivers, the M12 and the M18. I love them both. The M12 stays in my 18 wheeler and gets used for all kinds of things on the road. The M18 stays in my tool box at home. DeWalt 887

Jk Guys Great video , Nick was on 🔥👍
Great list man! I wish I had such awesome tools like that!
@@Brandon-yp2wy 🤣 it's all about that Ree- Oh- Bee!
Always the Gen3 comes out on top!
@@atlanta5746 unfortunately im no longer in the union. I am currently working for a non-union shop and have no interest going back union.
Milwaukee my top... 2nd metabo 3rd rigid.
1 Makita 2 milwaukee 3 Bosch
Have you ever tested any of the 24v Kobalt tools?
Yes
@@VCGConstruction Thanks. I'll look for it. Love the channel!
Hell yeah I absolutely agree in every aspect of your choices Nick
The gen3 is a beast!
I’ve put some heavy use onto my 887 and have had no problems drilling into metals for hours and out preforming gen 2 m18s. I think DeWalts real issue is quality control, might as well not make it if you can’t make it good
But was the testing done on 1 of the 887 or a few of the 887's?
Waiting on HILTI 👍 COME ON
Useful!
1. Milwaukee m18 gen 3 impact
2. Milwaukee m12 gen 2 impact
3. Ridgid stealth force impact
I am a mikita fan but that dewalt 887 smokes everything
I want the Milwaukee but I don't think the chuck issues have been resolved.
Nick you are awesome!!! #1 Dewalt was classic !!!!!! Nick Rules !!!!!
Not to mention, unless u have big ass hands or are a big ass dude or woman, the metabo hpt triple hammer has the perfect grip and control
Simple as that and I'll stand by it all day long. Haven't tried that specific makita so I have nothing to say about it.
I found the m18 fuel was difficult to control.
DeWalt 887 😂😂😂 that was pretty funny
🤣🤣
Makita for me.
Dewalt has a new drill and impact set it is called the 998 power detector and it is my favorite
1. Gen 3 Milwaukee impact
Unbeatable power, light, compact
2. Xdt12
Feels great in hands, faster charging than milwaukee, great battery platform
3. No one else comes close in my opinion. Dewalt would be #3 but I started as an electrician with a 20v 887 and I had same issues as the videos.
