Did you thought of a compensated nut? There are done good videos on YT that show the benefits. I made myself one out of brass for a LP type black beauty that needed it much. For the amount of compensation I for each string I cut a thin piece of plastic to shove it right near the nut under the strings, and cut it back for each string till the intonation was spot on on the first 5-6 frets.
There is a trick if you cut the nut too deep (best not to, but it happens) use superglue and baking soda. Refill the nut slot and cut again. It's a pain, but better than redoing the entire nut.
Hey Michael, where did you find the drilling template for the vintage tuning machine heads? I’m going vintage on a custom build and want to make sure I get the spacing right?
Oh sorry - can’t help you there. I bought a half finished neck from Guitaranatomy.com and the holes were already drilled . But respect to you for doing it all yourself 😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Thanks so much for watching 😃🙏🏻

Yes I have seen videos about that but never tried it. That might be a plan B if plan A of not cutting too deep fails 😜 Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment
Exactly right 😉👍 Please check my in depth video on the nut: ruclips.net/video/S7NAQ8a192Q/видео.htmlsi=SoBTnJDeySWwYaSv Thanks so much for watching 🙏🏻😃
I have one and I wish more guitars had zero frets. I also put the gauges right against the nut when I deepen it, that way I can't go any lower than whatever gauge I use.
Zero frets also change the sound of open chords. It just sounds like everything is fretted. That can be good but also a little bit irritating. For my irish bouzuki, which has a zero fret, its great.
The real secret to stable tuning is to buy a guitar that requires no truss rod input to remain playable. If the neck is built right, the truss rod should end up neutral (no load) when the strings are in tune.

Oh… I have no experience with compensated nut. Might be worth looking into 👍😃
Thanks 😊🙏🏻

If you do cut too deep? You can fix it with a little baking powder and super glue! And cut again after it drys! Thanks

@Michael Lagerstedt I myself use Durhams rock hard water putty and super glue! Gets hard as bone and matches well! Thanks
Well explained
Thanks so much Jürgen. Thanks for your always encouraging comments about 😃👍

There's a reason I intonate my guitars at the third fret , with the nut slots at the right depth... 😎
Interesting approach 😃👍 especially if you play a lot of open chords
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏🏻
Do you have any guitar with a zero fret? I believe this design avoids any nut issue, and I wonder why we don't see it more often 🤔
Hi Glaude. I don’t know about that 😮
But Thanks for mentioning it 😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
