  • Sandra and Daniel hired a roofing contractor to fix their flat roof but immediately after they were finished, the roof leaked. Water pools on the roof creating a marshy swamp-land for mosquitos. The contractor admits he did a poor job but refuses to correct the roof. Mike Holmes enters the job site and demolishes the existing flat roof and refinishes it with a brand new water-tight membrane.

    I was worried more about the rot in the attic space.

    The one drawback to having a row home like that is when the your roor or neighbors leaks it affects all units. This video is pretty old now so they are probably due for a new roof again unless they moved since then.

    I am in England, the way you build over there baffles me My roof was put on in 1901 and my home is, relatively speaking, a new build for this area; there are 300 year old properties with their original roofs. We build to last.

      Your roof is probably also made of slate. It’s pretty cost prohibitive here to use it.

    The only criticism I could make is that the bad contractor is not named!! He deserves it.

      They never do, possibly legal reasons. Or some times they might exaggerate stories for TV. Even the ones that literally just take the money and run are not named, kind of a bad part of the show imo. Holmes is always going on about "hire a professional, do it right" but the entire series is about people who hire what they thought were professionals and get wronged by them.

    I know these are often exaggerated a bit to make it more "exciting" for TV. But the lady going on about the roof leaking the most in the babies room... pretty obvious solution move the baby. Seriously people in apartments do more with less space I am pretty sure a crib in the master bedroom till it's fixed wouldn't kill you.

    Anyone notice that none of the workers are wearing safety harnesses?

      Yep, I would have refused working on that project until they had that set up first!

      Well it was filmed in the early 2000's, so maybe safety restrictions weren't that strict then? Or maybe there are different rules for flat roofs. I know a later episode has them wearing the harnesses when working on a roof.

      No, because they have a disclaimer that they remove the safety garbage for filming.

    it is against plumbing code to down size the vent in a cold/freeze zone. the height was correct though

      @anthonyurban2589 11 месяцев назад

      maybe. but the hoarfrost code that i am familier with states that the pipe going through the roof must be two times the size of vent run into attic...which very well may be. i dont know what it is under the roof. but the fact that the other company down sized it to 3 inch from 4 inch is a big no no.@@GoatzombieBubba
