  • Rasema and her mother have had four contractors in over the past several years to fix three very leaky windows, all to no avail. Mike Holmes arrives, restructures the roof and properly installs new windows and an eaves trough, putting an end to their water problems. #HolmesonHomes #mikeholmes

    My Mom's apartment leaked, every time we got a good rain she'd get a big puddle on her dining room floor. The apartments' maintenance people caucked, replaced flashing around the window, all kinds of things, nothing helped. The the corporate maintenance supervisor came out.. one of the downspouts was clogged. No one looked up!

    Well, thank goodness we have Mike to re-do other people's garbage, even if it would be nicer if the garbage wasn't done in the first place!

    You and your team have done great work for these two ladies. They felt relieved to see that the windows are sealed and protected. The previous contractors and architect should been shamed for failing and not doing the right things.

    Looks like the wrong type of glass was used originally. Should have been safety glass. Mike and his crew did a fantastic job.

      ? Why, only safety glass is used on doors I thought or shower doors. Thermal yes.

    • @paulhill1665
      @paulhill1665 Год назад

      A vacuum, on that size of window? I think that is wrong, the void may be filled with argon, or a similar gas. I would have thought the actual glass would have to have been at least 6mm and laminated, no way that it could have been lifted by hand if it was.

      @@None-685 -- any glass that goes down to 18 inches above the floor must be safety glass.

    Skylights ALWAYS leak eventually. Be very discerning when deciding to have holes cut hole in your roof.

      You're talkin about 20 years ago different codes and different products. And removing a window like that you're supposed to tape it all up. After 20 years it's time to rebuild

    • @zachsmith1676
      @zachsmith1676 Год назад

      this is from the early 2000s so the windows you're talking about either weren't around or not widely used at the time

      $$$.... Folks forget the world has changed A LOT over 20 years from codes to building products. Personally I would have gone with a clear thick plastic kind of product rather then glass or better yet widen the add on to just put in a sliding door. Expanding to fit the sliding door would keep the big window look with also giving security of a exit if there was a fire. Also would be safer for any fire/work crew who needed to remove that giant sheet of glass.

    The original design by the architect was either too unrealistic or the builder wasn't skilled enough to execute the plan.

    • @jonathanbair523
      @jonathanbair523 7 месяцев назад

      I think a bit of both. If the builder was skilled enough and cared, they would have caught the goof of the plan. They also wouldn't have framed it wrong... That add on was doomed from the second pen met paper tho it looks REALLY NICE... Mike's crew could see the idea, had the skills to fix/adjust the build and got the job done.

    Remodels. Always more work than expected. Makes it hard to quote a job like this. Time and material but one better be honest about the work. 🤨 10:09 12/06/2023.

    It looks like it literally took as much work to do it wrong as it would have to do it right. I'm not sure it's even 'don't care' so much as has no clue and got zero training. Why higher skilled labor when all you really need are people who can pound in nails and slop on enough paint to hide the bad work and can pay them minimum wage or less.

    After watching Mike & his crew for years & dealing with various trades myself, I’m convinced that at least HALF of the people working in the trades should NOT be working in the industry. They just don’t give a 💩!! My grandfather was a carpenter back in the first half of the 20th century. He was a lot like Mike. He took PRIDE in his work & made sure it was done right the FIRST time. That’s the problem these days. NO pride in their work. NO respect for the customer. It’s ALL about the money. Get in get out & get paid !! The laws NEED to be changed, upgraded & given more teeth !!

      After working in construction for 20 years, I can guarantee you that you are right. At least half of the people working in the trades don't give a sh*t. Then another one quarter of them are drunk or drugged. The alcohol and drug addiction problem in the construction world is massive. Most of those workers could NEVER hold down an 8-5 job because they are so impaired.
