"She was a 365-days-a-year rail-fan excursion...she was the train that behaved like a Caribbean cruise ship, inviting you to loaf and look, dine and drink, with ultimate destination beside the point," *
So wrote David P. Morgan, past editor of Trains Magazine in the July 1976 issue of that magazine.
From the camera of noted photographer Emery Gulash comes the most awesome experience: a complete trip on the California Zephyr! Filmed in 1965, when the CZ was at it's ultimate, Emery's
camera takes you from dome to track-side, from the cab through the 'Big-10' curves and tunnels West of Denver, From Chicago to San Francisco.
On and Off train coverage of probably America's most well known and favored train... The California Zephyr. Thrill to the incredible diversity of scenery, the first class service, F-7's all the way to the West coast, incredible cab scenes from Denver-West through tunnels and the Big 10 curves, and thrilling run-bys as only Emery Gulash can provide.
Filmed in gorgeous 16 mm color, this is a program you will watch over and over again. Live the luxury of the past, through mountains, across the plains, meets with the other CZ's as well as freight and passenger trains...and a surprise meet with Burlington steam loco 5632 as she passes the CZ on a for rail-fans only run-by!
A giant leap in quality, you will see much more of the original Film quality, sharpness, brightness, and color on this HD Up-Convert!

The EMD E and F locos were the PRETTIEST ones ever made! I have many fond memories of watching LOTS of them go by on the tracks near my house as a kid back in the 1960s in Wichita KS!

Rode the CZ and the DZ in the early 1960s. Both memorable trips. Trains were wonderful. Vista Domes were so much fun; you could take in the scenery and/or you could play engineer.

I wonder if this is the same route as it is now?

The route from Chicago to Utah is the same IIRC, but instead of the WP route, the Amtrak CZ goes via the old SP over Donner Pass, which is also nice.
