Even the shiny DC-8 engines had a magic touch! Flying was an adventure...
I was as a german exchange student 1991 at the age of 16 in this area, near Stockton, best time of my life. Visited San Francisco, Sacramento, Yosemito, Bear valley, Modesto, Pebble beach, 17mile drive, Carmel, Monterey. We drove around in a fat Chevrolet Suburban. What a time!
Modesto resident here haha
Did ya see the meal service on the airline? Jeez now ya can't get a water.
That cigarette mid flight looked so relaxing😊
"50 miles"
If you have a little extra money, a little extra time, California is just as beautiful as it always was. Love these old United Airlines Travelogues.
I swear to God I will visit that place before I die!
I'm only 43 and in Canada

You missed it by about 40 years. Sorry mate it was grand.
@@jimmyc6686 Really go to your Canadian Rockies instead. Stunning there!
Originally released in 1960. The footage at 21:21 is the November 24, 1959 premiere of "Ben-Hur" in Los Angeles.
I am so happy to live in California and know all those places and weekly visits some of them .
Slava Ukraine.
"Welcome to Solvang. .a little bit of Denmark on the California coast"
I missed the Central Coast. Twenty years ago. The movie Sideways showed Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez Valley made me homesick. I have visited California on numerous occasions in the past when I lived in Las Vegas
Several minutes spent showing Marineland, which is now long gone, with not even a mention of Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm, which are still around and even back then were more well known and popular than Marineland.

Whose last resident is only a forgotten memory. LOL. I think the writer meant to say distant memory.

love these! As lifetime west coaster with significant history in the state. born there around sputnik time. How this world has changed... Today the left-wing politics has destroyed all you see here.
At 25:54 " ..no machine guns at the border."
Not a "flimsy fence" anymore either.
20世紀,你最想。去
It’s tragic, that a once vibrant, beautiful state like California has now turned to s.hit.
Hey. Libs will do that for ya.
Yeah, sad...
Once upon a time!
If these ppl saw Cali now they'd be clawing over each other trying to escape!
As of today (Aug 22, 2023) Downtown San Francisco is full of homeless people, druggie zombies and a plethora of closed retail outlets. Different from what it was only 20 years ago. Same goes for Los Angeles and San Diego.
1:20 - "that hadn't even been discovered"
Oof, I guess someone had better go tell the people who have been living there for the past 20,000 years they don't exist
This is the California I grew up in…..it is now 180 degrees from this….we need our left wing democrats to watch these old videos to get a clue of California should be…not what it currently is
Good luck. They hate that time. It was so "oppressive." You couldn't crap on the sidewalk while nodding off on fentanyl brought across the open border. Those days are gone for good
They nerfed the state anthem. They fluffed it up! I hate that.
向西朝拜。
The leftists have really fouled this once golden state up badly! It breaks my heart!
Watching this film, I conclude that black people came to America later.
This is an airline travelogue. Blacks didn't fly back then.
The Nga's ruined California.
Nope. It was and still is, the Democrats.
@@lowes891646 - Nga's and Democrats
Nope, illiterate Trumpers.
@16:16 is could swear I saw James dean's face in the grass.
