At least this guy is fit enough to do the demonstration. My PE teacher last year did all the mistakes and said avoid them. To show us the way to do a proper push up, we needed to get another guy in the gym. XD
I played soccer for 5 years, I’m a fast runner and have good lower body strength, but cannot do a push-up for the life of me and that is not good😭 I also love food but that’s not important.
noelle. why do i need a last name I’ve played soccer for 8 years and when we had to do push ups I could not do one and my coach said try to do 1 every day or else I get kicked down to the reserve squad and now after a lot of hard work I can do 50 with ease
@@danamier Hate to be that guy...but just because you are the fastest in your school doesn't mean you are even close to getting into the NFL one day...It's good to set high goals, but make them realistic. Also, what's your 40 yd?

Thank you for this video, I never realized how bad my physical health was until this test. It motivated me to improve and I did much better in the tests next year.
I don't understand why a person would thumbs down any of your videos. Sad people....simply sad people. I will be using this before my 3rd-5th graders start their FitnessGram Push-up test. Thanks!
I used it today and a few of my 5th graders said you cheated by touching your feet to "the wall". HAHA! Funny thing, I made sure they are NOT near a wall. HAHA!
The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.
So, at school, they told us to put our hands together, and feet together. I couldnt because I have week ankles, and wrists, so it hurt. What I do is I put my feet together just barely any space between them, and put my arms little more than shoulder length, however closer to my chest. It dosent hurt as much, and Im still able to do about 7 push ups before getting some restrain on my ligaments. Which is pretty good for me. My goal is to do 20. These tips are really helpful. Thank you,
My mistake that i always do is the Air touch,i just can't get myself to go way down and i just pushed my self at home by doing the fitness gram push up test and i knew i was doing it wrong and did the air touch everysingle push up,i even cried while pushing myself i feal like a total mistake right now but anyways thx for the teaching I'll try better next time.
Thank you soooooo much for this and the curl-ups test!! I will use these examples with my students!! By the way, I really appreciate and love all your videos!!! THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING!!!!!
Great video coach! Very helpful. Im doing fitness testing right now. I was wondering if you had a group of students performing the test while another group is doing a fun activity in the gym?
I have done that, but now we just partner up and the whole class does the test - found it a little to distracting. We still use that format (testing and station activities) for Sit and Reach / Height and Weight since I can only get one kid at a time though.
I love this idea as a PE teacher. But I feel like it isn't far to require that depth bc of kids are different heights. I teach middle school, where kids are drastically different sizes. Any suggestions on how to make it fair?
The cone is the best solution I've come up with, you could change the size of the cone if you wanted to modify it for different kids, but that would probably seem unfair to the students who had a smaller cone
You can use whatever you want, cone isn't necessary or even required for the official test - I've just found it makes it much easier for students to tell when they are at 90 degrees in the elbow (especially at the elem level).
so you have students put feet against the wall? I like that idea, but i don't think you say it in the video so I want to make sure that is what you did and that it would be acceptable before introducing to my learners... I also had the thought that if everyone is on the line and your students being young they might not actually touch the wall, can you weigh in on if that would be ok to have feet at mat/wall?
No, we do it in the middle of the gym. I was just trying to film against the wall to be less distracting. I wouldn't have kids put their feet on a wall - we just use the line to put our hands and the cone on
You can't "Fail" a pushup test. It's a measure of strength. Take the test, see where you are - set a goal and try to improve by getting some regular practice in. (for example by doing Modified Pushups on your knees). I apologize on behalf of your PE Teacher if they are grading you on your pushup score :-(
Question: what type of pushup is measured? I believe at my school they specifically state tat boys are not allowed to do military push-ups, yet every video I see on RUclips for push-ups say a proper pushup is keeping the elbows tucked in to your sides, yet my school says that those are not right and we are supposed to keep our elbows far apart in a T shape...
For Fitnessgram the type of pushup being measured is the one shown in this video, I'm sure there are different names for it depending on who you ask, there are a ton of different pushup variations out there
T shape push up has high risk of shoulder injury for anyone on the beginning phase of exercise since since they can not know the correct way of controlling the muscles. Tucked push up is safe.
I am so happy about corona because my school wont be doing the pacer test :D But now fitgram things are prob gonna show up in my recommendations Btw I hate this video

First progress with inclined pushups. Do like 10 good inclined push-ups every day or two days for a week
Then to the exact same for a week with knee push-ups. And then regular push-ups.
But make sure your form is absolutely perfect with each push up. That’s why you have to start with inclined push-ups first.
This is awesome. I'm using this and your Curl-up test video!
Glad to hear that!

Bro a walking W
The video help me with it so thank you because I used to do air touch lol-
My teacher uploaded this on Schoology... I have to do this at home what if I don’t have that cone when I’m doing my push ups??
You can use anything, a book, a plastic cup or just do it without the cone and try to get your elbows to be a 90 degree angle
I don't have that type of cone. Can I use a regular disc cone?
You can use whatever you want, cone isn't necessary or even required for the official test - I've just found it makes it much easier for students to tell when they are at 90 degrees in the elbow (especially at the elem level).

2 mistakes and stay with the cadence
Huh my school just had it where you do as many as you can. 1 bad mistake means your out. Same with the pacer, they didn’t use the 2 mistake rules
Ok thanks💪💪
