    My water cooled Titan XP achieves a sold 1867Mhz stock boost vs. 1534Mhz when using the stock aircooler. It's apparent that either I have a slightly better GPU than their unit or the waterblock is superior to the Hybrid solution, or a bit of both is involved. Manual overclock I was able to attain are 2088Mhz GPU and 11880Mhz Memory. I've only had the Titan XP water cooled for a few days and will continue to play with the clocks to see if I can get a higher GPU overclock at the expense of a lower memory overclock. I am using an EKWB Titan XP water block and backplate ;-)

    • @Great_America
      @Great_America 7 лет назад

      I haven't tried to clock higher. But now that the voltage is unlocked, I'll try to see if I can push the clocks more. My guess is that the card BIOS will not allow for much higher clocks.

  • @Theroguelawl
    @Theroguelawl 8 лет назад +1

    EVGA are working on a TX-P hybrid cooler, but it's a ways off. Their 1080FE hybrid fits if you're willing to chop a chunk out of the shroud for the 6 pin pci-e connector and a little bit of the heat spreader to fit over the extra chokes on the TX-P.
    Beyond that, Arctic's hybrid fits (ugly as sin though), and so does NZXT's Kraken G10, if you can handle their crappy vrm cooling for alternate hybrid options. If you own an EKWB Predator AIO (the one with the QDC), EK will also sell a pre-filled TX-P block that'll connect to it.

    • @nwkrep82
      @nwkrep82 8 лет назад +1

      Theroguelawl Hakeem Hakim It was actually not difficult at all.
      I put painters tape on the areas the needed to be cut on the hybrid base plate. I also covered the fan with tape as well to keep out as much metal shavings as possible.
      I then took measurements from the stock base plate and then marked those areas on the tape.
      I used my dremel with a metal cutting disc to make the cuts. Making the space for the extra power connector was pretty easy due to the more open area to work with.
      The area for the extra mosfet was a little bit trickier due to the more confined area to cut relative to the small amount of material needed to be removed and the size of the cutting disc.
      You can see that area here:
      hardforum.com/threads/nvidia-announces-the-new-titan-x.1905829/page-20#post-1042462625
      I used a aluminum grinding stone (also in my dremel accessory kit) to fine tune the shape and smooth out the cut area for both cuts.
      I then used my handheld electric blower and rubbing alcohol .to clean away all the metal shavings.
      I then sprayed the exposed cut/shaved aluminum with black plastidip.
      I reused all the thermal pads from the oem cooler.
      I then reassembled according to instructions in the hybrid kit (which basically screws back together like oem). You can reuse all the original screws, but the kit also includes ALL the same screws for reassembly.
      Unfortunately, I didn't take many pics (other than what I have posted) during the process...I should've done a video...LOL

    • @Hakeem597
      @Hakeem597 8 лет назад

      Man, you are better than I am...I bet this is all EVGA will do when they come out with a kit specifically for the Titan. I just bought the 1080 kit, but I am a novice when it comes to modifications such as what you did.

    That's the problem with reference designs these days, the routine of making it a blower design is something that needs to be left in the past. Nvidia have been banging on about this (as they say) "premium thermal" that's on the 1080 and the titan, but realistically it looks good but it can't cope with cooling the gpu properly. Its getting to be an Apple mentality where looks overrides usage, or to put it bluntly "all show no go".
    They would be far better off designing a cooler with multiple fans instead of religiously using this blower cooler that at this point does nothing but hold back performance. There's really nowhere else to go on this design, they could possibly increase the density of the fins on the vapour chamber as to me they look pretty sparse compared to the surface area they have to work with, they could probably double the amount they have by making them a bit thinner. But even then its not likely to make all that much difference.
    They need to look at different designs instead of recycling essentially the same thing time and time again. Amd have no fear of putting liquid coolers on the gpu's, 295x2, fury x (assuming you got one with no whine) and fury duo all seem to do fine with it. It's about time nvidia put function ahead of form and done something different.

  • @DiamondPugs
    @DiamondPugs 8 лет назад +20

    12 hundred macaronis for a shitty blower? Well done Nvidia. Your greed is starting to get really questionable.

    • @TijmenJanssen
      @TijmenJanssen 8 лет назад +3

      why is it a shitty blower? the card just has a high tdp. there's only so much you can put inside a closed two slot cooler.

    • @4gbmeans4gb61
      @4gbmeans4gb61 8 лет назад +6

      Because you can only get titans from NV themselves, if they would let other companies put their after market coolers you would see better temps.

    • @Disobeyedtoast
      @Disobeyedtoast 8 лет назад

      +Tijmen J Literally any other design on cooler would have been better than a blower. Old AMD GPUs have a higher TDP and most don't get up to 85 degrees celcius

    • @TijmenJanssen
      @TijmenJanssen 8 лет назад +1

      Disobeyedtoast They have the fans running higher to compensate, they are noisy..
      The whole reason why nvidia lets the temps go to 84 is because they want to keep noise to a minimum. If you would ramp up the fan speed the temps will go down and the clocks will be more stable. But that means more noise.
      Also a blower style cooler is best for many cases, because they don't accumulate hot air inside the case. And before you might say, well, then get better air flow. Most people don't have good airflow. This is the best ensured consistent quality for a normal use GPU, with a certain kind of consistency and compactness for most. Especially for Titans, where the market is not necessarily just for gaming.
      But, I agree to some level, maybe they could let 3rd parties design custom coolers for them, but then again, the only ones complaining about this are the ones that don't spend the money on them. And you can easily buy your own EVGA hybrid cooler so you can mod it yourself if you have the card. Or use a waterblock.
      Also, you can probably use an arctic cooling cooler or a different aio cooler on the card. There are still options.

    • @4gbmeans4gb61
      @4gbmeans4gb61 8 лет назад +1

      ***** Most gamers who buy titans get waterblocks. But if you can afford a 1200 dollar gpu then why can't you afford a case with good air flow?
      I prefer open cases with cpu and gpu water blocks, and using push pull on a 480 rad so the fans can have super low rpm. You literally cant hear nothing. Pretty dead silent.

    why do the reference designs still have blower style coolers? they're almost the only ones to use them and apparently you can't make a powerfull and quiet blower style cooler. Of course, they want to cut costs and for the RX 480, for example, it was obviously necessary, but for a high-end graphics card you should expect a hig-end cooler, not a low-budget one, right?
    Instead you get an outdated cooler design with a plastic backplate...

    With the memory on mine I get graphical errors over 450 mhz overclock. I leave it at 400+mhz

    Looks kinda clunky, but what more can you expect from a DIY hybrid. Great results, though. Good to know my Titan could hold over 2GHz under water with an EK waterblock. This looks a great deal cheaper, though. Like $300 cheaper. Hmmm...

  • @foreignsgamingtech
    @foreignsgamingtech 8 лет назад +5

    So is Nvidia pricing this card at $1200 because of the lower yields/higher costs of the GP102 and GDDR5X and skimping on proper cooling because of that or simply wanting to milk more money from selling the card by saving on the cooler? It's kind of sad that a card as good as this is crippled out of the box.

    • @6utS
      @6utS 8 лет назад +2

      It has no competition, so they increased the price, think of it for a sec, if they know they sell everything they make with limited supply why not go for 1200$ instead of 999$, its additional 200$ of profit on each gpu.
      The most interesting info about pascal titan x is it launched so quickly after gtx 1080, which means nvidia fellt that in few more months this card wont be such a good deal for consumers, maybe coz of amd's vega, maybe nvidia plans to launch 1080ti or drop bombs with their volta gpus in early 2017, the thing is, with such an early launch of pascal titan, we can assume stronger or similary strong but cheaper cards are on the horizon in next 6 months.

    • @ibogdan28

      You think that's bad, NVidia have set the price in the UK at £1,200. That equates to USD$1,564. At that price, I think they just lost my interest in a Titan X. I'll go down the 1080 SLi route instead.

    • @foreignsgamingtech

      I'm not sure that Nvidia sets the prices. It's usually the locals gouging it up+VAT and other stuff.

  • @jouldalk

    Would it help to remove the transparent plastic piece on top of the heatsink on the TitanX? This way the heat would no be directed outside but rather a little bit everywhere and maybe the heatsink could be cooled with additional fans? Bad idea?

  • @DongleKumquat
    @DongleKumquat 7 лет назад

    Hey there, followed this video for my Titan, works well and glad I was able to keep the stock shroud 'cause i much prefer the look of it to the hybrid.
    Just a quick question, I know you mentioned in one of the previous logs that the GDDR5X chips run on lower voltage than regular GDDR5 and won't get so hot, but since the stock heatsink is now out, the only thing sinking heat from the VRAM is the baseplate. Is it ok to leave it like that for an extended period of time?
    I did buy some copper heatsinks for memory chips and attached them to the baseplate with thermal tape around the cooler, just to be sure. I mainly use the card for number crunching/protein folding calculations and some gaming on the side, so it's running full speed quite a lot.
    Thanks in advance!

  • @TheONEHD1762
    @TheONEHD1762 8 лет назад

    So, how I understood, its hybrid solution doesn't really make sence, if you want to overclock, because the fps stays pretty the same, and the reason is the max voltage of the card is not high enough? of caurse the common temperature goes down and by overclocking as well, what is good for a lifetime of the card after overclocking?
    please correct me, if i am wrong. it's because english is not my main language, but i am trying to learn it, and i love hardware :)

    Is the memory overclocking limited by power, or could it have something to do with some kind of built-in error correction?
    What do you get if you keep the core clock way down (limiting core power demand), but overclock the memory? Does the max memory overclock increase significantly if you artificially limit the core power demand?

    • @mitcHELLOworld
      @mitcHELLOworld 8 лет назад

      Honestly, GDDR5X is so fast at stock, that you really dont see a hell of a whole lot if any benefit by overclocking it anyway so I wouldnt really worry about it.. if you can get 400Mhz on your memory thats great. translates to almost 1Ghz overclock effective. Nothing to sneeze at.

    • @C0manso
      @C0manso 8 лет назад

      Yeah, I was thinking of not overclocking the GDDR5X what so ever because of power draw, I would only overclock the core if I'm not hitting 60fps in a certain game at 4K because as you saw. The TITAN could go higher, but it just choked on power so I'm gonna stay away from the memory.

      Maybe Vega?

      When they get some money for r&d :p. Up until polaris last quarter, they hadnt make a single profit in 5 years and accumulated huge debts ($2+ billion). Polaris and vega wont touch the titan xp, but will probably do what the fury did last year, near matching the 1080. This gen is more of a money making gen for amd, hence the priority on the lower end market since thats where they can beat nvidia

      +Ariel Espinosa
      rx 480 250 $
      Titan Xp 1200$
      That comparison is yust ridiculus 🙈

      @jackwiedemann 8 лет назад +1

      +Ariel Espinosa yeah and nvidea uses a cheap cooler on a 1200 $ video card ^^ But i understand your point - let's yust wait till vega and see :)

    Put this puppy in a custom liquid cooled loop and I'm sure it'll blow away most everything if you're willing to push more power int it.

    Is it just me or does it seem like there is little performance gain when overclocking any pascal gpu? With maxwell 200 MHz was a big deal, but here you gain very little with 400

    • @joel__7053
      @joel__7053 8 лет назад +4

      Thats because pascal automatically overclocks itself up to 2ghz if temps are ok

    • @ericimi
      @ericimi 8 лет назад

      +TheBlackAndFurious 5 yeah , my 1070 superclocked from evga was running at about 1950 last night playing GTA 5 at 1440p temps were from 72-75 degrees (room was 80 degrees)

    • @cheescake98
      @cheescake98 8 лет назад

      yes I know. but pascal at 1500 vs 200 isn that much of a difference. maxell 1200 vs 1400 was a big difference. maxwell overcklocks itself aswell

    • @LuKaS2oo9
      @LuKaS2oo9 8 лет назад +1

      +sur puppa Maxwell was a much better overclocker than Pascal is. My 980Ti at @1500mhz beats any 1070 and is just 10% slower than a custom 1080

    • @ibogdan28
      @ibogdan28 8 лет назад

      That is because the card overclocks itself as much as as possible.

      Benito Wymeersch would be unstable. water cooler keeps it cooler under load. he also gets a better over clocking performance using an aio

    The blower style coolers are crap and hold back the potential of the GPU. Nvidia maybe figures the people buying these cards would put water blocks on them eventually. LOL
