They portrayed PTSD of Korra so well. It makes this episode so real😢.

Was in a car crash, 7 years ago. Used panic a little when getting in a car after that (not anymore). Wasn’t as bad as Korras but wasn’t nice, can confrim this feels very real.
I had PTSD from a health issue and I can say it wasn’t the same as an avatar but I also would doubt myself and miss my past self. It sucks a lot and it was portrayed very well.

@@numbshyper1034how’d you get over yours? I’m 14 years into mine and if we slightly go off the road like I did in my accident all the memories come back flooding in like a tsunami and my body reacts the same way it did when I got into the car accident 😅

I'll be honest, I never liked the ponytails. I get that it's inspired by native American hairstyles, but I just never warmed up to it. The bob cut fits her better. It's easier to clean, it's more athletic and it's more 1920's.
I hate the short hair Korra. Off the market for men Korra is boring.
Season 3 of LOK was phenomenal, but this season really made me fall in love with Korra's character. The fact that she has hit rock bottom at this point makes so much sense because the confidence that she's had in being the Avatar has broken down completely.
The portrayal of Korra's poor mental Health is also one of the best I've ever seen. Her desperation, hopelessness and frustation at being left behind while everybody is moving on is so relatable. Not only does it fit Korra's individual situation in the progression of her story, but it perfectly depicts the anxieties and fears of young adults triyng to find their place in the world in today's society as well.
I probably don't need to mention that PTSD is even a thing in this show and how well it is portrayed. In kids shows we don't usually see our character suffering from psychological distress. They defeat the bad guy and everything is okay, but I love that Korra is suffering from flashbacks, nightmares, isolation and eveything that comes with going through trauma. It's all these dark and serious themes that made me relate to LOK more than ATLA.
RIP Grandma Toph's VA (Philece Sampler), she did such a great job aging up Toph's voice to exactly what you'd expect her to be like at that age.
And the writing does her such great justice. She gives Sophia Petrillo from the Golden Girls energy, absolutely perfect 🤌

If I remember correctly, the creator said they discussed about Vaatu being part of Korra's PTSD but since he's dormant, for now, they decided to introduce Dark Korra
(might be wrong about the PTSD part and they just talked about his presence in her and how he won't affect the Avatars until the next Harmonic Convergence)
One of the best episodes of Korra. The whole process of her past 3 years was done so well. The problems she still faces and the constant flashbacks were great
I think a lot of people don’t understand that Korra truly is one of the strongest Avatar’s in history even more so than Aang. She dealt with villains that far exceed what Aang had to go through and not many people even believed in her as the Avatar since the beginning. Everyone believed in Aang. As soon as they heard the name Avatar they thought “we have hope again” sure they are mad he wasn’t around to stop the war but the quickly realized just how much good he could do. With Korra she was playing catch up. She was strong but lacked the modern techniques that were expanded beyond just normal bending use. She wasn’t spiritual cause she didn’t have the spiritual guidance Aang had as a monk. She was quick tempered cause she was spoiled for being the Avatar in an era of Peace. But she was also isolated where other avatars were nomads. She had many odds stacked against her and she combated the strongest benders in history, and although she received help, she still put her all into it. She was just a phenomenal bender above all else and just needed more direction early on, and more freedom.
The first time we saw her heal was when she used her healing to healed bolins shoulder right after she broke his heart😅
3:19 I’m going through somethings and what Katara said really hits me. I’m on the road of recovery and it’s been hard. For those that are dealing with anything take care of yourself and be safe.

The broken mirror and Dark Korra chaining herself to Korra symbolism at the beginning was fantastic. It helped further show what kind of place Korra's in without needing to really say anything. She's hit rock bottom, broken, and not able to escape what happened to her. A once physically strong and independent person being reduced to this kind of state was obviously going to be really hard on her. That and she was naturally going to be upset and frustrated a lot, which is realistic for a lot of people who desperately wants to recover as soon as possible. Being the Avatar is important to Korra and she can't even dress herself, let alone do her job at the moment. And to make it worse, Kuvira is out there doing her job so it's like insult to injury.
Overall, loved the fact that Bryke actually showed the struggle of dealing with trauma as opposed to glossing over it as most kid shows would when it comes to issues of depression and trauma. They even stated that they could've fast-forwarded to a point where Korra was 100% better both physically and mentally, but felt it would've been a great disservice to those who were actually dealing with these issues in real life. Even more impressive imo is that they're doing a great job showing the ugliness and hardships that come with recovering from trauma without losing sight of the overall story, or making Korra's story too hard to follow. It's not always an easy thing to do or balance.
I totally sobbed out loud at the end of this episode, the first time I watched it (and I tear up every time).
Plus the PTSD stuff ... woof.
It's scary how well portrayed Korra's PTSD is in this episode... The amount of times I wanted to cry LOL. "The mind can be a powerful ally, or your greatest enemy" No joke... that's hits home on so many levels.

That was a good catch. Korra, in her absence, had lost some muscle tone. They did such an amazing job of depicting her trauma and for this show aimed at a younger audience, how many youths can feel they can articulate their own trauma.

The Appa episode was actually called Appa’s Lost Days but it’s basically the same thing just titled differently.
It really pays off how Korra has been so naturally talented at a young age then to be crippled. The pain and frustration. I really sympathize with Korra this episode. I went from doing advanced level interval training then hit with an autoimmune disease, weakening much of my body to the level of a toddler. Took two years to get back my strength. I envy Korra having friends who wrote her. I barely heard from anyone. That sucked.

this season is a perfect portrayal of why Ikki and Mako are my favorite characters in this series(not including ATLA)! They have such subtle talents and are huge proponents to moving things along in their missions!

Something I don't see mentioned as much is Alien Hand Syndrome. Korra shows the effects of PTSD real well, but it's also crazy to think what it'd be like having to deal with Alien Bending Syndrome.
Everyone was over protective of Korra and she still almost got killed. Fate is always inevitable.

I have a theory that the reason it took us so long to see Toph and Zuko is because I imagine they were originally supposed to be dead before the series got renewed for more seasons. I always think back to what Katara told Korra in the 1st episode, “Aang’s time has passed. My brother and many of my friends are gone.” 😞
But katara said many not all.
Avatar or not, I can't imagine being 16-17 and having to face on prodigy bending villains and ancient spiritual entities all in a few years time. I'd be broken day one. Korra is an absolute champ.

I feel like she should’ve just been banished from that place or sent back to the water tribe. Hama really deserved better. I felt sorry for her, the way they had her in that cell without being able to move a muscle is crazy. Literally I can’t imagine being stuck in one spot all day long for that many years.
