Absolutely majestic lens for it's price! It's fully met my expectations even after 25mm 0,95 Voigtlander and I just got it and can't wait to try it outdoor! Unfortunately all reviews just list the technical characteristics without showing the magnificent scene possibilities. Of course it's important, but it does not give a real idea about this lens at all.
I have this lens and enjoy using it for the quality and feel. I purchased this lens instead of other more expensive AF alternatives and I am glad I did. I have only used it for photography. Every time I take the lens out for a shoot, I know I am in for a treat when I'm back home viewing the photos. Peter thanks for the review
I like most of the Chinese lenses. They remind me of an era when build quality mattered! As you said, if someone's after a character, these lenses ooze character. If it's maximum optical quality you're after, then you either have to look elsewhere or use these stopped down.
Hey Peter, thanks for your review. Does focus peaking work with this lens or are the electronic contacts necessary for that? Not quiet sure how it works.
@@ForsgardPeter I try that. actually per your advice on your channel, but I miss focus a lot. Or I just get it just wrong. I occasionally have a laugh when I'm bored and taking photos in my backyard with the 1.2 pro lenses, on the idea that if I can focus those with a moderate speed, I wouldn't be dissatisfied with the Laowa lenses of the world, and could use their fast aperture (I do a lot of social night photography, where, yes, I have to manual focus sometimes as well). I just don't want to make my friends wait while I try to nail focus. This is my preferred focal length, so I'm going to keep an eye out for some used ones or a massive sale, but I'm concerned it will just be a curiosity for me.
@@ForsgardPeter okay it came! Actually it's been pretty all right. Focus peaking has been an issue for me, as I stated. However, with the extreme speed of the lens the extra light it allows into the sensor has enabled me to use focus peaking a little bit better. I also have developed a bit more skill in that, so combined with the very very long focus throw, I can get close in focus. Not dead on, but Instagram level at least. I may not sell it!
I tried this lens for nature instead of my 90mm macro pro today just to see if it can be pulled off. It's been sitting on my shelf for months, and I wanted to give it. It's due diligence. Well... for nature, it's horrible. Not the lens, but 36mm. I know it's more for landscape, street, and portrait but I wanted to challenge myself. Pretty boring photo walk in the woods lol
@@ForsgardPeter ok, thank you a lot for your expert answer! I assumed the Olympus has more since Laowa’s brother, the 25mm 0,95 also comes with an aps-c mount. So thank you even more ;) I film on the GH5S and with its slightly larger sensor I have to pay a little bit more attention to vignetting 😵💫

Glad to hear you like the lens. I also found it to be quite nice.
Peter A very helpful review and seems to be great value / quality lens
This is a very interesting Lens! Hey Peter, great Pictures you took!!
I‘ve been waiting for your review of this lens as I find it’s a pretty interesting option.
It really is a good option. The price is quite nice.

Probably going to go with this
Thank you Peter for this new video. In terms of sharpness, which of the 18mm, 25mm, and the 25mm SLR Magic is the sharpest at 0.95 in your opinion?
Laowa is sharper. I have the SLR Magic 25mm f0,95 lens and it is quite ok, but Laowa is better.
I am a Samyang/ Rokinon manuel lens person I wonder how this lens compares? It would be interesting to see a comparison between the lens brands
Unfortunately I do not have access to the those lenses. I am also sending the Laowa Argus 18mm f0,95 lens back.
Hey Peter, thanks for your review. Does focus peaking work with this lens or are the electronic contacts necessary for that? Not quiet sure how it works.
It works if you assign Peaking to button. It won't work automatically.
@@ForsgardPeter Thanks
I just wish it had autofocus. I don't find that the viewfinders are conducive to quick manual focus like the old focus screens.
Yes, it would be nice, but it would also be more expensive. If you use focus peaking manual focusing is easy as it was with old film cameras.

Manual focus can be a bit tricky sometimes especially with fast lenses.
@@ForsgardPeter well I picked one up used for a decent price. It will come soon in the mail! I'll let you know how it goes.

Great Review as usual! Which of the two lenses has more vignetting, when shooting wide open - the Olympus or the Laowa?
Laowa has more vignetting, but not that much more that it is an issue. Not for me anyways.

Sigma 16 has nice bokeh with AF
OM Solutions should jump on the bandwagon and come out with a few naked lens.
I agree!
If you import from china…to EU i guess there Will be tax on top oh the Price
Yes, but sometimes the manufacturer pays the taxes and shipment. Not sure if Venus lenses does that.
Looks like a cool lens
