I heard her infer that 'economic refugees' and 'climate refugees' are acceptable? If that is the case, I hope she realises that there are millions of people that will be coming.
Genuine refugees who are genuinely seeking refuge are welcome ,but economic migrants need to be deported without fuzzy feelings ,sympathy or excuse. If there is a need to importing labour then do it on a basis of qualification using a work visa scheme.
There would be a lot less people coming if the package offered/ promised wasn’t so generous. No wonder we have so many genuine and also chancers flooding in from even what is deemed as safe countries with no passports in order to delay the process of their claim for asylum. We got way more per head of capita than any other eu country because the Irish were taken for a ride. The processing of applications needs to be speed up. Housing healthcare and education needs so much improvement before taking any more people or everyone including those coming will suffer. Denmark, Spain, Italy are handling the situation so much better for their citizens and those entering. You cannot offer what you don’t have to give. There is no point inviting people here under false pretenses giving them hope of a better life to only find that they have jumped from the frying pan into the fire .. ending up on the streets in tents with no basic human rights met not even a toilet. It’s not the Ireland of a 1000 welcomes we all have in mind when we can’t even offer people basic needs. What is the point in having any members of government travel to Brussels when they seem to have lost any ability to speak up and just say yes to everything without critically thinking about the consequences of their actions or inactions. They don’t run Ireland anymore they are simply middle management with no power or voice following orders blindly. It won’t be change overnight and will be hard even with the right intentions for the next government to change. The Lisbon treaty probably one of the worst mistakes Ireland ever agreed to. We are so small we simply have no voice anymore something a lot of people saw and said no to at the time. What we were told wound happen has. Whatever about people naturally migrating here or seeking asylum, but I cannot fathom why an invite was put up on social media in several languages with generous offers to citizens of countries that didn’t need help…. It has lot to do with where we are right now.
What about penalties for those who didn't stop in the first safe country? And the countries who fly them over here?
Of course Helen has no difficulty paying, is not her money, it's the Irish taxpayers money
