Far and away, the best NFL theme music ever. 2:20 is just awesome---the key change there gave such a dramatic aspect to the game. I will never, EVER forget the final time this theme aired---Super Bowl XXXII. My favorite game ever, probably one of my favorite memories of my younger days. Watching Elway and the Broncos upset Farve and the Packers in the greatest Super Bowl ever at age 8? It's as good as it gets...
One of my favorite NFL themes ever. Brings back so many great childhood memories. Fitting as a huge Michigan Wolverine fan, that the last football season this theme was played was also the same season (albeit college football instead of pro football) that the Michigan Wolverine won the national championship and Charles Woodson won the Heisman trophy.
I wished that nbc kept this theme when it acquired the Sunday night package. Listening to this brought back so many memories. As a child, I would be so pumped up to play football in the backyard after hearing this theme.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about the old NFL on NBC theme & how it should have been brought back when they re-acquired the TV rights to the NFL! A very catchy theme!
I liked how back in the mid-90s during the pre-game show, coming back from a commercial, they always played this while showing a player for one of NBC's games having a pre-game warm-up, with a voice over about his chances for success that day
I like there current one as well for Sunday Nite Football. Especially with John Madden broadcasting the games. Just awesome. NBA and CBS have always had the best theme songs.
This was a pretty good theme song. I didn't remember it well before seeing this because at the time this was used, my father was still an Eagles fan, as the Ravens hadn't come to his native Baltimore yet. So I watched the NFL on FOX more often than the NFL on NBC. But I have some vague memories of this theme song.
Some NFL moments that go well with this music: Pittsburgh over Indy (1995, with the Hail Mary that was almost caught) Brunell outdueling Elway in Denver (1996 playoffs) Elway's airplane flip in the Super Bowl (the last game NBC ever broadcast as the AFC's station)
Argh! Heartbreak! But it's okay---Denver came back the next season and provided me with the greatest sports memories of my life. Anyone else really miss 1990's football...back before the NFL became the ultra-commercialized league that it is today (where business takes precedence over football)? This was back when there was still this glimmer of true passion in the game.
this theme sounds a lot better then the one they currently have on NBC. This one sounds like something they can use during the Olympics. The one they have now is like an orchestra conducted by Mozart!
As a Lions fan, I remember that game. Lions beat Jets 13-10. It was a great memory and fitting as a Lions fan that one of the Lions greats of all time in Barry Sanders broke the 2000 yard mark the last time the Lions played a game televised by NBC with this great theme music. Sadly, Reggie Brown nearly died and his career ended after a serious spinal cord contusion during that game. Thank god they saved his life on the field.
Of course. Also, the following: -Indianapolis shocking Kansas City 10-7 in the AFC Divisional Playoffs in 1995. -Kordell Stewart's incredible run as quarterback of the Steelers in 1997. -Pete Stoyanovich beating Denver at the gun from 54 yards out in arguably the greatest regular season game in NFL history. -Denver gaining its revenge over Kansas City in another instant classic, 14-10 in the AFC Divisional playoffs.
Yes! Great times. Strangely enough, I cheer for the Bills over anyone in the AFC except for the Broncos. I've always had a sort of mutual respect for you guys. Kelly was great!
True 95 & 97...it hurts to see the Chiefs make it in and fall down in the worst time. Now KC's playoff hopes for the next three years will be slim..then we will be back.
NBC could have been the broadcaster of the National Football Conference had Fox not acquired the rights from CBS. So if NBC had the NFC, the commentators would have been: Pat Summerall/John Madden Dick Enberg/Phil Simms Marv Albert/Paul Maguire Kevin Harlan/Matt Millen Greg Gumbel/Phil Simms Mike Emrick/Chris Collinsworth Tom Hammond/Jerry Glanville and Verne Lundquist/Randy Cross Also, had NBC bought the rights of the NFC, the sudio hosts and panelists would have been: James Brown Amad Rashad Joe Gibbs Terry Bradshaw and O.J. Simpson But if NBC had the NFC, the field reporters would have been: Andrea Joyce Hannah Storm Joel Meyers Jim Gray Bonnie Bernstein Michelle Tafoya Pam Oliver and Sam Ryan Therefore, had NBC bought the rights of the NFC, the voice-over announcer for the NFL on NBC would have been Jim Fagan, and the sponsors for the Pre-Game, Halftime, and Post-Game shows would have been sponsored by SunAmerica, The Prudential Financial Group, and McDonald's
Hey TMC, do you have a clip of the 1998 NFL on CBS theme music, and if so, could you post it as soon as possible. It's another great theme along with this NBC music you have here. Thanks
The NFL isn't what it once was. Free agency really took its toll on player/team loyalty and it's harder and harder to find truly classy figures like the Elway's, Marino's, and Young's of those days. But it's alright. I'll always relive this era of football as the apex of the NFL anyway.
Yes, I am really upset about how bad Michigan has been this year, especially after yesterday. Michigan basketball has been bad for 10 straight years. The good old days were when this NFL on NBC them was on and Michigan had their last great season in football the same year. Also, Michigan last made the NCAA tournament in basketball (March 1998) less than 2 months after this NFL on NBC theme was used for a final time during Super Bowl XXXII.
The current NBC theme is atrocious. I think I'm watching a news bulletin from the war in Iraq when watching the game. PLEASE bring this theme back...it was awesome!
HEY- you two! Yes, you, on the East Coast! Relax. Just think of what it is like for us Chargers fans- we have next to NOTHING. Sometimes I wish I was a fan of a great franchise like Pittsburgh or New England, but then I read this bickering (is this some teenager's MySpace?) and I remember "Oh yeah, it's just a GAME!" So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, thanks for putting things into perspective for us here in San Diego, guys.
it was one of the worst days in NFL history when Fox beat out nbc for the rights to nfl. since then we've had to put up with subpar everything for NFC games.. kudos to CBS they are outstanding thankfully, from their theme music, to their announcers. Aikman and Buck are FOX's top team that should tell you everything
NBC's idea for theme music (besides John Williams' leftover, "Phantom Menace" cues) now a days, is trotting out Pink or Faith Hill (like they know anything about football) to sing some corny Hank Williams, Jr. like, "Are You Ready for Some Football" retreat. :{
What can you say of P!nk? She's no worse than Hank Williams Jr, that hillbilly, country shit-kicker. Why ABC couldn't be content with Johnny Pearson's "Heavy Action" as its theme, I'll never know.
Far and away, the best NFL theme music ever.

Beautiful theme. Absolutely beautiful. I remember this playing when my Broncos won Super Bowl XXXII. One of the happiest days of my life.
NBC should still be using this theme for their Notre Dame Football coverage. I feel it would fit like a glove.
I watched Super Bowl XXXII and this music was on it. It was very beautiful.
Wish they still used this theme...brings back memories of my childhood.
Without a doubt, this has to be the best theme that NBC had ever used for its NFL coverage. And even that may be an understatement.
seriously this song gives me shivers, remembering watching my Bills as a kid. thanks for posting :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about the old NFL on NBC theme & how it should have been brought back when they re-acquired the TV rights to the NFL! A very catchy theme!

This song brings back some good memories.
NBC should bring back this song.
the last regular season game this theme was used saw barry sanders break the 2000 yard mark over the jets. great memories and a great theme
Man this brings back so many memories of watchin warren moon as a kid on nbc sunday afternoons
I like there current one as well for Sunday Nite Football. Especially with John Madden broadcasting the games. Just awesome. NBA and CBS have always had the best theme songs.
i agree with you. this theme was so long ago, and i still remember it.
This was a pretty good theme song. I didn't remember it well before seeing this because at the time this was used, my father was still an Eagles fan, as the Ravens hadn't come to his native Baltimore yet. So I watched the NFL on FOX more often than the NFL on NBC. But I have some vague memories of this theme song.
this is an awesome theme song! it sounds like something that can be used in the Olympics, it's great!
Amen man. As they always say "those were the days".
This is the greatest football theme song ever! Reminds me of the great Steelers of the 90"s! NBC should get NFL again!
I watched my Chiefs constantly loose with this theme capping off when I was 5 to 7 years old..every time in the playoffs..
It's so true. The drama, the buildup, the story...never surpassed. Elway's victory is still one of the defining moments of the decade.
I remember hearing this intro music on NFL Gameday '99 and thinking, "This is the greatest game ever made."
They did one of the best intros ever when the Browns were moving out and it was the last game at Municipal Stadium.
It was also on for Super Bowl XXX. I wish NBC also used this one when they got the NFL back.
This theme could have come from virtually any decade, which is a credit to its nature.
Some NFL moments that go well with this music:
Pittsburgh over Indy (1995, with the Hail Mary that was almost caught)
Brunell outdueling Elway in Denver (1996 playoffs)
Elway's airplane flip in the Super Bowl (the last game NBC ever broadcast as the AFC's station)
Fitting that the last time this theme was played was during the best Super Bowl ever played in XXXII.
A great song I love it.
Argh! Heartbreak!
But it's okay---Denver came back the next season and provided me with the greatest sports memories of my life.
Anyone else really miss 1990's football...back before the NFL became the ultra-commercialized league that it is today (where business takes precedence over football)? This was back when there was still this glimmer of true passion in the game.
imo almost every 90s theme song for the 4 major sports were some of the best of all time, nba on nbc, this, nhl on fox/espn, etc. bringem back lol
FIVE major sports. NASCAR's up there too.
this theme sounds a lot better then the one they currently have on NBC. This one sounds like something they can use during the Olympics. The one they have now is like an orchestra conducted by Mozart!

this theme reminds me of snow falling at thanksgiving
this is better than any of the other nfl themes used today, except hank williams jr.
Of course. Also, the following:
-Indianapolis shocking Kansas City 10-7 in the AFC Divisional Playoffs in 1995.
-Kordell Stewart's incredible run as quarterback of the Steelers in 1997.

Me too man, lol. Good times.
my dad and i feel the same way. GO BILLS!!!
I wish NBC would bring this theme back.
yes my point is i wish it was NBC and CBS today.. not CBS and FOX.
they should have used this theme for Super Bowl XLIII when the game aired on NBC
Yes! Great times. Strangely enough, I cheer for the Bills over anyone in the AFC except for the Broncos. I've always had a sort of mutual respect for you guys. Kelly was great!
all of the classic AFC games from the 1990s and almost all of them involved the Steelers
It reminds me of the AFC Title Game, Colts at Steelers.
@08WSChamps You can't forget CBS's NFL and college basketball themes, either.
It was better with CBS and NBC and ABC/MNF not ESPN. Just ABC Sports.
@RongSoulja1992 Maybe because some of us are a little older and appreciate something orchestral and nuanced.
True 95 & 97...it hurts to see the Chiefs make it in and fall down in the worst time. Now KC's playoff hopes for the next three years will be slim..then we will be back.

NBC should use this for the Indy 500.

In some of the promos....it was slower.
Also, I wish this music was on NBC Sunday Night Football. Not the one they have on.
All right, both of you, that's enough. If you guys want to chit-chat on youtube, do it on your inboxes, not on the comment board on this video.
The current NBC theme is atrocious. I think I'm watching a news bulletin from the war in Iraq when watching the game.
PLEASE bring this theme back...it was awesome!

does any1 have the current one?
When this theme debuted in 1995 I thought it sounded too much like Holiday music. I liked the 1993-1994 theme better.
do you have the NBA on NBC full theme?
it was one of the worst days in NFL history when Fox beat out nbc for the rights to nfl. since then we've had to put up with subpar everything for NFC games.. kudos to CBS they are outstanding thankfully, from their theme music, to their announcers. Aikman and Buck are FOX's top team that should tell you everything
This theme is the shit
I think originally Fox beat out CBS for the NFL. Then CBS beat NBC when NBC tried to renew their deal. Could be mistaken though.
No, you're right. FOX replaced CBS in 1994, then CBS replaced NBC in 1998.
NBC's idea for theme music (besides John Williams' leftover, "Phantom Menace" cues) now a days, is trotting out Pink or Faith Hill (like they know anything about football) to sing some corny Hank Williams, Jr. like, "Are You Ready for Some Football" retreat. :{
We agree to disagree. I wasn't bashing John Williams, I just don't think it's a very good theme but that's just my .02
1-4. what else do i need too say ???
Broncos time!
I'll pay that
@armst012
Faith Hill sucks. They should bring this back, and it would also be great if they could put AFC football back on NBC.
reminds me of when the patriots kicked the steelers ass in foxboro 28-3
This one always sounded more like a golf or tennis theme to me...didn't work for NFL IMO.
Amen to that - the current theme for SNF is horrible.
Renenber ay Houston oilers
18-1 bitch and no superbowl. Then the next year The Steelers are world champions. How does that taste?
broncos did win but from that terrible call
What can you say of P!nk? She's no worse than Hank Williams Jr, that hillbilly, country shit-kicker. Why ABC couldn't be content with Johnny Pearson's "Heavy Action" as its theme, I'll never know.
