    You can always add a little two cycle chainsaw oil and mix it with the fuel to help lube the carb and valves on an engine that’s been sitting for a long time.

  • @SpeedandChromeTV
    @SpeedandChromeTV 3 года назад +11

    Surprised you started it with the fuel connected to the tank. Pull the tank, take it to a radiator shop and have it boiled out then reinstall. Clean the lines, and you'll be in good shape. Happy for you guys. Hearing it run is a great motivator. Thats a solid lifter cam, so you may want to take a look at the valve lash, that would help it to run better. Reach out with any question, I just went through all of this with my '58 Ford.

    If you can swing it buy a new gas tank now, It will save you a lot of trouble. You can blow out the fuel line between the tank and pump. The carb will more than likely need rebuilt. Nice solid truck, just needs a little love.

    You may want to consider draining the old gas out of your fuel tank especially if it has been using ethanol. The alcohol in ethanol turns to jelly if it sits very long. I bought a 1972 Chevrolet 3/4 ton from Kansas that had run on ethanol, the engine ran but the carburetor needed a complete overhaul as the accelerator pump was not working, which in turn made driving a bit of misery. When I took the carb apart it was rusted and corroded inside, I finally had to find a good core to rebuild. You probably have room for a good in line fuel filter (the kind you can see through) NAPA has them (I see you are using NAPA battery cables). To make any engine run you need three things: fuel (clean gasoline), compression (valve adjustment and piston rings), and ignition (spark plugs, plug wires, points, condenser, rotor and cap). Each one affects the other, so make sure all three are in good shape. I would use Marvel Mystery Oil in your cylinders instead of WD40 and Marvel Mystery Oil is a very good additive to your crankcase oil and gasoline too, that's why they call it a marvel. It has been used by mechanics for as long as I can remember. As for your brakes, inspect each wheel cylinder on each wheel for leaks. Also, check the master cylinder brake fluid level. If you guys are lucky, maybe a good bleeding and flushing of the brake lines will at least get you enough brakes to stop from hitting your new truck! It has been my experience that you will probably have to do a complete brake job sooner or later once you start driving your pickup. Concentrate on making it mechanically sound before putting chrome wheels on it! Good luck with your project, it's good to see a young couple working together, that's how GOD intended it to be.

    Good to see it runs. A good option is putting a T-5 transmission behind your 215 inline 6. This will give you synchronized gears and a usable gear selection range for modern roads. Not expensive and been done several times. You can also gain free horsepower using headers. This will help the truck breathe better.

    Best thing would be to get rid of all the old gas. You may have to Remove the sender. If it has a sock or (strainer) it will be clogged. Clean inside of tank I would guess it’s not the worst but definitely has some chunks of old gas and dirt/rust. The only way I would do this is by removing the tank. If this doesn’t seem do able in one day consider hooking up another source of fuel seen in other videos or mount a fuel cell in the bed. Don’t forget to install or replace the fuel filter. I know you will do great. How ever you go about it. Joe

    The gauges appeared to be working...if so then it ran out of fuel. I would put a in line fuel filter on it and change it once a year. Another thought once the engine warmed up was the choke still closed? Great project! I enjoy my '50 ford f1.

    At first, congrats! for the truck.. looks very good and is a great project. I have the same truck and finish 2 years ago. Honeslly and because my budget was very reduce, i didnt live in the states and I already got the chance to drive it for years as it original was, i decide 5 years ago to make the chasis swap. I keep my origial chasis, with every on it, in case i decide to get back. Any way, I drive i can drive it every day, with the new engine, disk breaks and C4 transmision. Your look like a 1951, because of the middle vent on the front of the hood. Any way, the "shark face" is the best grill on that first gen of F1. Enjoy the project, me, my wife and now our babygirl enjoy it. I know that car by memory, so any doubt, just message me. Enjoy!
